According to the band's twitter, new album should be out in April and Steven Wilson is doing the 5.1 mixing.  :hat

So the new album will be called "Blackfield IV" and a new song called "Pills" is up on Youtube.

Don't know if I'm allowed to post the link though so you'll have to search for it. Sorry.

Sounds like the perfect time to finally check out this band.

I guess Welcome to My DNA counts as III.  :lol

The new song is pretty good!

I'm looking forward to hearing who the guest vocalists will be. We know that SW is still going be singing on a couple of tracks, and it was announced a while ago that Vincent Cavanagh was going to be on a song.

I wont listen to the new song, want to go into the album and hear everything for the first time. But I just wanna say that I am really excited. I love Blackfield, and I love Aviv (probably a lot more than many others here), and even if SW is not a part of the group anymore, my excitement hasn't decreased. I'm so ready for the new album.

WTF Blackfield IV? Why had Welcome To My DNA proper title then? I don't like the title at all unless they will rename Welcome To My DNA to Blackfield III :lol I know that it isn't very important but I like to have everything organized and Blackfield album titles have become a real mess right now.

SO....where is Blackfield IV?! Rumors pointed to an April release, then later on to May 21st, and now that's come and gone, has anyone heard anything further on the eventual release of this album?! It seems to have gone unnoticed by many.

As far as I know it was pushed back to later this year. I don't really mind, as long as I enjoy the final result.

I saw a while ago in one of those Kscope-"what we have out now/upcoming releases"-things that comes with the CDs, but cool to see it as a big picture. I really like the cover, reminds me of one of the Bass Communion covers.

Cool cover!

Got this from the Burning Shed email newsletter:
Quote
Israel's leading counter-culture rock musician Aviv Geffen returns with Blackfield IV, featuring Steven Wilson and other special collaborators.

The new album includes guest vocal performancess from Brett Anderson (Suede), Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev) and Vincent Cavanagh (Anathema).

Since Welcome To My DNA, Geffen's profile has continued to rise and Aviv has worked with legendary producers Tony Visconti and Trevor Horn, played live with U2 and Placebo, and has been a judge on the Israeli TV show,The Voice.

Aviv contributed the writing and vocals on Blackfield IV, with Steven Wilson - who also mixed the album - adding guitar and vocal parts.

This vinyl edition is pressed on heavyweight (180g) vinyl and is packaged in a gatefold sleeve.

All copies ordered from the Kscope store contain code for the download digital version of the album.

Pre-order now for 26th August release date.
The way this email is worded implies that SW played all the guitars and contributed vocals. If that's the case then his level of involvement won't be much different than it was on DNA.

As much as I enjoy it, no album with Go to Hell could be a masterpiece.

Well when I first heard "Go to Hell", I didn't like it at all. I don't know though, after time, it just kinda started to be good. It's still my least favorite from the album, but I actually like it now. Weird.

Musically, Go to Hell is really good. Lyrically.. eh. I don't hate it like some people though, it's a good song that could have been even better with other lyrics.

When I saw Blackfield, Aviv explained that the lyrics of Go To Hell were his way of venting about his parents, who were largely absent from his life. He said he didn't want to be that kind of parent to his son (or something along those lines), so I guess the song is supposed to be a "fuck you" to all the parents who largely ignore their kids. I do think he could have expressed the same sentiment and emotions with better lyrics but I still enjoy the song.

He did this at my show (NYC), and it took a song that I already struggled with and made it laughable. I mean musically I love it, and the actual vocal melodies are great, but it is impossible to get over how horrible the lyrics are after hearing that story.

That was the show I went to. I though he sounded like a whiny 13 year old, but I wasn't sure if that was the point (i.e. the song was from that point of view). Either way, the lyrics do suck.  :lol

I get the sentiment behind the song, but it's pretty sad that those were the best lyrics he could come up with to express it.  It ruins what is musically a good song.
