:tup

A couple things we can extract from that interview:

- They're definitely doing some MM era songs, but...
- They won't represent all their existing albums (at least not all on one show, but they might rotate them?)
- Mike is already practicing some songs from and getting familiarized with the Mangini era albums :metal
- Sadly (IMO), it seems like it's going to be a "here's all the classics" setlist, so I guess (just guessing here) they probably won't be playing any deep cuts at all :tdwn

All of this makes sense, and is extremely reasonable.

I've been seeking out live shows and immersing myself. Last one was Santiage, Chile in 2005. Frickin' fantastic show. I find myself really connecting with anything from WDaDU.

Imagine if MP’s idea of “DT classics” were what he felt were the BEST song(s) from each album; or what he thought the consensus was from the fans perspective. Purely guessing:

The Killing Hand
Metropolis or Learning to Live
Scarred or Voices
Trial of Tears or Lines in the Sand
Home
The Glass Prison? (title track eliminated due to length)
In the Name of God or Endless Sacrifice (please no AiA)
Octavarium
Constant Motion (maybe not favorite but most likely to be played)
no idea
Breaking all Illusions
The Enemy Inside or Surrender to Reason
A New Beginning?
no idea - maybe Fall Into the Light?
no idea
Stuff from the new album

Then the question remains how much stuff like PMU, TSCO, etc gets added in.

I’m really hoping for no career timeline theme or songs played chronologically or any gimmicks like that. Just mix them all up into a giant setlist.

Agreed.

And with regards to the deep cuts chatter, pretty much everything in their history is a deep cut except for Pull Me Under.

I just hope they don't feel the need to play some of the bland singles (A Rite of Passage, Forsaken, On the Backs of Angels) just for the sake of trying to appeal to casual fans.  DT is not and has never been a singles band, so might as well play the good stuff rather than trotting out of a bunch of promotional "singles" that went nowhere on the charts anyway.

I agree with this for the most part. I doubt we’ll see a song from WDADU. I’m probably wrong though. I also doubt we’ll see more than maybe two songs from the Mangini albums. And I&W and SFAM will probably get at least two songs each.

I feel like it would be impossible to be a "casual" DT fan that only knows their singles, it would be too hard to not get exposure to their other work and either get turned off or dig deeper depending on your taste.

Does that even exist?

I don't even think so, not that I've ever heard of
