3 years? Holy crap!

This was a lot of fun and I'm glad others enjoyed it. I started studying with a Bebop teacher about a year ago, after a period of self-study in jazz that lasted about a year prior to that. So, I have been very busy in my Musical life, but have not been going as hard in the progressive metal guitar direction.

However, I'm sure I will circle back sometime sooner rather than later!

I really really want to have the discipline and attention span to head down this road.

Forgot this thread existed but since it's bumped, I'll add something.  Did a few JP covers a few months back when bored.  I did post these somewhere when I did them but I'll pimp them again here.

Thank you so much Karolis!!  :metal

How do you like the Ibanez JP? I had a early model Ernie Ball Music Man and surprisingly I didn't care for it mainly due to where the knobs where.

Could've used a kangaroo in there, but fantastic job!

Curious (and maybe you've answered elsewhere) how you learn these songs? Is it solely by ear or are you reading tab? Watching video? I'm so awful at learning things cause my ear is terrible at catching notes/intervals.

I mean, I love to have the attention span to play like you. I guess there is definitely different kinds of patience and attention that go into different things.

Wow, that's fantastic playing as always, wolfking!

I'd love to see more in this thread from people at all skill levels. I know it's difficult putting yourself out there, especially in a forum where the skill level of many is likely to be off the charts but seeing perfectly imperfect versions of songs or riffs is wonderful. A year ago, I decided to make my own meagre skills public as part of an effort to shake a few things up in my life. And that's why you can see me interpreting The Answer Lies Within in my signature. If I can do it, so can you - believe me!

Go on, give it a go

Nicely done  :tup

I always wanted to learn this piece, just never put the time into it.

The closest I've ever been to learning a full DT piece (on bass) was Stream of Consciousness some years ago. I got most of it, as it isn't too hard to play for DT standards, but just never put enough time and effort on it to learn the whole thing and try to record it. Here's hoping I do at some point.

I whole-heartedly agree with the sentiment of your post (and I've checked out your Youtube page as well)...it can be difficult putting yourself out there, but you are absolutely right in that there is a place for people of all skill levels when it comes to music.

For me, however, I just have never been one to sit down and learn other people's music...and certainly not to a point where I'd want to record and share it. And with the limited time I have these days, if I'm doing anything music related, it's going to be on the personal front.

That all said, I certainly learn bits and pieces here and there, mostly as a means to practice and work on my chops. There was a point where I'd learned all The Glass Prison parts note for note, but I'll be damned if I could play that now (made for a cool party trick though back in the day).

Still, it's inspiring to see people still pouring themselves into music. With the advent of AI and all the other modern distractions vying for our time, any time spent playing, learning, or simply listening to music is, in my humble opinion, time well spent.
