I remember sort of thinking that early on.  But then once I found out the Beastie Boys had more rhymes than Abe Vigoda, it kinda knocked him off his pedestal as far as I was concerned.

The longstanding Ave Vigoda status page is down, presumably from all the people just wanting to see the status change from alive to dead.

I always figured the cause of his notoriety for being alive was hat the guy looked 100 when he was 50. But the cool thing was that he had a pretty good sense of humor about it. We associate him with Fish and Sal Tessio, neither of which had much of a sense of humor. Abe always looked happy as could be out in the real world, and certainly seemed amused enough by the occasional rumors of his death.

I just remembered how much love he would get at those Comedy Central roasts, especially from roasting genius Jeffrey Ross. After 9/11 Ross mentioned how everyone was feeling more patriotic and armed services enlistments were up, and that even Abe tried to enlist at Old Navy.  :lol
