So i noticed someone shouts "Yeah wizard" on the intro of Viper King. Sounds like Mike Mangini to my ears. Anyone knows what's the story with this?

Wim Kruithof

never heard it before but now you made me aware... thanks.

RoeDent

I definitely heard some enthusiastic shouting but I didn't realise what the words were. I assumed it was some sort of "YEAH!" thing.

evilasiojr

Yeah, it does sound like a Mangini excitement shout

porcacultor

Wow, it's definitely "Yeah, wizard"!! And I'm pretty sure it's Mangini! Thanks for the heads up, I used to think it was just "yeah, baby" or something.

Oh wow, I thought it was "yeah baby" too.

Slightly related, I just listened to VK to hear the intro again, and I never realized just how cool and awesome JP's solo is. I hope we get to hear more of that side of DT on the new album.

Kotowboy

It doesn't sound like Mangini's voice at all to me.

That's funny, it sounds exactly like him to me.

I could tell it was him the first time I heard the song. It's actually pretty obvious.

gzarruk

Definitely Mangini having fun there :lol
I wonder if the "one, two, three, four!" at the intro of The Holiday Spirit Carries On is also his voice with some pitch shifting effects.

Might be obvious to someone intimately familiar with MM's voice, but I'm not sure I've heard him speak since the audition videos a decade ago.  I might have guessed it because it doesn't really sound like JP or JLB (and it obviously wouldn't be JR or JM), but I don't see how it's obvious.

gzarruk

It was one of the bears who passed by the studio. Obviously.

I've heard him speak in video interviews over the years. Not necessarily "intimate".

Kotowboy

It doesn't sound like his timbre at all. The voice in the song has a completely different quality of voice. Mike's voice is quite thin and high pitched.

The voice in the song sounds quite powerful and deep.

That said i've only ever heard Mike speak softly in interviews. I've never once heard him raise his voice.

For all anyone knows it could have been Jimmy T or Maddi.

hunnus2000

It can't MM, he's from Boston so he wouldn't yell "Yeah Wizard".

He would yell - Yaah Wizaahrd!  :lol

brents319

I never realized the words were understandable.  :rollin

Dittomist

I always thought it was James yelling "Yeah Rudess!"

I'm sure that bear welcomed John to the family :D

The fact that it's called BearTracks suddenly makes so much sense. It's where the bear tracks his guitar parts.
