...working on pre-The Astonishing DT songs, and this is what I came up with:

I tried to order the songs and to combine them so that there would not be any weird beginnings and endings. Total running time is 1 hour 19 minutes and 47 seconds. Not bad at all. I guess a 20-song DT disc does not need filler noise/ambient instrumentals at all.

Regression slowly starting after FAS is anticlimatic... About to Crash following into War Inside My Head would be a bit weird I guess, and so the transition from Hell's Kitchen into Another Day... but you said you combined them so probably you avoived all the abrupt, PMU-esque endings

I was actually surprised at how Regression starting after FAS worked. It is because it's more of FAS being an intro credits music leading to a five song-suite. ATC Reprise, on the other hand, does not have a proper ending while War Inside my Head does not have a proper beginning, which is why they sounded good combined.

Hell's Kitches leading into Another Day does have a PMU-esque effect.

The Hells Kitchen into Another Day transition isnt too bad if Hells Kitchen ends on a fade out.

While most of these songs are at least decent, if this was an album (or a disc of an album), it wold rank pretty low. Let's hope the concept album approach makes a difference as it does with SFAM.

Yep. My takeaway from this exercise is that a 20-song DT disc can really be a bunch of complete songs, not full of fillers. If TGOM is an indicator of the quality of a 4-minute song in The Astonishing, I think this could be a good album.
