This. I really hope they don't do this.

Metro

Yeah they gotta play some MM era stuff. I wouldn't expect more than like 3 songs if anything though.

One can dream but I hope they'll play some oldschool and B-sides tunes like Eve, Speak To Me and Another Hand/The Killing Hand.

Pretty clear everyone notices how under-played SDoIT Disc 1 is. 4 of the 5 tracks here and I had the other on my list.

yeah it was my first "new" DT album and tour, though i'm happy i saw most of 6doit live, i'd kill for a live version of disappear

Yeah, I didn't include Misunderstood or Disappear on my list, but they'd still be a lovely surprise if they did break them out. The Great Debate would be cool too, though it's probably my least favorite of the five at this point.

Wouldn't be surprised if they don't touch MM the first tour back but it'll be a real shame if MP goes full Frusciante and refuse to play non-MP stuff ever.

MP himself said that he'd be willing to play MM stuff if the rest of the band wanted to, although you get the sense that he would prefer to play stuff from his era (which is reasonable enough). But given that 1/3 of the current catalog is with MM and there are some great songs from that era, I think it's safe to say there will be at least a few of them that appear in the setlists.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Yes, and not to mention a lot of tunes from the first MP era are overplayed at this point. No way they're ignoring a third of the catalog.

Trav

Sure. But as this thread has shown, there is an entire setlist and more of songs from the (first) MP era that haven't been played in over a decade.

axeman90210

I wouldn't be surprised if just in the first run of shows there's no MM material just because there's so much MP Mach 1 era material that they can choose from, but I don't think that would necessarily be indicative of the MM era being ignored in general.

I would guess there will be one song from the MM era on the setlist for the first DT tour with MP. Between the new material and older MP era stuff I would imagine they aren't thinking about much of the MM stuff at the moment

It depends how limited the setlist is. If they do something like they did on the DoT tour and play the entire new album in the second set, that'll only leave room for 6-8 more songs.

I'm not directing this at you HoSo, but JP did a great job of including MP Era tracks in the setlists. It feels like people are thinking nothing's been played since MP left. They've hit every album multiple times.

I would appreciate it if they include at least 5 Mangini era songs in the setlist. I wouldn't mind either if they included just the singles.

There are Mangini era songs that would sound great with Portnoy on the drums, and I feel it wouldn't be much different than the songs recorded with MP.

Barstool Warrior
Transcending Time
The Enemy Inside
On The Backs of Angels
This Is The Life
Breaking All Illusions
The Bigger Picture
Surrender to Reason
Behind The Veil
S2N
Viper King
Paralyzed
Fall Into The Light
Sleeping Giant
Awaken The Master
Invisible Monster
The Gift of Music
Moment of Betrayal
The Path That Divides
A Life Left Behind
A New Beginning
Savior In The Square/When Your Time Has Come

If they do a pre-release tour that is essentially a "welcome back, Mike" tour, and they have a shortened set (i.e., not evening with), I could maybe see them temporarily not playing any MM era songs on that tour.  But I would be shocked if that happens once they release the album and tour in support of it.

From the amazing Rolling Stone interview, these factoids came out:

- Mike, as previously stated, is open and willing to play anything, he would like to take over the setlist duties again, but he's not gonna be "dictatorial" about it.
- Petrucci does not want to forget the Mangini albums, especially The Alien that won them a Grammy.
- No further context provided, maybe it was a joke that didn't translate, but LaBrie doesn't want to sing that song.
- This is for the debate about how much Mike knew about what DT were doing without him - he stated he has to catch up and see what he missed, so while he might have heard all the albums at a point in time, he really doesn't know them so well to the point that he alone could pick songs for the setlist, it will be the other guys I guess suggesting which songs they'd like to play.

I think what he said was honest. In my private discussions with him, obviously he had heard ADToE and made the song structure connections to IaW (and this was *before* Thiago made his Facebook post) as well as BtFW and TA. Plus he had IT listed among the various epics on his iPhone that he shared a screen cap of at one time on Facebook. So as he said in the interview, he was obviously aware of each of the albums (and probably each of the live releases) since he would be curious about what they did without him, but he probably made a conscious effort not to focus on them. So he has more than likely listened to each of the albums once or twice, but beyond that, probably not at all. And given the amount of music he listens to (and media in general for that matter), he probably doesn't remember much about anything on any of those albums aside from some generalities.

So...only 2 songs from the last 7 albums and completely ignoring the new album (while, at the same time playing THREE songs from FII)?

Maybe he was going for least likely setlist? It'd be a finalist.  :)

Stupid me. Haha.

I think FII is a great album and want to hear songs from it
It actually would make the tour even more special to play those songs.

Has some rarities/never played songs
Has the hit song Pull Me Under from 1992's Images and Words!!
Has SOME alternating songs, so as to not be super predictable, but not a crazy amount
