Just wanna play imagining alternative line ups (I don't remember if we've done it already. Maybe yes). Just one condition: at least one current member. Me first:

Guitar: John Petrucci
Vocals: Mark Boals
Bass: Steve Bailey
Keyboards: Vitalij Kuprij
Drums: John Macaluso

nikatapi

Guitar: John Petrucci
Vocals: Ashe O'Hara
Bass: Martín Méndez
Keyboards: Alex Argento
Drums: Gavin Harrison

There's a "super group" thread on GMD, and probably half of those have at least one member of DT in them.

Oh yeah!!!

Michael Bolton : Vocals
John Petrucci : Acoustic Guitar
John Myung : 4-string bass
Derek Sherinian : Hammond, Piano, Saxophone
Mike Portnoy : Latin percussions and 5-piece drumkit

Thanks mate. Didn't know that.

Moderators: you may delete this thread. Thanks.

This is really just a hypothetical John Petrucci solo work thread, if on the side he decided to gather up insane lineups to play his music for each solo album and release one to two a year, maybe it's LTE-like, or more composed, or entirely improvisational. I'd check 'em out.

Now that Fates Warning are pretty much done with studio albums, I'd like to see Ray Alder work with JP on a killer album. Add Myung, Bobby Jarzombek and Kevin Moore and you have a great side project that does not include Mike Portnoy :lol
Fates Theater anyone? :metal

I started with JP because of his presence strenght. It can be anyone:

Bass: John Myung
Drums: Simon Philips
Guitar: Paul Gilbert
Keyboards: Derek Sherinian
Vocals: Dino Jelusic

Skeever

Vocals: James LaBrie
Guitar: John Petrucci
Bass: Tony Levin
Drums: Marco Minneman
Keyboards: Adam Holzman

illusionist

Guitars: JP + Jeff Loomis
Bass: Steve di Giorgio
Drums: Danny Carey /Virgil Donati
Vocals: Bruce Dickinson/Daniel GIldenlow
No keys.  :metal

XJDenton

Vocals: James Labrie
Bass: John Myung
Guitar: John Petrucci
Drums: Mike Mangini
Keyboard: Kevin Moore

This is my list. It's more of a wish list as it includes musicians who are no longer with us. Also, realize that some of the people listed couldn't handle DT's material but included them more for the different vibe/feel each would bring to the band:

VOCALS:
Freddy Mercury
Mike Baker
Russell Allen
Erik Rosvold
Fred Marshall
Ian Parry
Charlie Dominici
Ray Alder
John Arch
Clarence Osborne
John West
DC Cooper
Damian Wilson
Robert Plant
Ian Gillian
Ronnie James Dio
Fish
Zack de la Rocha
Daniel Gildenlow
Jon Oliva
Dennis DeYoung
Matt Barlow
Stu Block
Geoff Tate

GUITAR:
Brian May
David Gilmour
Steve Rothery
Ritchie Blackmore
Jimmy Page
Al Pitrelli
Jasun Tipton
Michael Romeo
Alex Lifeson
Ian Crichton
Criss Oliva
Alex Skolnick
Jeff Loomis
Tom Morello

BASS:
Steve DiGiorgio
Troy Tipton
Bootsy Collins
Joey Vera
Flea
Geddy Lee
Tim Commerford

DRUMS:
Casey Grillo
Scott Rockenfield
Jason Rullo
Cozy Powell
John Bonham
Neil Peart
Brad Wilk

KEYBOARDS:
Jens Johansson
Alex Staropoli
Kevin Moore
Keith Emerson
Richard Wright
Jon Lord
Tony Carey
Jim Gilmour
Rick Wakeman

Renzo

(unrealistic):
Vocals: Ross Jennings
Guitars: John Petrucci
Bass: Amos Williams
Drums: Gavin Harrison
Keyboards: Kevin Moore

(a more "what if" one):
Vocals: Charlie Dominici
Guitars: John Petrucci
Bass: John Myung
Drums: Marco Minneman
Keyboards: Derek Sherinian

The one condition should be that the list has JP on guitar lol. The band's core sound does not exist in any universe without Petrucci.
Disclaimer: All opinions stated are my own unless otherwise specified. I do not personally know any present or former members of DT. From time to time where the context is or should be obvious, I may decline to explicitly label my words as opinion. I cannot predict the future.

BeatriceNB

Vocals: Cedric Bixler-Zavala
Guitar: Omar Rodríguez-López
Bass: Juan Alderete De La Peña
Drums: Jon Theodore
Keyboards: Isaiah "Ikey" Owens
Percussion: Marcel Rodríguez-López
Saxophone: Adrián Terrazas-González
Tambourine: James LaBrie

In all seriousness, I wonder what an improvisation-focused project with the current lineup (sans LaBrie) would sound like, like LTE, but fully improvisational.
