Yeah and I couldn't cover a DT song and do my own solo :lol i'd get murdered.

We'll just get Coz to play the solos.

ErHaO

Steven Wilson - Space Dye Vest
Seventh Wonder - Finally Free
Allen/Lande (v/ Symphony X) - Lie

Not even sure why, but I feel these artist would give interesting renditions and the songs fit their capabilities/material quite well.

chaossystem

Anna Lee-Elton John

As I Am-Judas Priest

Because all the caps-lock and three question marks in "VAN CHERONE???" wouldn't make a good band name? Seriously, I'm at loss.

nEVERMIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Van Hagar is a common term many people use.  I did not invent it.   David Lee Roth would sound terrible singing any Dt song.

He sounds terrible singing most things.   ;)

Get out.

I would like to hear Extreme play a funky version of  "The dance of eternity"   I think Nuno could really do something with that song.
Since Mike Mangini was once in the band he can play drums.
Phish could play "the count of tuscany"
Neal Schon   "Hells kitchen"
Van Hagar    "in the name of God"
ZZ Topp  "the dark eternal night"

Van Halen was named for the Van Halen BROTHERS! NOT for who the SINGER is/was! They did NOT change their name when they changed SINGERS! If that were the case, why wasn't Van Halen 3 called "VAN CHERONE???"

Are you for reals? It's just an extremely common nickname to quickly identify the Hagar era of Van Halen, nothing more. You've only had 30 years to get used to it. :lol

Well now I don't feel so bad with your dismissal of Steven Wilson, knowing you'd rather listen to the DLR.   :lol

Not long enough.

And I found VH to be a HELL of a lot more tolerable when Sammy was their singer, which is another reason I thought the "name-change" was so stupid...

If they had actually written the name of the band as "Van Hagar" on the album-covers, then and ONLY thrn would I be wrong and those who disagree with me right.

But NO such album-cover EXISTS...does it?

David Lee Roth does not always sound like crap.   He is perfect in "i'll wait".   I don't like the immature attitude he brings to VH.
He is a heck of an interview though.   Listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with him as the guest.   It is very entertaining.
I don't like the crassness that Hagar brought.   That is why I like Van Cherone the best. Too bad they didn't
record the stuff they were working on.     Too bad the VH fans suck so much.   Eddy could me making some
great progressive records but they don't want to hear it.

Why the hell would anyone want VH to record prog? They're a rock band, and they rock better than anyone. If you want prog, listen to something else. That would be like hating DT fans for stopping them being a pop band because you prefer pop.

Um, Johnny Cash for one.  He covered NIN & U2.
Pat Boone - Enter Sandman, Crazy Train, No More Mr Nice Guy, etc... Okay, not really covers as much as "butchering", but it was done.

In all seriousness, someone mentioned Iron Maiden... Um, 6:00?? I can hear Bruce singing this  :tup

I don't really care what they play but Eddie himself feels restrained by what the fans expect of him.
I love his more experimental stuff and it will never be heard because of close minded people.
He said he has ten albums of new stuff in the can but with their latest album they remade 30 year old songs.

I'd like Eddie to do more stuff like this     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6LwYFR_-Qc

DT songs on keyboard are very variable and volatile.
I think The Mirror is very easy on keyboards, didn't take me too much to learn it.
However, I can't get through the first 30 seconds of Metropolis instrumental.

Just tho I'd share this and see other people's thoughts and personal experiences covering DT.

DT songs I have covered or tried covering.
The Mirror (100%)
The Root of All Evil (I'm not, in any way, satisfied with my solo, the rest of the song is even easier than The Mirror)
I can play parts 1 and 2 of Octavarium, however, as soon as the solo kicks in, I'm pretty much done (like the first 10 seconds of it is all I can play. As far as I could tell, the solo isn't the hardest part)
The Answer Lies Within isn't hard, I just lacked interest in finishing it.

I think we should make a thread for this...

Now, on thread, I once had a dream where Nightwish covered DT, I think it was The Enemy Inside, idk, lol.

rumborak

I went to see Queensryche yesterday, and they had Meytal Cohen open up for them. They played PMU as their cover song.

chaossystem

Johnny Cash has been mentioned a couple of times. I think The Silent Man would have been a good song for him.

Pragmaticcircus

Devin Townsend - Burning My Soul.....oh damn!  :mehlin

IDontNotDoThings

Perfect Strangers should be covered by Deep Purple.  ;D

Pragmaticcircus

I walk beside you - Metallica
Anna Lee - Slayer
Through her eyes - Megadeth
The spirit carries on - Anthrax

Seriously though:
Surrounded - Meatloaf
Under a glass moon/Illumination Theory - Symphony X

Here is a good one   "Pull me under" by Coheed and Cambria

Ben_Jamin

Coheed and Cambria - innocence faded

Pantera - the mirror

Bertie_Wooster

How about Dream Theater covering Coheed and Cambria's song "welcome home"  I think it would be killer

I SOOO want to hear STYX play DT!!!! Because they are such DAMN GOOD musicians (could you imagine Todd Sucherman playing Portnoy??) and INCREDIBLE singers (Gowan and Shaw doing LaBrie!!) and their both prog rock with high singing but SUCH DIFFERENT kinds of prog rock with high singing.

Plus they're my two favorite bands. I've always been dying to hear one cover the other.

If we HAD to have Styx taking on any of DT's music, I would want it to be the "classic" (1976-83) version.

The first thing I thought of was Tommy Shaw singing These Walls.

MAYBE James Young could do Burning My Soul.

It would also be interesting to hear what Dennis DeYoung might do with The Spirit Carries On.

I DID ask which songs, so if you don't like MY ideas, you should have beaten me TO it!

TheAtliator

Thank YOU Chaossystem and yes you DID  :lol  :lol

Actually I think all three of those you said are great choices. I could totally imagine that! Part of me actually wonders and wants hear something I totally can't imagine though, also. But yes, I forgot to include- I REALLY wish I could hear them do Learning to Live. That would be awesome and Gowan and Shaw would harmonize that F# section, it would be SOO cool!!

Yea... I get excited enough talking about either Styx or DT; but talking about BOTH??  :lol
