Here is Victoria with Lifting Shadows Off A Dream!
I hope I can finish Awake today.....

Me: Hey there Victoria!
Victoria: What do you mean hey there?
Me: We're back!
Victoria: I was with you the whole time.
Me: I mean, we're back to start our next song!
Victoria: Oh, I'm ready.
Me: Are you?
Victoria: Yeah.
Me: Really?
Victoria: Yeah.
Me: You sure?
Victoria: Just get on with it!  :\
Me: :D Let's start then. Put on the headphones!
Victoria: Alright. *puts on headphones*
Me: Here's the lyrics sheet and hopefully you will....ENJOY!
Victoria: Not too loud hotshot.
Me: But you have earphones on!
Victoria: Your point?
Me: Nothing. Let's just get started.
After Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
Victoria: *takes off headphones*
Me: Well?
Victoria: That was nice.
Me: REALLY?!!!!!!
Victoria: Keep it down!
Me: Sorry. :blush But, it was nice?! Did you really say it was nice?!
Victoria: That is exactly what I said. Go ahead, fire away.
Me: Sure thing! Actually, I'm pretty excited! Ok, what did you like about it? Any dislikes?
Victoria: I liked the extreme change in mood. The singer did excellent here and I just loved the cool vibe it gave. The mysterious lyrics would be the turn down, but it is still sung in an excellent way.
Me: :tup John Myung, the bassist wrote these lyrics. It was first based off of two chords and a poem. After an unsuccessful jam session, the band managed to make a song out of it. Umm, hold up. Found it. According to Myung the song is about "The duality between a man and a woman and how they can compliment each other." Also, Petrucci said, "We worked on it, racked our brains, recorded the jam and by the end of the night we were like 'Ahh fuck it. This sucks, We came by the next day, listened to the recording and thought it could be really cool. All of a sudden it evolved into this song." Any thing you want to say for that?
Victoria: Um, that's interesting.
Me: It is. Unfortunately, Myung doesn't write a lot of lyrics. He's only written a couple and there was an extremely long hiatus because his writing was in free form mode and it made it hard for the band to put it into one piece, so Portnoy made a rule that  the song had to be "properly formed, phrased, constructed, etc. to go with the melodies," and since then Myung had kinda backed off.
Victoria: Oh. So no more lyrics?
Me: He took a break from 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence until Black Clouds and Silver Linings. That's like a 5 album break.
Victoria: Wow.
Me: Yeah. Did you think the guitar fit into the song?
Victoria: It was a pretty awkward transition, but good I guess.
Me: Great. What'd you think of the introduction? *Plays introduction* Do you think the bass and piano did a good job of complementing each other?
Victoria: I mean, it wasn't bad. It was kind of like a very smooth introduction. The title seemed mysteriously soothing also.
Me: Dream Theater's chemistry is very good.
Victoria: Um, sure.
Me:  :lol What did you think of Moore's synth in the beginning?
Victoria: The synth was pretty cool. I loved the sound.
Me: Yep, it's really good. When would this song best be listened to by you? For example, I would listen to this song while going to school or while taking a shower........ok, ignore that sentence.
Victoria:  ;) Um, I would listen to this song when I'm in a peaceful mood. Or maybe when I'm meditating.
Me: You never meditate.
Victoria: How would you know?
Me: I know you Victoria.
Victoria: Well, maybe I do it before I go to sleep.....
Me: Wait, you meditate?!
Victoria: *Shrugs*  ;)
Me: Is that a yes or a no.
Victoria: .....................
Me: Well?
Victoria: :D
Me: Why do I even try.
Victoria: I do. Sometimes.
Me: That's shocking.
Victoria: What? Oh, so you think it's weird?
Me: No! You don't seem like that kind of girl.
Victoria: Well, it brings me peace so I can sleep peacefully.
Me: Oh wow.
Victoria: I know, it's weird.
Me: No, it's not. It's fine!
Victoria: Can we stop talking about this now?
Me: Yes. Anything for you. Before we sign off, do you have any closing comments you'd like to make?
Victoria: It's a very nice, mellow song. Overall, I liked it very much. Better than the others I have heard.
Me: Love your open mind. Keep it up and you will enjoy many more songs to come.
Victoria: Great. Who should I bring now?
Me: Maria, finally.
Victoria: Ok, thanks.
Me: No, thank you.
Victoria: Your welcome.

OnTheBacksofAngela

Here we have Maria and Scarred!

Me: Welcome Maria!
Maria: Thanks!
Me: Are you ready for this?
Maria: Yes. I was actually kind of looking forward to it.
Me: Really?! Why!?
Maria: Oh calm down! The only reason was because unlike the others, I only have one song!!
Me: Yeah, a long song.
Maria: Wait, what?!
Me: A long song.
Maria: How long?
Me: Eleven minutes.
Maria: WHAT?!!!!
Me: That was the reaction of Michelle and Nikki, but you'll get used to it. After all, some of their songs are over ten minutes long and there is a high probability you might choose it during the next few albums......
Maria: I hope I don't.
Me: Well, I hope you do. Remember what you said during the last song? You said that you won't judge until you listen to them.
Maria: Well then. Let's get started. *Puts on headphones*
Me: Here's the lyric sheet and enjoy.
After Scarred
Maria: *Takes off headphones*
Me: Well? Well?
Maria: Well? Is that what you wanna ask? It turned me off! So hard! I did not like it at all!
Me: Sorry about that. Let's go listen to What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction!!
Maria: EEEK!!!!! YAY!!
Me: I was kidding.
Maria:  >:( >:( Not funny at all......
Me: It kinda was.
Maria: No it wasn't! You lied! I want to listen to One Direction!
Me: After this experiment ends, you can listen all you want...and when you are not with me. Just bear with me, please. Can we start the interview?
Maria: Yep. But let's make it quick.
Me: Sure thing! Why did you think it was a turn off?
Maria: Oh! Good question. There is a lot of reasons. I did not like the singer's voice. I mean sheesh, lighten up. No need to sing aggressively. The length didn't really pester me as much as I thought it would. What I liked about it was the piano. Bits of it.
Me: What part?
Maria: It was near the end.
Me: *Plays 9:35 until the end.*
Maria: Yeah. It supported the entire song well.
Me: So, you didn't absolutely dislike it.
Maria: No.
Me: Then why'd you overreact?!
Maria: Maybe I was being too judgmental...
Me: DUH
Maria:  >:(
Me:
Maria: Psh.
Me: You said you didn't like the singer. What about this part? *Plays 5:12*
Maria: Well, ok, fine. He was great there, but I meant for the past parts. The screaming parts.
Me: I understand, but that wasn't screaming. Wanna hear real screaming in music?
Maria: No!
Me: Thought not.
Maria:  :tdwn
Me: This is considered to be one of the best songs by Labrie because of his vocal range. Do you agree?
Maria: Yes.
Me: Great! This is the only long song in the album. Any thoughts on that?
Maria: No.
Me: .........Would you listen to this song again?
Maria: No. If you skipped until after the screaming, sure.
Me: Great. Is that all you have to say about this song?
Maria: I guess so.
Me: Good. Then, you are dismissed. Can you bring Ashley for the final song, Space Dye Vest?
Maria: Sure thing. Will she enjoy it?
Me: Bits.
Maria:  :tup Be right back.
Me: Take your time.
Maria: Bye.
Me: See you later.

Too bad she didn't like it more.

I think it's interesting that when people on here are polled about which song they like best from each album, they usually, or very often at least, pick the LONGEST song.

The Killing Hand is very popular. LtL and Metropolis from I&W. ACoS. ToT from FII. ItNoG from Train of Thought. The title Track from 8vm. TcoT. BAA from ADToE. Illumination Theory. But when it comes to Scarred, that doesn't seem to be the case. I've often said that Scarred and 6:00 are more or less my favorite Awake songs, even though they're very DIFFERENT from each other, not that most of the rest of the album isn't good too.

Scarred is one of if not my favorite song from Awake...too bad she didn't enjoy it that much.

Yeah, that is true. Scarred is a great song and it's because of Labrie. I really his voice here!  :tup

I really think you should film the reaction of whoever gets The Dark Eternal Night :rollin

James does an amazing job on this song and it really shows how diverse his vocals can be. But even without James, the music by itself has some pretty cool stuff in it. I also really like Jordan's interpretation of the keyboard solo on BTFW for some reason.

Yes they will. The danger, the hideous ancient warnings forged in the void of night! They do not know,  but he has risen up! Out of the blackness, chaos. The last of the prophets, sinister, a sickening monstrous sight.  :mehlin

2) The Gift of Music and Moment of Betrayal by everyone
3)FII
Ashley:  You Not Me, Hollow years

Sophia: Burning My soul, Take away my pain
Nikki: New millenium, Just let me breathe

Me: "Here is Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. It's over 40 minutes long"

I suppose you're not gonna make one of them listen to the whole second album in one sitting... OR ARE YOU? MWahahahahah

EDIT: Perhaps make them all listen together to the entire suite?

or I can be boring and give the sub songs to each like here ashley, get solitary shell.

I think a "everyone listens" would be more interesting imo :) I actually think that would be nice for the 20+ minute epics.

Viking of the Sagas

At least then they can take comfort in each other. Especially Michelle seems like she needs her friends' support when listening to these long Dream Theater epics xD

Here's a crazy idea: Do BOTH! First have them listen to the individual parts of Six Degrees separately, THEN all of you listen to it as a GROUP!

That seems like dragging it out for the intention of dragging it out. I don't get what's the point in listening to a part of a song if you're gonna listen to the entire thing right after.

Minor off-topic for just a second:  Thanks to Hef for jumping on those other posts.  I deleted that whole sub-thread of discussion because it is pointless and off topic.  People need to knock off the stupid accusations.  It is, again, off topic and also comes across as a personal attack.  Yeah, it is possible that Angela is faking this entire thing and is just a gifted creative writer.  But that is possible of just about any thread.  There is no reason to accuse her or anyone else of being dishonest, and that needs to stop or additional warnings and/or bans will be handed out as appropriate to the circumstances.  Thanks.  Carry on.  Sorry for the further derail.

1) Eve (everyone reacts)

May I suggest the Live version played on 1993 March 4th at the Limelight? I really do think that the samples from Joyce's piece bring the song to even higher peaks of beauty (my opinion might be biased, as the song is steady in my top 10). You wouldn't have to worry about the sound quality, as the recording of that particular night is from the soundboard.

This reminds me of a question I've been wanting to ask: do your friends know that your conversations are being recorded and posted online. I suppose it would be illegal to do so without them knowing about it, so how did they react if/when you first told them how "public" this whole thing was going to BE?
