Sorry if this has been talked about already, but does anybody know if Vol 2 and Vol 3 of the vinyl box set are coming this year, and if we´re getting individual LPs like the group from Images to Scenes? I´m really hoping for affordable 6DOIT and TOT vinyl releases.

And what are the odds 6DOIT might be a 3 LP release if the time comes?

voncorn

No updates on Vol 2 and 3 yet as of now.

SDoIT will likely be a 2LP just like the first pressing from 2013. The Vol 1 set and their individual titles from earlier this year all used the same stampers from the Music on Vinyl pressings from roughly a decade ago.

I have heard SDoIT on vinyl but never owned one myself, though of course I will be grabbing the new pressing when it's out. Prepare to be blown away by it. There is substantially less compression used on the vinyl master compared to the CD/digital and you'll be amazed when you hear the newfound clarity and detail, especially in Jordan's parts.

i think they'll do all their albums, because it's basically printing money. Only thing holding them back is the waitingtimes for vinylpressings

Here's my obligatory "can't believe they do this but completely ignore the LNFA releases" post.

Well, they will sell tons more of these than they would the LNFA releases.

Besides, they have released at least some of those on vinyl, because I have one of them.

I didn't mean vinyl, but rather them completely ignoring the LNFA since 2023. I'm just yelling at the clouds, really :lol

I will be waiting for the individual titles to be released, hopefully those will also be on clear vinyl.

SDoIT and ToT will be no-brainer pick-ups for me, as the Music on Vinyl stampers will likely be re-used for those two, and those have been fantastic and well-received by the audiophile community.

However, I am concerned that Octavarium will probably not be a newly prepared vinyl master and will be sourced from the same stamper as the 2013 pressing done by Atlantic. Music on Vinyl were not involved in that first pressing of Octavarium for whatever reason, and even a quick look at the Amazon and Discogs reviews for the first pressing of Octavarium makes it very apparent that Atlantic did a poor job handling the master for it, many complaints of it having an inferior, crunchy, and flat sound. I'm not in the vinyl collecting game for the simple novelty of throwing expensive discs on a turntable, I want to listen to the best sounding and most dynamic versions of my favorite albums possible. I can't confirm that this won't be the case this time around, but I'm not optimistic based on the fact that none of the albums in first Volume set were newly prepared vinyl masters.

And with Systematic Chaos, the original 2007 US pressing by Roadrunner was notorious for the error of having "The Ministry of Lost Souls" TWICE on the second disc, omitting part 2 of ItPoE entirely. It affected all US copies and the only way to hear the proper full album on vinyl was through importing the German pressing. I happily traded in my original US copy to a shop many moons ago for the cost of a decent lunch. I'm hopeful that the error won't be repeated for this set, but I would get a good laugh if this was overlooked AGAIN.

I don't think scarcity will be an issue with the individual releases on this round, but I'm glad I pulled the trigger on the box set, anyway. Images and Words was a real pain to track down at the beginning of the year.

Holy shit! I had no idea how many of the copies had the double TMOLS! I'm glad it wasn't just mine. No wonder Roadrunner never responded to my customer service email back in 2008 or whatever.

Still, I may not pick up this new version of SC, even though I will grab the other three from this set. It's not that I don't think they will fix that glaring error, it's just that it's not a high priority for me right now. I'd rather get the rest of the pressings I've never owned.

Nice! I´m gonna wait for the single releases though. I´m really on it because of Six Degrees and Train of Thought.

How long did it take for the single LP releases to be avalaible after Vol 1 was announced?

Volume 1 was released in September 2024 and the individual records were released in January of this year.

Got it. We could maybe looking at a September release for the individual ones, perhaps.

Volume 2 arrived today. I'll check in later after I listen to Octavarium.

Octavarium is one of the few DT records available on Amazon right now, but I´ve heard complaints about that pressing. Let us know how this one sounds.

dualpalmpilots

I can confirm that ITPOE pt 2 is indeed on side 4 of Systematic Chaos.

Octavarium is a German pressing. It sounds good to me, but I do not own the 2013 pressing, and my equipment is maybe just above entry level. I'll try and post photo of the label later, maybe one of you can tell me if it's the same as the 2013 pressing.

Here's the label from side 1 of 8VM from the box set.

Just FYI, the label itself doesn't indicate which stamper was used, the barely visible numbering and lettering in the inner groove of the record outside of the label is where you'll find that information. If it's difficult for you to get a good picture of it, can you transcribe it instead?

Ah my bad, very new to the hobby. I'll do it when I get home.

You've taken your first step into a larger world.

(based on your profile pic I think you should get the reference)

I was actually on the fence about this release, but my wife insisted on getting it for me for Father's Day, so it has been ordered.  We got it from the Warner Music Canada site so it doesn't ship until the end of the month, but I'm really looking forward to it now.

dualpalmpilots

How fun. I hope you enjoy it!

Yes, I get that sense. I got a Fluance RT82 and some decent Edifier speakers for Christmas. I am really enjoying it all, so far.

Welcome to the world of collecting expensive fragile frisbees, where this hobby can easily turn into a full-blown mental illness if you're not careful.

Progmaniac1988

Ah screw it, I bit the bullet and just preordered the set. I did not preorder vol 1 and ended up having A LOT of trouble getting I&W. I ended up finding it for $60, way over the actual price, but not bad considering what it costs on eBay now! lol

Not going through that again!
lol

I have octavarium already but it's not a great pressing and I hope this one is improved. I'll just sell whichever one I think is inferior. Six degrees and TOT are personal favs, and I love SC. Very underrated album imho.

Birthday is early June so I thought I'd get this for myself lol

Cross referencing with Discogs, it looks like they used a new stamper for 2025. "RKS Sterling" indicates that Ryan Smith was the mastering engineer, and he is not credited on the 2013 pressing. Along with your own positive assessment, that is very hopeful, but we'll see when it's actually out and more folks discuss it on there! Thanks a bunch.

This was a fun little mystery to solve so thanks for doing the digging! It'll be interesting to hear more in the weeks ahead.
