Good song  :tup
I think it is one of the best singles ever  :metal

lucasembarbosa

I voted C/Sufficient for UA, but I have to say that FITL gets without a second thought a B/Good.

Zydar

Good, but I'm sure it will climb to Great after some time.

Ninjabait

Great, for sure! This is up there with On the Backs of Angels and The Astonishing singles as some of the best singles they've released in the Mangini era for me

jakepriest

Sufficient

The clean/solo part is very good, but the rest of the song falls flat for me, including the intro

erwinrafael

Song is just less than a hundred thousand views from one million.

JLa

It's amazing really. World class musicians going at full force for 7 minutes and the only thing that sticks in my head is that Metallica-ish intro.

Voted Kevin just because. But I guess "sufficient" will do.

Polarbear

Good.

I was genuinely surprised just how much I liked it. Made me more excited to hear the album.

red barchetta

Very solid song.  Amazing guitars work but my only complaint would be the very quiet bass sound.  You would never hear a Rush song with a mask bass guitar like that.  And it's a shame.

What do you mean? You can clearly hear Myung at every point in this song. It's the most audible he's been in a long time.

Very quiet bass sound? You can mot hear that fat bass that kicked in along with the drums?

I guess some people really just can not distinguish between a bass and a rhythm guitar sound.

lovethedrake

I can hear the bass but I still wish it was louder.  As a fan of yes and spocks beard I think the Bass could be more audible.

At the beginning especially... I can hear Myung, but turn it up !

Metal mixes don't work as well as rock mixes when you turn the bass up over the guitar imo. DOT seems to be the perfect balance.

When you have such a nice, rich chocolate cake, it fills you up and doesn't leave much room for anything else

Right, metal mixes aren't going to sound like Rush mixes. Rush tends to have a lot of mids and highs in the bass guitar sound cut through. DT isn't going to really have that, but the bass on the first two songs off of D/T sounds good, full, and present.

SuperTaco

Great. This makes me very excited for the rest of the album.

Anxiety35

I voted sufficient.

I love the first minute and I would have enjoyed revisiting the thrashy riff again somewhere in the song. DT have done this in many of their songs but for some reason it's bothering me on this one. The opening minute or so sounds like it should be on a JP solo album. The middle section is cool. I dig the textures and the build up. Rudess' solo is great.

But overall as a song, it feels like 3 songs blended into one (the intro, the verses/chorus, and the middle section) like a medley. To me, the parts don't belong together.

Maybe the song hasn't clicked with me yet. I'm not angry or disappointed. It's the creative prerogative of the band to make what they want. I respect that.

TheOutlawXanadu

I voted for "Good". I enjoyed it more that Untethered Angel, which I also liked a lot. Very excited for the new record!

I liked it. I'll give it a few more listens and let it sink in before I vote.
There were a lot of neat parts. The intro immediately caught my attention, and that middle section is just stellar.
I will say, I still found the mix a bit muddy in the heavier sections. I kept picking up on cool stuff that was almost hidden in the background, that I would have loved to have had higher in the mix. Keyboard parts that are buried, and the vocals almost feel a bit, I don't know, drowned out in places? It's hard to describe. I will say, I liked how the drums sounded for the most part.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I'm definitely looking forward to this record.

wolfking

If there was a 'meh' option, I'd probably vote for that.

Agreed!

Bumping this as to make it the (un)official FITL discussion thread, since I couldn't find a dedicated thread yet and the song has been out for quite some time, this seemed to be the closest to a dedicated discussion thread.

After all this time, I still find the song HIGHLY enjoyable, and probably my favorite of the three singles they released prior to the album's release date. How has this one held up for everyone else so far?

I voted great, since it is far better than good and easily one of my 2-3 favorites from the new record.  I played this for a friend last week who hasn't been overly enamored with DT's work since the early 00's and he was pretty impressed. :hat
