Quote from: TheCountOfNYC on December 05, 2024, 10:33:49 AMI think there's a clear difference between "trolling" and harassment, just like there's a difference between pranks and emotional abuse. Some people sadly don't understand the difference, and it ends up causing real problems. With pranks, there's a difference between "I taped the spray nozzle on the kitchen sink shut so you get a little wet when you turn the sink on" and "I cut holes in all of your work clothes so you can't go to work today and have to replace all of your clothes". Similarly, with trolling, I think there's a difference between "you told my coworker that her family is going to hell so I'm gonna blast metal music while you're stuck in a van with me" and "I'm gonna create multiple accounts on this forum and verbally abuse long time members because I'm mad that my original account got banned". At some point these things go too far and it transitions to the prankster or troll becoming the clear villain.

And yes, the "innocent" trolling example is something that I actually did. I still have the Spotify playlist.

Sure, but when the internet is concerned, where it's only communication via text (and not verbal, physical, etc) I think that "line" you mentioned is way, way, lower.

But I can't agree more with both WilliamMunny and Stads with their posts.  :tup

I've already apologized for that, and that incident is in part why I have the strong views I do. I know that what I did was frustrating to many and have atoned for it. Not sure what your issue is but you don't need to be rude brother.

EDIT: Also, in before you ignore this message without response and casually go back to ignoring me until a few weeks from now when you have another pissy comment to say to me :)

Apologizing is fine, but quite frankly you are the *last* person who should be trumpting "As a stark anti-troll blah blah blah..." because it falls flat. You trolled this place yourself. Maybe you've atoned for it, and if so, great. Some people (not myself) definitely believe you have not and suspect you are Pastor Chicken Rico. So please leave it to others discuss the trolling and don't try to set yourself up as somebody who is vehemently against it and leading the charge.

That's one of the most insulting things I've ever heard. Thanks man  :tup Have a nice night.

EDIT: It's really a shame to see you won't give me a second chance. It's beyond absurd that you believe people can't change. I would say my posts in the last year have shown a clear turnaround from my rocky beginnings here, but if that's all you are ever going to see me as, I'm not sure I'm going to continue interacting with you. Don't need that kind of energy in my life

Who said I didn't give you a second chance? I *am* all for second chances, but you seriously rubbed me the wrong way with your crap so it will take some time. Yes, you have improved, but then you post asinine stuff like JL's blonde goatee on Tik Tok and I think "here we go again..." And as I stated previously, I'm not the one thinking you're Pastor Chicken Rico (it shouldn't be difficult to figure out who at least one of the forumers here that does), so take that for what it's worth. But no skin off my back if you don't interact with me.

TL;DW: "it's the first song we wrote, and it's quite heavy".

TheBarstoolWarrior

Pretty useless. We already knew it was the first song they wrote. I hope that's not the entire 'behind the song' clip.

I actually didn't, believe it or not. My guess would have been for the overture to have been written first (but then again I rarely ever noticed anything since after I finished the timeline thread)

Overtures are almost always written last. You can't write an overture without first knowing the themes and melodies from the rest of the album which it will be sneak-previewing.

Usually, true. But I do think I remember reading that at least for 6DOIT, they wrote it first.

I'm quite sure that they wrote Distopian Overture first too, but who am I to know in that case

I would like to know if anyone can confirm this. Always listened to SDOIT Overture as a song where they must have known the themes, since it so distinctively transition between them.

Kyo

At the time it was said that Jordan put together the overture first and then they expanded the themes from that into all the following sections.

hefdaddy42

Overtures are normally written last, or close to last, by incorporating the main themes of the individual pieces comprising the larger work.

In the case of 6DOIT, Jordan wrote the Overture first, and then they fleshed out the rest of the piece using the various themes he used in the Overture.

Podaar

Strange, the song hits better when preformed by younger people!  :lol

bosk1

Great song as a standalone.  But now that the album is out, I can say that it is even better in the context of the album.

Also just wanted to say that I don't get the hate for reaction videos that was expressed a few pages back.  (1) They possibly expose new fans to the band.  (2) Have you ever shared new music with someone and wanted to see how they would react to it, hoping they would like it?  How is a reaction video drastically different from that?  It's just a different medium of getting to share the experience of enjoying something you like with someone else.  What's wrong with that?

Podaar

Agreed. I enjoy many reaction videos...especially, strangely, when they don't agree with my take.
