Hey folks,

A little while ago I was asked by Jordan Rudess to design the album for "The Unforgotten Path". Thought I'd share that here as well!

Really nice artwork. I like how it simultaneously feels really tranquil while also playing with your mind.

Prog Snob

Great work. I love that cover. I picked that up when it first came out.

Thanks mate! Glad to hear that it has that kind of effect on you :) I personally still love to look at the album artwork which is usually not easy for the artist as we quickly move on or even don't like what we did the next day! I guess that's the problem with being too self critical as an Artist. However, I am still very fond of it!

Maybe you have already answered this, but: when approached by Jordan, were you given any specific directive about the design you were to make, or were you given complete 'freedom'? The trees on the cover (I like them) remind me of a lot of Train Of Thought's booklet artwork. Were you inspired by it, or did Jordan want trees growing out of the clouds?

Also: I like the design. I haven't heard the music, but the artwork makes me think it's winter-ish music, so I might listen to it in 5 months (it's Summer here).

Hey there Sebastian,

I wasn't given any direction by Jordan really. In fact, I told him what I had in mind and showed him the direction (rough mockup) I wanted to go which he really liked. Then it was a matter of fine tuning and doing the final work. To answer your other questions, I was not looking at any of the previous DT albums as source of inspiration. I had a vision in my head and as mentioned Jordan went along with that idea. So I had complete artistic Freedom. I have been working with Jordan in the past so I think he trusts me enough at this point.

I suggest you give his album a good listen. It's very beautiful!!!

Thanks for the answer! So cool for you to have been given that artistic freedom. :)
As for the album, I'll do. I'm still listening to some other stuff I was given as presents, but I'll get to it eventually!

DarkLord_Lalinc

Definitely the best Rudess album art. Amazing job, Thomas!

TeacherBanks
