Title says it all, specular discussion to the one about the initial songs on a DT album.

So, with most of DT epics placed at the end of the album, I think this is gonna be harder! which one is your favorite batch of THREE LAST SONGS on DT albums? is there an epic so good that it's gonna win all by itself, carrying "the weight" of the other two songs, or a better combination of three songs will "defeat" Octavarium or Six Degrees?

Evai

If you don't count 'Power Down', for me it's definitely The Astonishing. Makes it worth listening to whole thing each time  :)

Mladen

Under a glass moon
Wait for sleep
Learning to live

Pretty hard to top this, obviously.

Max Kuehnau

No, it's not IMHO. ADTOE and DT12 easily do. D/T may as well (we don't know about that yet of course, but we soon will.)

DTA

Lifting Shadows
Scarred
Space Dye Vest

Second place would probably go to Train Of Thought.

DT

Surrender to Reason.
Along for the Ride
Illumination Theory

Next best would Train of Thought and Awake.

One last time, spirit carries on, finally free.

No brainer

The final three of i&w a close second though

krands85

Definitely a lot of higher quality options this time I think, though quite a few examples with 2 absolute top tier tracks and a weaker and/or shorter and softer track.

Hard to top I&W though - with my favourite song ever in Learning to Live, another top 15 song in Under a Glass Moon and one of their best piano ballads in Wait for Sleep.

I really like how Octavarium and Systematic Chaos close out too - both ending with 2 songs that are among my favourites (Sacrificed Sons - Octavarium & The Ministry of Lost Souls - In the Presence of Enemies Pt.2). Both are let down by their preceding weaker tracks though - Never Enough and Prophets of War.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

KevShmev

Awake - the last three songs are all in my DT top 15.

Scenes and I&W would right after that.

Of course, those are the three best DT albums, so there ya go.

Lonk

The best album closer to me in Finally Free, just because of the plot twist and how awesome that song is so I would say

SFAM: One last time, Spirit Carries On and Finally Free.

Honestly, I think DT closest albums better than they open them. TOT, Awake, I&W, ADTOE and Octavarium all have pretty strong second half.

EPIC Outro

ThatOneGuy2112

It's a hard tie for me between I&W and SFAM. Both have DT's greatest closing tracks. Awake wouldn't be too far behind either, Scarred and SDV is a fantastic one-two punch right there.

BAI is great no doubt, but the other two don't shine as brightly, even though I do like them. And IT is good, but far from DT's best epic IMO, while STR and AFTR are just kind of middling.

Lethean

I think I'll go with Scenes this time, but it's a much harder choice than the opening three songs.  I&W, Awake, Six Degrees, ADTOE, DT12, all pretty close.

Cool Chris

Scenes and ADToE are the two that popped in to my mind first so that's my gut instinct.

ToT is pretty high up there, though I don't rank ItNoG as high as others here do.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

jammindude

Awake was instantly my first thought, and it's not even close.   I'm not even sure what #2 would be.  Probably IAW.

AboutToCrash

I will go SDOIT again.. Great Debate, Dissapear and Title Track.. about 60 minutes of epic-ness

TheCountOfNYC

This was actually pretty easy. Train of Thought takes it without question.

Vacant
Stream of Consciousness
In the Name of God

I more or less consider Vacant and Stream of Consciousness to be two songs but one piece of art, and they go perfectly together. And of course In the Name of God is just a beast of a song and one of their best album closers under 20 minutes. Train of Thought is a middle of the pack album for me, but the final 28 minutes are perfect.

Thank you, yes. Any love for The Astonishing will always make my heart feel good.

I feel that choosing 6DOIT (my fave DT album) is kinda cheating, lol. Without counting that, I would say:

The Astonishing (as it was mentioned, without the NOMAC track)
Train of Thought
A Dramatic Turn of Events (The Far From Heaven - Breaking All Illusions - Beneath The Surface combo has always been so special to me)

This was a hard question to answer. DT is usually excellent with album finales.

Ben_Jamin

ADTOE

Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions
Beneath The Surface

The next that comes closer is Awake. Scenes isn't far behind Awake.

jjfumbly

The Shattered Fortress
The Best of Times
The Count of Tuscany

Black Clouds and Silver Linings

Not bad.

pg1067

Hmmm...

UAGM - WFS - LTL are good, but UAGM is my least favorite track on I&W

LSOAD - Scarred - SDV are good, but Scarred is WAY better than the others, and the others aren't the best other songs on Awake

SDOIT might be the best last song on an album, but TGD is awful and Disappear isn't great (although last three TRACKS might mean just Solitary Shell, ATC Reprise and LT/GF)

Sacrificed Sons and 8VA are great, but Never Enough is, at best, meh.

Surrender to Reason - Along for the Ride - Illumination Theory are REALLY strong....

...but...I think I have to give it to Vacant - Stream of Consciousness - ITNOG.  Vacant is a nice little intro, and the other songs kick significant ass.

nattmorker

This one is hard... for me it is a triple tie between

SFAM - TOT - TA

jayvee3

Images for me, with ADTOE worth a solid mention. Awake has the brilliance of "scarred", and if SDV sounded like the live BTFW version, it would almost get the nod...

dream75

Dave_Manchester

Vacant
Stream of Consciousness
In The Name of God

The Octavarium final trio a close 2nd.

DT always end their albums very strongly. With the exception of TA, every album has a much stronger 3-track ending than 3-track opening (imo, of course).

BeatriceNB

Vacant > Stream Of Consciousness > In The Name Of God. That chain is just otherworldly, and TOT is one of my least favourite albums by DT.

Lifting Shadows > Scarred > Space Dye Vest is a good one too, same with Afterlife > Set The Sun > Matter Of Time. But, overall, I prefer Vacant>SOC>ITNOG.

RoeDent

Probably Never Enough>Sacrificed Sons>Octavarium.

Followed perhaps by Prophets of War>Ministry of Lost Souls>ITPOE2

Dream Team

Last 3 of FII, ToT is not good enough to save it. SC would be next.

Wrong thread, I thought this was LEAST favorite.

Nekov

LSOAD - Scarred - Space dye Vest

Not sure how they can top that, 3 amazing songs.

DT

Surrender to Reason.
Along for the Ride
Illumination Theory

Yeah it feels those three songs are interconnected.

I think most of the songs in DT12 are somewhat related in spirit even though JP said DT12 is not suite like for example SDOIT. But you can feel some connections going on there.  And the main theme is "Surrender|" a d illumination

Like in the Bigger Picture it introduces the listener to the concept of faith and seeing beyond. And in "Surrender to Reason"  it now reveals the main theme but the subject still seems to be still looking for something and still lost hence the line "Restless angels help me find my way"   and it starts to become clear in Along for the ride and ultimately resolves with the Epic suite illumination theory and surrender is once again emphasized in the fight movement finalle V:Surrender,Trust and Passion.

Very deep and lyrics to be honest made me really question how I deal with my life to be honest its like the songs really communicated with me in a divine way like no other.

Welp after all JP is Jesus.
