Your favorites of these Dream Theater "pieces of work?"

I used to think A Mind Beside Itself was amazing. Then I realized it was just Voices that was amazing. Erotomania is a hot mess, and The Silent Man is just all right. I definitely prefer SDOIT disc 2, Octavarium, and ACOS....although ACOS is kind of a hot mess, too.

Their best song on their best album. 

You're half right!  It's the best song on their absolute worst album by some distance.

That's not true.  Octavarium isn't on The Astonishing (and, if it were, that album would be quite a bit better).

I wanted to pick the 12 step suite, but I just can't stand Repentance at all, and The Root of All Evil just doesn't fit in the theme at all IMO, but The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, and The Shattered Fortress are STELLAR....
