Piggybacking off the "what song would you like to see DT cover?" thread, this is the opposite.

Obviously, a lot of DT's stuff may not be conducive to covers that aren't very similar to the original style, but I'd like to see songs like The Silent Man, Hollow Years and Wither covered by a more vocal oriented band.  For example, I think a band like The Corrs would do a great cover of Wither.

What about you?

TAC

The Corrs did a great cover of Phil Lynott's Old Town.

Hmm tough question. Not a ton of bands can pull DT off...

I always thought "These Walls" with a bit different arrangement would have made a good Linkin Park song.

Pantera probably could have done Mirror/Lie better than DT, but that's not really fair as Pantera definitely had some influence on those songs.

Another Day may be suitable for a female pop artist who isn't overly "generic" or "vomit inducing". (probably Alicia Keys) I always thought Within Temptation may be able to play a Portnoy-era DT (except FII) piece rather well.

Hm, let's see. Limited to prog bands with keyboards:

A classic prog metal band should cover The Killing Hand. Maybe Circus Maximus, considering how they cribbed half of DT's discography for the riffs on their first two albums :P
Haken should cover Under A Glass Moon, Scarred or Voices.
Symphony X should cover The Mirror. The Glass Prison would also be really interesting from them.
Leprous could cover Surrounded, but make it weird.
Riverside could do a cute live mashup of JLMB and LITS, but I don't know what studio cover I'd like to hear from them. They could do a cool Home.
Let's put Seventh Wonder on LSOAD duty.
And finally, OSI should cover Lie  :yarr

As for metal and rock bands, I really don't know many that cite DT as an influence that I would actually like to hear covering their songs. Sonata Arctica could cover Another Day or Take Away My Pain because it's my other favorite band and I know for a fact at least one guy in the current lineup loves Dream Theater. Otherwise my minds is drawing a blank.

I want to see a massive black church choir do Chosen

EPIC Outro

I wanna see Symphony X cover Metropolis PT. 1.

Supposedly, Sonata Arctica covered Metropolis once upon a time, but I've never found video/audio of it.

Animals as Leaders - The Dance of Eternity
Tesseract - Pale Blue Dot
Haken - Metropolis
Symphony X - The Killing Hand
Periphery - Untethered Angel
Meshuggah - The Glass Prison
Architects - Paralyzed
Tool - Blind Faith
Sons of Apollo - Viper King

This implies that every band adds some 'personal touch' to the songs  :metal

Symphony X - The Killing Hand

Funny, I read this and a vivid "sonic image" in my mind of Russell Allen singing "lowered deep into the sea" materialized in my head.

I saw MP's Shattered Fortress and Haken did a really good job (Specially that ending for This Dying Soul!!!), so Haken would be a good choice for the more metal DT songs.
