DREAM THEATER
--GRAMMY-NOMINATED PROGRESSIVE METAL TITANS--
INVITE THE ESTEEMED BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC
TO JOIN THEM FOR A ONE-OF-A-KIND SHOW
AT THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2014
THIS EVENT WILL BE RECORDED FOR RELEASE AND IS PART OF THE BAND’S “ALONG FOR THE RIDE” NORTH AMERICAN TOUR LAUNCHING MARCH 20 IN SUPPORT OF THEIR NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM
TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE HERE: https://HTTP://TINYURL.COM/N2FWVDX
THE BAND RECENTLY EARNED THEIR SECOND GRAMMY NOMINATION
FOR “BEST METAL PERFORMANCE” FOR THEIR SINGLE “THE ENEMY INSIDE”
DREAM THEATER--Grammy-nominated progressive metal titans--have invited the esteemed Berklee College of Music to join them for a one-of-a-kind show on the band’s upcoming “Along For The Ride” North American tour, when they visit the Boston Opera House on Tuesday, March 25. Tickets for this event start at $35 and are available here: https://tinyurl.com/n2fwvdx.
DREAM THEATER was founded in 1985 when founding members--guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and former drummer Mike Portnoy--attended the Berklee College of Music.
Also adding to the significance of this collaboration: Mike Mangini (drums), who joined the band in 2010, is a former faculty member of the Berklee College of Music.
This special homecoming will be captured and recorded for a later release. DREAM THEATER will be joined by special guest ensembles the Berklee World Strings and the Berklee Concert Choir for the second half of the set. The ensembles will layer distinct dramatic elements to DREAM THEATER's production. The World Strings are an international group of creative improvisers who play with rhythmic qualities seldom heard from string instruments. The Concert Choir stretches its repertoire from traditional and contemporary music through a wide range of genres.
DREAM THEATER recently earned a second Grammy nomination for “Best Metal Performance” for the single “The Enemy Inside” from their current self-titled worldwide smash album (released September 24, 2013 on Roadrunner Records).
“DREAM THEATER” made a spectacular debut this past fall, topping Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” chart while simultaneously entering at #7 on the overall Billboard 200. The extraordinary chart position marked the group’s third consecutive top 10 debut, and also saw "DREAM THEATER" making top 5 chart debuts in Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, and Finland, as well as top 10 debuts in Denmark, Austria, and Norway, with career high debuts in the United Kingdom and Australia.
The band recently announced new tour dates for their North American headlining run which will pick up on March 20th in Toronto, ON following the band’s European tour.

Directly (well, not really directly, but assuming the journalist's pen is as neutral and true as it should be, we might as well say directly!) off the lips of JP, we know that something cool is being organized for the upcoming March gig in Boston.
So, ideas, wishes? Will there be guests? Especially special songs? Anniversary occasions for the day? Meteorite showers? All or none of the above? Kevin Moore?
Let's talk about this! :yarr
For myself, I'm rather curious to see what they have in mind to top Luna Park, assuming this is indeed the show that will be taped, which isn't at all a certainty. Obviously they can't use again the string quarted, or at least not only that. So, I'm pleasantly intrigued! :)
-
Mike Mangini on all lead vocals, please.
-
Hopefully we find out soon. Obviously I'm intrigued!
A live taping would be great. The shift to The Opera House from the Orpheum was interesting.
-
Awake in its entirety?
Also: Good I bought my ticket!
-
When Mike and Mike ReUnite! ;D
-
Awake in its entirety!
Just a guess?
-
Relevant question: how's the acustic at the Orpheum? I recall that Boston bootlegs have become way better sounding in later times, I hope that wasn't due to the band choosing other, better sounding venues rather than the tapers becoming increasingly skilled.
-
Imagine there is an actual real-life equivalent to "shitting bricks", only that while doing so you decide to shit a building. Problem is, your innards are molding from a diet of Guinness and Indian food.
The resulting building is the Orpheum.
-
I know Rumbo hates the Orpheum. The Opera house is fantastic. I've seen a few plays there with the wife and it was awesome sounding. Interesting to see how it translates to a rock concert.
How about them playing all of the first Boston album?
HA! Ninja'd!!! :lol
-
Looking at the article, there's no confirmation on whether the "cool thing" is taking place on the March 25 gig or not.
Hopefully it'll be something more interesting than playing a couple songs with a guy on strings, which happened during the first ADTOE tour. Talk about underwhelming. :lol
-
Season premiere/return of MTV Unplugged :)
-
In all fairness, that thing wasn't hyped all that much, and by the way, Eugene Friesen is not just one guy on a cello for DT fans, you know :D
I think Boston 2011 was meant to be a regular show with a little extra.
-

I think Boston 2011 was meant to be a regular show with a little extra.
Well, that's what it felt like at the show. :lol
But yeah, it wasn't hyped much, they just announced that there would be a special guest the morning before. This sounds like it'll be a bit more interesting.
-
Well I saw some drummer jump on stage to do a dual drum solo in 2002. It was foreshadowing.
-
I think what we can get could be a DVD recording, a live album or a bootleg and perhaps one of those goes attached with an anniversary performance for either/both Scenes From a Memory or/and Awake.
I don't think it will be the DVD recording for this tour cycle because JP himself stated there will be one, but they don't know where yet, and the only thing we know about this "cool event" is the "where". Not even the date. I'm really curious about what it'll be, though. I could place my bet on anniversary bootlegs of one or both albums I mentioned.
-
Here's an idea :
Don't film at Luna Park again. Or with Over The Edge.
-
WDADU turns 25 March 6, 1989.
Awake turns 20 October 4th.
SFAM turns 15 October 26th.
If the Boston show is the 25th and they wanted it to celebrate an album, my money's on WDADU 25th anniversary, and maybe filmed to show Mangini on the whole thing (maybe with special guests Portnoy and/or Dominici?).
Or maybe they'll only play their epics for one show. IT, SDOIT, Octavarium, ACOS, TCOT, ITPOE. That's over 150 minutes. That'd be cool ;)
-
Since Berklee is in Boston, maybe they will bring Eren and a string quartet to play the string section of IT, rather than doing whatever they have planned for the rest of the tour.
-
An Epic Evening With Dream Theater !

I have a feeling that you are right

Awake in its entirety?
20 yr anniv! That's my guess! Wish I could be there!
-
Saw them on the Awake tour at Berkley.

And I hope you're right!
-
Saw them on the Awake tour at Berkley.
Really? That's odd. I would have thought they'd be much more likely to play Berklee.
-
I can't imagine that this will be anything other than some special guests making an appearance. Maybe they'll play something special for the occasion, but I have my doubts.
-
How about them playing all of the first Boston album?
HA! Ninja'd!!! :lol
Oooohhhh .... I like this!! :metal
-
I'm kinda hoping they don't play an old album in its entirety, unless they expand the set time. I'd rather see them play a full, diverse setlist.
-
I can't imagine that this will be anything other than some special guests making an appearance. Maybe they'll play something special for the occasion, but I have my doubts.
Just an addition to fan-dreams, but wouldn't it be neat if they played Awake in the second set, end it at the end of "Scarred", then bring out Kevin Moore to play "Space-Dye Vest" and then bring out Derek Sherinian to play "A Change of Seasons" for the encore?! Sure, that'd be a 30 minute encore, but who cares! It'd be something special, alright, and it would be a night to remember.
It would still give them about 70-80 minutes to play with in the first set, which is more than enough time to play new music and some other songs.

I got a good feeling about this one as well!
-
Yes! DVD of the new tour.
-
I would guess the Awake album in full, though that would make one wonder about SDV and if that were the deal how could they not document that with a DVD release? The other guess is what someone said about Eren playing strings with other musicians on random songs.
Here's an idea :
Don't film at Luna Park again. Or with Over The Edge.
Thanks for the facts!
-
They better not hint or tease with any images about what the event will be, or we'll have it figured in less than a day :lol

I sure hope so. I mean, if they're going to do a big event and film it, I would hope they would announce it. I would gladly travel anywhere in North America to see it.

Fixed that for blob, sorry, couldn't resist :lol
-
I hope it's not just an orchestra for IT. Call me jaded, but I already saw DT with an orchestra at RCMH.
-
That would be a huge waste of the "special occasion" type of event.
-
I hope it's not just an orchestra for IT. Call me jaded, but I already saw DT with an orchestra at RCMH.
Isn't it obvious that this is exactly what it is? I mean, DT is playing at a legit opera house after all. Oh, and you're jaded. Decided not to go to Score show, so this works out great for me.
(But I get it, if Charlie played multiple venues in 2004, then the reunion show in Los Angeles would have lost some of its specialness for me).
-
Saw them on the Awake tour at BERKLEE
I was there too. My first DT show.
-

-
They'll play awake in it's entirety with Extreme as support. Mike will play a couple of songs with his old cohorts for old times sake.
Since they have an orchestra there for IT, Extreme will play Rise n Shine from their 3 sides album and JP will join Nuno on that track as 2nd lead guitar
Sorry...........what were we talking about? I just Mangini'd all over my keyboard.
-
^^^^^^ BAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAA ^^^^^^^^^
-
:rollin
On a serious note, I'm not buying into the idea that they will bring out the string quartet for IT in Boston. That's like, 3 minutes of music in the midst of a 20 minute epic. Just seems a little impractical.

In the case of both Score and LALP, the orchestra/string section were utilized on at least a few songs, so if it's the case here, I'd expect they'll incorporate it into a few songs.
-
Such as Rise n Shine by Extreme.
-
Second set with orch. including Space Dye Vest and maybe a couple/few guests including Kevin Moore.
Remember the press release said they will play a couple songs never played before. That leaves VERY FEW options, one of which
is SDV.

The other four songs being "The Best Of Times", "The Shattered Fortress", "Raw Dog" and "Don't Look Past Me". Otherwise, every other song the band has ever written/recorded in the studio has been played live at some point. Well, if you don't count the original version of "You Not Me" as "You Or Me", which was never played live technically, but the album version has.
-Marc.
-
Petrucci has said "Along for the Ride" was inspired by the Boston Marathon attacks, so maybe the band is planning a special tribute or fundraiser for Boston.

I recall reading that MP had planned to include You or Me in the next tour, so it's quite possible that this could be one of the tracks. It is also possible (tho unlikely) that maybe they'll dig up another Majesty-era track. And I can imagine that there might be a track or two that the guys had forgotten that they had played at some point in the past, thinking that they never played it (if Neil Peart can forget that Rush played Camera Eye before the 2010-2011 tour, so can the guys in DT).

It's been 10 years since they played ACOS, maybe they forgot they played it. ;D

A Vision, one verse, one chorus, and then an extended guitar solo, instead of the rubato solo they played the last tour.
And I guess by saying they'll play some stuff they've never done, they were exaccerating. I guess they meant 'things we haven't played in a while'. Which would mean ACOS. :D

If that happened, and I were Mangini, I might walk out (of the band). Sheesh. What could be more insulting then for DT to go into Mangini's hometown and play over an hour of music with the former drummer on stage instead of him?
-

I was thinking the same thing.
-
Maybe covering a certain Queen album and titling a new Ytsejam release A Night At The Opera House!
-
Maybe they get Boston (the band) on stage and play "Foreplay/Long Time"!
-
I've actually always thought hat covering the first Boston album would be a great choice for them.
-
I recall reading that MP had planned to include You or Me in the next tour
I asked MP about this at a meet and greet on the BC&SL tour and he just gave me an exhausted stare. So maybe the other guys refused to play it and he couldn't fight for it anymore, or maybe he simply wished he never printed that in the liner notes. I dunno, but he didn't want to talk about it that night.
-
Maybe they get Boston (the band) on stage and play "Foreplay/Long Time"!
On one tour (I think Train of Thought, since that's when they did all the one-off covers), I recall MP telling me about the possibility that they might do a Boston cover in the city of Boston, and so he wanted me to DT-ize the first Boston album cover. But before I could find a suitable copy of the album on vinyl to scan in, he e-mailed me again and told me they scrapped the idea. I can't remember if he gave me a specific reason why but my gut feeling was that one of the other band members vetoed the idea (as opposed to it being a lack of time to rehearse).
-
Well, maybe someone didn't feel like covering two different songs in two consecutive shows, as thet evetually covered Echoes the following day. Or maybe there wasn't really enough time to reharse both songs.
-

To be honest, in their current, rather metal, mode I'm not sure they would do a good Boston cover.
Besides, Extreme got that honor a few years back anyway. They had the band come onstage and play some Boston tunes. Then again, there was of course the connection that both bands were proper Boston bands. I doubt DT could get Boston to join one of their gigs.
-
It sounds like the cool event is something in addition to and not relating to the scheduled show. I'd bet that it's a Q&A or acoustic set open to the public.

Just hope they don't wait another year just to release it!

Anyone else hoping they open the second set with BITS with the choir singing? Also, does this mean we'llbget TSCO with a choir...again?
Looking forward to seeing this setlist and what they play with them!

I'm not expecting BITS to appear again of the ADTOE material, although it seems like TSCO is a mainstay, so that would be a plausible one.
So it looks like we'll have a live version of IT with a live orchestra, which will be the ultimate live document of that song, just as Score was for Octavarium. :tup

I wouldn't quite expect it either, but it was the first song that came to mind (other than TSCO) that would utilize a choir.
I guess I'm not well enough into DT-mode (listening, that is) to figure out many other songs, at least enough to fill a second set, that would utilize a choir well, unless they're adapting keyboard parts to the choir, or writing new parts to accompany the band.
The question is, will they play mostly new material in the 2nd set with the choir, or will it be a sort of half-and-half new and old?

:D I guess a 5 hour drive isn't so bad compared to flying across the Atlantic.

Anyone else hoping they open the second set with BITS with the choir singing?
-M.
I would hope so. Surely, there must be some talented throat singers at Berklee. ;)

I wonder if the setlist for this show will be radically different to that of the rest of the tour? Might have to edit my predictions...
-

I wouldn't expect radically different given that it may be material that this lineup hasn't played before, and will be more work. I would possibly expect a couple of special songs that utilize the additional musicians, but maybe not.
-
DREAM THEATER will be joined by special guest ensembles the Berklee World Strings and the Berklee Concert Choir for the second half of the set. The ensembles will layer distinct dramatic elements to DREAM THEATER's production.
Fuck yes.
Oooooooo. I like the idea of a choir harmonizing pretty timely with JLB. These ideas intrigue my interest.
-
I'm assuming this will be the DVD for this tour? It's not made clear whether it'll be just audio or not in the press release.

Given that their last couple of label releases haven't included separate CD editions, I think this would either have to be an official bootleg, or a DVD/BD. Either of those scenarios would be positive to me, although given the additional effort of a string section and choir, it would make much more sense to me if it was a big scale production video release rather than merely an audio release.

Plus they have the whole gap between the end of the Euro tour, and the Toronto show on the 20th. I'm sure they could hammer a few rehearsals there, head on up to Canada for the three shows, then pack in a couple more final rehearsals.

Good point. They'll have nearly 18 days between shows, although I'm sure a good chunk of that time will be them moving their equipment over seas, so I'm not sure if they'd take the time to move all of their stuff from Europe to Boston, then to Canada, then back to Boston only 2 days later.
But ya never know... if they didn't have the Canadian shows and went straight to Boston after the European tour, they could do it that way. However, I could see them using those two Canadian shows as warm-ups to the songs they will be performing at Boston, just to get the band tight before they meet up with the Berklee ensembles, but in the same way that the couple shows before SCORE/RCMH had the band running through some of the songs that were played at RCMH.
So I think the Canadian shows could be a good indicator of what they'll play at Boston.
-Marc.

If we get a recorded live version of Space-Dye Vest with strings... :o

I've been waiting to hear that song live for a looooong time. Guest narration by Robert DeNiro?

I am soooooo glad I've got my tickets! WOOT!!

I reckon The Mirror/Lie should work quite well with an orchestra. TMoLS as well (although personally I hope not)?

This sounds much cooler than anything previously suggested by anyone in this thread.

Finally they announced it !! I think you all will be happy with what's gonna happen :)

I am soooooo glad I've got my tickets! WOOT!!
Same here - as if by chance my first show in over a decade will have some nice bonus treats! First row balcony - can't wait for the 25th!!
-
I am certain that Illumination Theory would get played with the orchestra. And I can already imagine how epic that would be!
-
What kind of intrigues me is what songs could they play with the Berklee Concert Choir...I understand the Berklee string section but...a choir?
What songs can be arranged with a choir in mind? Any suggestions?
-
Just to be nitpicky and so everyone is clear - they are NOT performing with an ORCHESTRA - this is the Berklee World Strings Ensemble, which consists ONLY of STRING instruments (violin, viola, cello, string bass, and mandolin).
You can check them out here - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Berklee-World-Strings/118261374857326
And because of this, I feel it will have a different sound than the RCMH/SCORE show as there will be NO brass, winds or extra percussion involved, just strings and the choir.
Does this make a difference? Heck YEAH it does - without the brass/winds/percussion, the string ensemble can be utilized in songs that really focus on string sounds/patches or the use of real strings. I wonder if songs like "Vacant" or "Disappear" will make an appearance because of this? Especially considering that Eugene Friesen, the conductor of the ensemble, was the cellist for "Vacant" on Train Of Thought.
Either way, I think making the distinction makes a world of difference in terms of deducing which songs can and can't be performed by this set up.

The first song that came to my mind was ITNOG - the choir could sing the part at 12:58.
-
Anyone else thinking this will just be a bootleg? Seems to be quite early in the tour to be putting out an official DVD/BR.
Speaking of which when ARE the live releases normally recorded? I know Luna Park and Score were towards the end but what about LAB and Live Metropolis?

I think Nightmare would work really well. A real choir would really complement that big, epic opening and would definitely suit the vibe they were going for on the record.
Then again, there's the "day after day" section. Now, I wonder how a choir arrangement of that would sound.
-

Exactly what I was thinking when I read that a choir would be involved, given the choir patches Jordan uses in that song.

Even tough DT added more dates today, they are still keeping a few days off before the Boston show, perhaps to rehearse with the Berklee ensemble, and, hopefully, to shake the dust off of some song that have not been played in a while, such as: Vacant and Disappear.
-
My fingers are definitely crossed for Disappear.

Hopefully they will choose another filming company, because Live At Luna Park was kinda disappointing.
-
Wow! Too bad I won't be at that show. Does it mean that because it's being filmed, we won't be allowed to share fan videos of that specific concert?
Anyhow, even more excited for the Toronto show now than ever, and it will only keep escalating exponentially. :caffeine:
-
Just got tickets. I don't think I've been so excited for something as much as this for a long time. This will be so cool. I feel like it doesn't even matter what songs they play, as long as they're wisely chosen, since anything will automatically be amazing with the addition of strings and choir.

Who the heck is Eren?
A Turkish keyboardist, arranger and conductor who has worked for both Jordan Rudess in Explorations for Keyboard and Orchestra and for Dream Theater on DT12. And a member of the forum, as you can see.
-
Hey, thanks!
-
What if they get a lot of songs with some cool backing vocals, for the choir?
Take The Time? Lines in the Sand? A large bunch of SFAM?
What about songs that could have choir sections added, to spice up choruses and the like? I think that Wither would work really well with an orchestra and a choir behind it.
-
Yeah, like the choir on Spirit Carries On. I can see this being a one-off for the Boston gig only, as I don't see the band bringing this back for the whole tour.
Maybe it will OTE enough time to complete the show before the next album comes out. :P
You going to the Boston show?

He's the conductor of the Berklee World Strings (and he wrote that piece) and is going to be conducting them for the Boston show (I'm pretty sure). DT seems very connected with him, probably because of Berklee.

So where's the "DT Live At Boston DVD/BD to be released soon" thread?
:soon:

Here's an idea :
Don't film at Luna Park again. Or with Over The Edge.
i agree with you :tup
btw I'm sure that it's gonna be the best DT DVD. Live at Boston Opera House already sounds amazing ;D
-
Imagine the pre-chorus of Panic Attack sung by a full choir.
Also, the final "whoa-ohs" of TCOT, and the string section really intensifying that part as well
-
Is it going to be an orchestral thing? If that's the case, it'll be the third out of four releases in a row where an orchestra is present. Isn't it starting to turn into an old trick for you guys?
-

I don't recall any orchestra on Live at Budokan, or on Chaos in Motion, or on Luna Park.
Score had it, yes, and that was one time, 8 years ago. Most of us would love to see it again, since it was so awesome the last time.
-
Luna Park has it!
-
Luna Park has a 4 piece String Ensemble. Boston will have something more than that, but certainly not an orchestra.
-
Yeah Luna Park just had a quartet, so this will definitely be more than that.
-
I liked the idea on Score, but mostly I prefer the 5 guys kicking ass on stage. But whatever, everyone is really excited about it, as is the band, so I don't want to come across as a Never Enough type of fan .
-
Luna Park has a 4 piece String Ensemble. Boston will have something more than that, but certainly not an orchestra.
This. I cannot stress this enough, and I hate to be one of "those guys" who has to constantly correct people when they say the Boston show will feature and orchestra, but as a sign of respect to the ensemble and to people in the (classical) music community as a whole, it would be wrong to say the Boston performance will have an orchestra - it will have a Concert Choir and a String Ensemble. Orchestras typically have strings with brass, winds, and percussion, whereas a String Ensemble is just that - an ensemble of strings, usually made up of violins, violas, cellos, basses, and sometimes harps and mandolins (among other instruments).
Beyond the show at RCMH, for the SCORE release, DT have featured string performers before, as noted above at the Luna Park shows, for a grand total of FOUR (and short) songs, over the course of two nights. The conductor of the Berklee Strings Ensemble was also the cellist on Train Of Thought and also played a show with DT where he performed "Vacant", "Stream Of Consciousness" and "Disappear" (one of TWO times the song has been played live - the other being at the Budokan).
The Boston show also marks the 2nd time a choir has joined the band on stage, the first being the New York show documented for Live Scenes From New York, where a gospel choir joined DT and Theresa Thomason (not Thompson, mind you) for a performance of "The Spirit Carries On". A gospel choir, and Thomason, were featured on the album Scenes From A Memory as well.
At any rate, this show is still unique among others that have featured guests in the past, and unlike some of those other shows, this is for the whole 2nd half of the show (similar to, but not exactly like the RCMH show). It's still unknown as to what capacity each ensemble will be used, whether both together or separate for each song performed, but it can be assumed that, being a one-off performance, they will utilize both ensembles to their fullest effects.
-Marc.
-

Yes. YES YES YES!
-
I hope if this gets an official release, the mix of the string ensamble and choir is clearly present. The thing about Score is the orchestra didn't play as big of a part in the songs as I was hoping and I think its because they were buried in the mix since in the video you can clearly see they are playing.
-

In my experience in high school:
Orchestra = Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, piano)
Band = Brass, Woodwind, Percussion
Full Orchestra = combination of the two.
Wikipedia disagrees with me, but I'm pretty sure this is what's confusing you.

Confusing me or TAC? Being a music major with a music degree, I've had plenty of years of experience with dozens of ensembles and I would hope that all those years of schooling and my degree weren't for nothing :rollin
I see your point about wikipedia, but even dictionary.reference.com says that an orchestra is "a group of performers on various musical instruments, including especially stringed instruments of the viol class, clarinets and flutes, cornets and trombones, drums, and cymbals, for playing music, as symphonies, operas, popular music, or other compositions."
I think it's widely known that orchestras include more than just string instruments. In my area, the high schools has an "orchestra" that was mostly strings, but this was because they needed an outlet for string plays that didn't have an orchestra at school, so the county's string students played together in an ensemble labeled as an "orchestra". However, at the collegiate level and up, orchestras generally include more than JUST strings. Why else would they make the distinction between a "String Ensemble" and an "Orchestra" if there was no difference to begin with? I would hope that the Berklee School of Music would know how to properly label its ensembles :lol
Now, granted, there ARE things called String Orchestras, which include the primary string instruments as well as piano and sometimes harp and other percussion, but the ensemble here in question is strictly strings. From the Berklee World Strings facebook page:

Either way, we're veering a bit off-topic, but I hope this information is enlightening to people who were previously unaware what the differences were, and aren't going to go to the Boston show with false expectations on what kind of instrumentalists they will see backing the band in the second half of the concert.
-Marc.

So just to make sure, for this show, there's going to be strings ensembles. Something similar to Rush's Clockwork Angels Strings Ensembles where there were like 7 or 8 people playing cellos and violins, right? It's going to be something like that?

Well, there will be 24 performers in the Berklee World Strings, as listed above, playing various string instruments. There will also be the Berklee Concert Choir.

I have a feeling that TCOT and IT would bookend the second set, much like SDOIT and Octavarium did for Score. After all, we never got a proshot video for TCOT!
Oh, and if they play TTTSTA/WIMH YET AGAIN for this live release, it's going to be a true  moment...

Yup. Say what ya like about MP but that wouldn't have happened on his watch.
What constitutes a Mahavishnu Orchestra?

I think that high school is confusing YOU. At my daughter's high school, "band" involves horns, woodwinds, and percussion. But in the real world, "band" involves guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocalists.
-
I learned that Orchestra=each group of instruments (strings, brass, percussion, woodwinds, etc..)
I didn't realize that
Orchestra = Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, piano)
Confusing TAC?
That can be easily done! :lol

Oh, and if they play TTTSTA/WIMH YET AGAIN for this live release, it's going to be a true  moment...
I definitely agree, but don't worry, they will notice the overabundance of it in the past and will take action :lol
-
I don't think anyone has to worry about seeing War/Test on this tour.
-
I am always in for new live releases. But for some reason, I don't really like Luna Park as a whole. The sound is kind of messy to to me and during the ballads there are these god awful breathing sounds. I don't know, the whole package seems a bit lacking to me and it is not due to the bands' performance. I am eager to try out that 360 app, so maybe that will make me love the concert a bit more. Labrie was on fire though, and I hope he will sound as good again during this tour.
And yes, I hope they scratch War/test.
-
Oh, and if they play TTTSTA/WIMH YET AGAIN for this live release, it's going to be a true  moment...
Same goes for TSCO IMO.
I really like this, should make a great live release. Now I hope that they make something that sounds better than LALP. Only CIM sounds worse than LALP regarding the live releases.
-
With a choir there, I'd actually be shocked if TSCO was not played.
Don't really care one way or the other.
-

Don't really care one way or the other.
Actually, if they HAVE to include TSCO again, PLEASE use it in the encore coupled with "Finally Free" (which desperately needs to make a come back, and it would be AWESOME if Mangini soloing over the outro vamp). I'd be okay with TSCO if it came with FF in the encore, meaning IT would close the 2nd set. We've gotten TSCO on every other live release since LSFNY (skipped LAB, on SCORE, skipped CIM, on LALP), so could use a break this tour.
HOWEVER, if the Boston show isn't the ONLY show filmed/recorded on this tour, and is to be relegated to a YtseJamRecords (or similar) release, then I'd be more okay with its inclusion in that show.

Well, there's also the term "big band"

Can the string section pleaaaase break into full Tchaikovsky?

Mila Jovovich. That's what I would like to fully break into.

AFAIK, that's more a term for a style of music than necessarily an assemblage of instruments.
