I am not surprised to see some of the ones that got here merely by being the best of a weak year of number 1s, not doing well now.

Can't believe that none of the Prince hits made it this far.

Kiss on my List
Billie Jean
Africa
Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Don't You (Forget About Me)
Sledgehammer
Sweet Child O' Mine
We Didn't Start the Fire

Question:  Are the people voting for Another Brick in the Wall voting for it because they really like the song that much, or just because it's Pink Floyd?
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

When Doves Cry did finish with the 3rd most votes for 1984, but it had no chance of getting top two since Yes and VH had their biggest hits ever that year, and this is a forum for a rock band after all. :lol

Question:  Are the people voting for Another Brick in the Wall voting for it because they really like the song that much, or just because it's Pink Floyd?

I was wondering that, too.  I love Pink Floyd, and I like that song a lot, but I didn't even consider voting for it here. I will be disappointed if that ends up winning this.

For me it would be 8th place, so I voted for it because I like it better than 16 other songs from the selection. That it is Pink Floyd is not the reason.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

If it matters, I didn't vote for it, because I don't like the song AND because I don't like PF.

These, plus Billie Jean and Africa.

I also did not vote for PF.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

This surprises me, because I would totally have expected it to make it this far, if not further.

Well, it's just not that good.  Especially compared to all of the great songs released in this decade.  Plus, it is overplayed as hell on the radio.

I don't know, it seems like there were a lot better songs to choose from.  I know it was released as a single (which is why it's here), but it works a shit ton better as part of the full album, and less as a single, compared to all the rest of the great singles we had available to vote for.

Just me, I guess.

Looks like we have a tie for 8th place. :face palm:

Another Brick in the Wall, Part II - Pink Floyd - 20 votes
Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses - 20 votes
Africa - Toto - 18 votes
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen - 16 votes
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson - 16 votes
Jump - Van Halen - 15 votes
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits - 15 votes
Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi - 12 votes
Here I Go Again - Whitesnake - 12 votes

We'll do a 2-day head to head between the bottom two to decide which will advance to the final eight.

I agree with that, but I can't say I am surprised.  This is a forum after all for a prog metal band, so the rock band are going to reign supreme, as shown by the final eight being 7 rock songs (regardless of which one wins the tiebreaker) and probably the most popular song of most of our lifetimes.

This probably also explains why Pink Floyd got the joint-most votes. Prog and all that.
