The Astonishing = Metropolis 3?

I was thinking about the story after a few listens to the album and something occurred to me... What if The Astonishing is essentially Metropolis 3, and some of the characters are resolving their karmic cycle thing?

Faythe = Victoria / Nicholas
Daryus = hypnotherapist / Edward
Gabriel = Julian

Fayth / Victoria and Gabriel / Julian are in love again. Gabriel / Julian is once again Daryus / Edwards enemy or rival. Daryus / Edward nearly ends up killing Faythe / Victoria again. But this time he is stopped and nobody dies, so the cycle is resolved...

I'm pretty sure they didn't intend that to be the story, there are lots of characters that aren't explained by this, and I don't necessarily believe it as I would prefer to look at them as separate stories, but it is sort of interesting to think about. Discuss

I think the project is good enough that it'd be a decent product to be called Metropolis Part 3. I think it'd be a fair deliver. But they didn't choose that route, and The Astonishing isn't Metropolis Part 3, and the analogies are as strong as with Romeo & Juliet, and maybe any other love story.

I've always wondered about fans predisposition when it comes to sequels. If this was title Metropolis Part 3: The Astonishing would the aura of that previous album diminish the opinion of those who really love this album?

I will say that if that was the title, I would not have looked forward to the album very much at all. While SFAM is a good album, it would be below the halfway point in my album list. That plot is also nowhere near as good as TA's in my opinion. Really what stands out on SFAM for me is the music; if it was much more story driven like TA is I don't think it would even be noteable for most fans.

You couldn't be more wrong.

The Astonishing = Half Life 3.

Nefaryus = G-Man
Gabriel = Freeman
Arhys = Vortigaunt
Daryus = Headcrab
Faythe = Alyx Vance

XD nailed it.

I'm only half-serious, like I said I don't think that its meant to be that, but there are some parallels.

Well, one could argue that the Shaman is the hypontherapist, and that Nicholas and Victoria were a Perisan in their former life, but when that person died, they became the Dark Eternal Night, so once they were resurrected as Faythe, that's actually Metropolis Pt. 4.

I think you're on to something  :mehlin

DT really need to just embrace their fate and treat their albums like The Legend of Zelda, except with Metropolis; Keep writing the same story (as far as synopsis goes) with slight variations, different storytelling perspective, different settings and different interactions (in different points in time). Write different music that fits what's currently hip. Then turn the Hypno / Edward / Daryus into a timelord and connect all of these different separate stories together.

THE STORY ENDS WHERE IT BEGAN

The big mistake that Daryus makes is straight out of Hamlet however.

Anyway, people need to let go of this Metropolis thing. Part 1 was labeled as such for the lulz, and Part 2 has a storyline taken from another movie (Dead Again) anyway. And all the characters are dead in two chronologies except the villain. Metropolis is a masterpiece of a song and SFAM is a masterpiece of an album but just leave them alone.

Ugh, it was bad enough that this was suggested in the main album thread.

No it is not Metropolis part 3.

just leave them alone.

I can absolutely guarantee that will never, ever happen.  :lol

RoadTrain_of Thought

Please, stop making this happen! If it was meant to be Metropolis pt.3 it would have said it on the cover.

Bit of an insult (to say the least!) to compare this with the utter brilliance of Metropolis Pt's 1 & 2, I'm afraid to say.

Gross, Faythe and Daryus are brother and sister.

Progmetty

Faythe did shut the door and traveled to another home..
She did meet an older man who seemed to be alone..
She thought that she could trust him, she talked to him that night.
But he said "sorry can't speak, someone's waiting".
So it's not Metropolis Pt.3

In Losing Faythe, towards the end, the lyrics go

''I would trade my life
Just for one last moment''

For some reason I always expect ''moment'' to be ''time''.  :lol

Skeever

There are definitely some fun parallels, but if it were Metropolis pt 3 they would have called it Metropolis pt 3

There are 8 characters in the album booklet.

2^3=8
TA has two acts

Therefore...

Half-Life 3 Confirmed!

Xander is gonna get bit by a spider. The Astonishing is a prequel to Awake.

I was joking with my friend saying, "what if at the end of the last track we hear 'Open your eyes Victoria'?"

Arhys death was a dramatic turn of events. A Dramatic Turn of Event was Images & Words 2.0. Images & Words contains the song Metropolis part 1. Metropolis Part 1 served as the base for the album Metropolis part 2.
