Quote from: Stadler on October 18, 2024, 07:04:26 AM"I like her music, but in my estimation, I'm uncomfortable with the level at which her organization exploits marketing opportunities" is a far cry from "Fuck Taylor Swift!"  As I noted, James is an artist, and he can't be so oblivious that he doesn't get that she connects with her fans.  It just seemed cheap and gratuitous.

I am imagining the puzzled looks on the faces of fans at a live show when James says, "I like her music, but in my estimation, I'm uncomfortable with the level at which her organization exploits marketing opportunities," and it is making me laugh.  Well done. *golf clap*

I don't think an apology is necessary.  Moving on is.  And I say this as someone with a lot of respect for Ms. Swift.

Fair point, in that light I can see it making sense that James LaBrie apologized for his crass words and less because of the beautiful ideas he has of dismantling the patriarchy

Same with me but SFAM.  That was their peak for me.

Two pages of this stuff, really?!?  :dunno:

I'd expect that before the album came out, but we've got plenty of DT stuff to over analyze.

I liken most current music to McDonalds.  Is it known worldwide? Yes.  Is it popular?  Yes.  Is it GOOD?  Uhhhh.....

Parasomnia

Just had an idea and I wonder if I'm far off or not (but we probably won't know till February).

Are We Dreaming is the Wait For Sleep/Far From Heaven of the album, and is reprised in The Shadow Man Incident which is the Learning To Live/Breaking All Illusions as well as Count Of Tuscany of the album. Are We Dreaming, therefore, being reprised somewhere in Shadow Man. We'll have to Wait...(for sleep?)

Just a heads up, preorders for the box set are up on rough trade's website. Like Amazon they won't charge until it ships. So I preordered on both, whoever charges me first and gives an update will be the order I keep. Or maybe I'll keep both and only open one? 🤷 we shall see! All other versions of the album are available on rough trade too. So more order options for anyone that missed the opportunity on the inside out website

Quote from: TheHoveringSojourn808 on October 18, 2024, 05:55:57 AMNot really that weird. Feels like an absolutely appropriate reaction especially given her complete saturation of all discourse, culture, media, sports, etc. in 2023 and 2024. Feels crazy that more people aren't saying "What the fuck". American society loves to heap praise on singular people that have overinflated egos (Trump and Swift)

What an absurd statement.

Quote from: TheHoveringSojourn808 on October 18, 2024, 06:32:13 AMNo issue with liking her or her music (I count myself in that crowd, and have seen her live). There absolutely is a difference between liking, even loving someone's music, and the parasocial stuff you see going on on Tik Tok and other platforms. That combined with her over-the-top aggressive marketing approach (which is just her mgmt being capitalists, nothing wrong with that, but I am an anti-capitalist) that I take issue with. I don't see what's so hard to understand about people pushing back on her honestly lol. I can both like her music and think her brand has gone way too far

That gives James the right to say a big 'fuck you' towards her to his own crowd unprovoked?  I understand the hype gets a bit much, but James should have known better.  He was clearly in the wrong and it was a silly thing to do.

This needs to be played before they play the song live  :rollin

Looks like the Art Book is sold out on Century Media.  Any chance of them restocking?  Either way, DT might find me buying this album twice!  I recall the last two art books I bought were slightly delayed (a week or more?), so the only way to get the music on release day is to buy the digital album.

Ah, such is fandom.

Shoutout to Skeever.

A couple of pages based on Taylor Swift in this DT-day and age. How come.

After tonight I won't be here a couple of days. I'll drive to Germany for the gig on wednesday and do not want any setlistspoilers from the O2.

I've seen him once with TransAtlantic here in 013, Tilburg. Was there with my dearest friend, who brought me into Dream Theater back in '17. He is a fan since Awake and last couple of years, although he had the utmost respect for Mangini, always said to me "but Portnoy is something special. One of a kind."

The moment he took place behind the drumkit that night, I knew what he ment. And now we travel to Germany to see him with our favorite band. I would never have believed anyone who would mention this would happen ever again.

Uncle Rico

I see I've missed a bunch since page 9; I just skimmed thru the rest. I see the topic is now art and album covers. I don't like the album cover for this one; looks like something generated on a cheap AI app.

Several pages back there was some talk on Train of Thought and Octavarium. Neither of those albums aged well for me; in fact, I only like the last two songs on both. I think the last truly great album was SDOIT, and they've been on the decline steadily ever since SC.

Just my 2 cents. Carry on.

Dellers

I would look more forward to another Mangini album – the drumwork on AVFTTOTW is without question my favorite on any metal album – what still makes me pre-order is the addition of an Atmos mix. I recently got the new Leprous album, and listening to the Atmos version is such a great experience. I upmix stereo music anyway, which is also a superior experience compared to just using two speakers, but a full fledged Atmos mix gives the best possible experience. Too bad that it's not available in a smaller package, those large artbooks are expensive and impractical in larger numbers. A CD + Blu-ray in a normal CD case would be optimal IMO.
