These guys are amazing. Enjoy.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veaKJ_tJqw0

We discussed this briefly on The Astonishing thread, but the video definitely deserves its own thread.  :tup

It's amazing.  :metal

Is it me...or the drums sound better than the original ?

Darkstarshades

As much as I love the other guys, I actually found it surprising that the singer falls short against James, and made me appreciate the latter better. Not bad, just don't like that guy's singing or the way he sang it.

As for vetkeyboardist, as a fellow keyboardist, I admire that guy, really.
The other ones are amazing too.

The drums sound better than the original imo. The whole mix is very good actually, and I can't fault the performances at all either. While the singer is great, I do prefer JLB, but otherwise I may actually slightly prefer it over the original due to the mix.
Great job on the choir section too. I wouldn't have expected that much detail, but that sounded beautiful. I especially appreciated hearing it isolated at the end.

Amazing job as ever, choir part was awesome  :D :coolio

Although it's not actually Bad Salad  :P
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Only the snare, maybe. MM's toms sound incomparably better, they're louder, fatter, more versatile (he has a bunch of them + octobans) and his cymbals sound better too, especially his giant, loud chinas. I'll take MM's kick sound as well.

I really wish the band could do this themselves. This is the most I've enjoyed this song by far!

Fantastic cover. Singer isn't my cup of tea, but everything else is great.

PetFish

Awesome as usual.

I think Rod's voice works perfectly for this song.

Amazing cover and no "TIIIIIImmmmeee"
yea, I was wondering about that.  If it's not an error and that is how it's sung then not doing it is wrong?

Bertielee

The singer, if I'm not wrong, is a guy going by the username of Cebra4444 on JP forum. He's a good guitarist as well as a good singer, although I prefer JLB on this one (and generally speaking). Good cover and amazing choir.

I wouldn't call it wrong, I'd say it's just a different interpretation. There are thousands of different performances of the Star-Spangled Banner, but none of them are wrong (except for the ones with the egregious showboating, or those that change the melody completely like Jamie Fox before the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight)

Train of Naught

I don't know anything about it, but maybe they just don't like that approach and didn't change it.

Great as always. It's always awesome when VRA releases a cover a week or two later after DT releases the single.
I really appreciate how quickly they learn and put out these covers.
Props to Thiago's mix too. It might be his best one yet.

I'm also going to agree that the drums here sound better and more organic than the original.

That was pretty great!! Instrumental section does sound quite ridiculous but nevermind this is really well done!

Can we change the topic title to "VRA's split screen cover" as it is not Bad Salad playing, but Thiago's other project?

Yeah, I think is more correct too. VRA differs from Bad Salad only for the drummer. But in case of this cover, the vocalist is another guy too.

Actually VRA! is an international project, as usually the musicians involved are from other countries and contribute via web. Fortunately this time the members were almost the Bad Salad lineup, consisting this time with the help of italian drummer Paco Barilla and venezuelan singer/guitarist Rod Calcagno, both already joined VRA! in previous releases (OTBOA and Fatal Tragedy respectively).

kirksnosehair

I haven't listened to the original song so I can't comment on the sound quality.

These musicians are all great players and I'm guessing if that vocalist were singing originals he'd sound a lot better than he does here.  Say what you will about JLB, he's very difficult to cover.

I personally think the vocalist did a pretty good job. I mean, I definitely prefer James, but as said above he is NOT easy to cover. Mix is great. I generally don't bother listening to covers unless they change some stuff from the original, but this one is very well-done.
Now, that acapella one is hilarious during the instrumental section, easily the best thing I have seen all day.

Thiagos has said that the difference between the band's is that VRA is more of a fun project with interchangeable members (other than him and his brother) while Bad Salad is a serious band with a fixed lineup.

Aside from the clearer cymbals in some parts, no. The toms do not even follow the unison runs up and down the scale in the outro instrumental.
