I think this is one of the best songs by DT in the last 10 years and is at least a top 20 for me.  Has a kind of sad ethereal sound, a nice vocal, thoughtful lyrics, and is not over composed.  I don't see this song on a lot of people's lists or maybe haven't noticed it much.  Almost reminds me of the SDV of the Jordan era.  Who here has love for this song?

Vajra

Indeed, I love this song as well. I have to be in a certain mood to really enjoy it though.

Not a HUGE fan of the alien riff, but everything else is wonderful.

I'm not sure if it's a song that anyone has on their black list but I do believe that it's truly underrated. It's a beautiful song. I just think people look past it because of the length in association with the other songs on the album.

I love it, one of Dream Theater's best soft songs. I thought the "alien riff" was weird at first, but now I realize that if something terrible ever happened to me and I suddenly could relate to that song, that riff thing would destroy my soul and tear me apart into pieces.

Never go to a mall with JLB, he'll think of lyrics like this song that want to put one to tears.

That aside, it's a really great song that kind of has that Beatles vibe to it

Great song, but I have no idea why you titled your thread the way you did.

I love Disappear. It took me a while to get into it, and was the last song on SDOIT that I got into, probably because it starts off slow. But it's a beautiful song that has a lot of atmosphere, some of JLB's most emotional vocals, and nothing is overdone. It creates a unique sound that is unlike any other DT song. :tup

Wonderful song. I like the way they use 5/4 in a ballad. Quite unusual, but it works very well...

This. Also love JR's work on it, though I know others don't.

I LOVE this song. In one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and is my favourite non-epic DT song.

And, of course, Disappear >> Space-Dye Vest.

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Only because I perceive it to be buried behind 4 powerhouse songs on Disc 1 and sometimes I almost forget it's there.

DetonationSequence

My favourite non-epic DT tune also. One of the elite handful of DT songs that can really wring tears from me. It has possibly my favourite vocal and lyrical work in DT's history, the keyboard work is hauntingly beautiful and the structure is just perfect. Definitely their saddest song, but in such a wonderful way.

It's so amazing I made my first post about it!

Hey, welcome to DTF!

The last line "Come let him take you home" has me everytime I hear it. I'm on the verge of tears thinking about it. :'(

The only song in the world that has ever almost made me cry.

Do you, like, not listen to much?

Ultimetalhead obviously never heard of the song "Friday" by Rebecca Black. Makes me cry every time.

"oh, you SO have to listen lots of sad music outside the world of Dream Theater!"

I "do listen to much", and I feel the same way. Disappear's the only song that made me cry a little, Octavarium made me kinda misty the first few times I listened to it though. Other than those two, never happened to me.

By the way (sorry about the double post) - they NEED to play it live. I don't know what MP was thinking, only playing it twice and then banning it from live shows, but I'm glad he left the band just because now I have some hope that this song will be played again.

Did he actually ban it?  I thought it was James' decision.
