I am sure we have done this poll before, but opinions can always change, and with the influx of new posters with the new album coming out soon, I figured a brand new poll asking this question was worth a shot. ;)

I will go with 3rd favorite, behind Rush and Porcupine Tree.  :coolio

Zydar

BlackInk

Nomaniac

If you are talking personal favorites, it is #1 ;)

I get there are bands with greater legacies though, like Pink Floyd or like you chose Rush. But for me DT is just above all that in terms of personal preference :D

Other bands/artists that are my favorites are: Yes, Buckethead, Symphony X, Animals as Leaders, the ones you mentioned . . . the list can go on forever!

krands85

Clear #1 favourite and have been for over 5 years now probably.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

ThatOneGuy2112

Never really thought about band/artist rankings honestly. I'd say either top 10 or top 25.

lonestar

Second behind IQ, and in a tie with Yes, The Who, and Marillion

You know I've never listened to IQ, but I hear prog fans talk about them all the time . . . I gotta check them out ;)

TheCountOfNYC

While they're my favorite band right now, all time I have them ranked second behind Metallica.
Quote from: hefdaddy42 on November 12, 2024, 10:37:36 AMIn Stadler's defense, he's a weird motherfucker

thosava

Number one next to Iron Maiden. I have listened to DT alot more the last years, but i don't feel like i can take IM down a spot either (too much nostalgia  :P)

Destiny Of Chaos

They've been my favorite band since around '99 and I don't see them ever falling out of the top spot.

vazquez

Until Awake it was a TOP 5.

By the time of Black Clouds, it was like TOP 25, or worse.

Now it´s getting back to position and is TOP 10.  :hat

bl5150

I&W got them #2 in my DTF Top 50 albums but as a discog........well only Queensryche has managed to produce a more divergent reaction across a career (so much stuff I think is beyond brilliant and a whole lotta stuff I don't care for at all).

Definitely Top 10 but lower half I think.

Pretty much the same.  Knocked Rush off the top rung where they had been for 20 years.

BlobVanDam

DT and VH are in permanent battle for my all time top spot, so at worst they're #2. Two very different bands. :lol

BelichickFan

#1 and it's not really that close.

Maiden and Yes tied for 2/3.

Prog Snob

I loved them when I heard Images and Words but wanted to hear more before making them my favorite. Once Awake came out, they became my favorite.

CDrice

I rarely think about it, but I'd say they're most likely my favorite band. And it's been the case since 2009.

jammindude

There's a difference between "current" and "all-time"...

It's funny how, even in the case of my #1 all time favorite band Rush, I know their material so well that I hardly ever listen to it any more.  But I don't love it any less.

Dream Theater is my all-time favorite #2.   Porcupine Tree would be #3.   After that it gets tough.   But Haken is climbing the charts.

Tom Bombadil

Top 5. They were #1 for a while, but now I'd probably put them at 4.

OpenYourEyes311

#1 since I bought SFAM, Awake, and ToT in 2003. Knocked out Metallica after St Anger came out and i decided to find a new band. DT fit the bill and much much more, and still do.

mrrct

Still my favorite band of all time, but they are coasting a little from their older works.  None of their albums since Six Degrees would probably make my top 20 albums list.  They are not really in danger of being displaced, because most of my other favorite bands are very up and down in album quality.  I am excited for The Astonishing because it appears to be a return to form of their mid-career (at least "The Gift of Music" does).

V_R11

All-time favorite for several years now. And I have a feeling The Astonishing will just strenghen that opinion

Evermind

Probably somewhere in Top 10. Definitely not Top 5 though.
Quote from: Train of Naught on May 28, 2020, 10:57:25 PMThis first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

MacClaus

Top 50. I like DT, but there are so many other artists who recorded much better stuff.

Sycsa

Favorite band since 2011, before that it was Deep Purple and ELP.

There aren't even 50 good bands on Earth.

Huh?  I can name 100 off the top of my head without any cheating or looking.

Zantera

Maybe top 50 on the strength of Awake, SFAM, SDOIT & I&W. 5-6 years ago they were in my top 5 though, but I've been broadening my horizons and discovering a lot of music since then, so ranking gets tougher.
In my spare time I make music! Check it out. :)
