...Does it seem that since the release of I&W it seems that all their subsequent releases (minus COS) makes a pattern of a piano? Try it out and start from the A key as I&W. And furthermore I'm not trying to stir up a conspiracy about the band in any way. I just find it interesting to note.

Donmac1989

And to note that the Studio released albums are the white keys while the live albums are the black keys.

OMG NUGGETZ :neverusethis:

Images & Words = A
Awake = B
Falling Into Infinity = C
Scenes From A Memory = D
Six Degrees = E
Train of Thought = F
Octavarium = G ( lolwut )

Ohhhh...... :o

Yeah I have no idea what you're saying :neverusethis:

Well, to expand upon that:

     A#          C#    D#        F#  G#   A#     C#   D#      F#
A         B  C       D       E  F     G      A    B  C    D     E  F   G
     L             O       L          L      S     C        L      B
     I              I        S         A      C     I         A     T
     T             A       F          B      O    M        L     F
                    L       N                  R               P     W
I         A   F   T  S  Y  S  T     8   E  S    B  A    D    T
A        W   I       F      D  O    V       C    C  D    T    A
W       A    I       A     O   T    M             &  T
          K            M     I                          S  O
          E                    T                         L   E

Hopefully, this "pattern" is broken because that means The Astonishing won't get a live album, and being a double album AND a concept album, I highly doubt that any full live performance of it WON'T get released. A full performance of a concept album just BEGS for live release, so I think we'll see the end of this "pattern" by 2017.

Train of Naught

This is either way too complicated for me, or way too ridiculous. I'm going to guess the latter :jamaritard:

Kotowboy

I'm hoping that since the Emoticon thread - we don't have a fuck load of emoticons all over the place now. . .

Train of Naught

The ones we get are certainly going to be way more misplaced than usual.

Kotowboy

Can we delete that thread now ?

Donmac1989

Actually the Astonishing will kinda work cause its gonna be a double CD concept album like Periphery's Juggernaut. So if there is a live album after then it would ring true to the pattern. And to break it down it's I&W = A, Live at Marquee = Bb, Awake = B, FII = C, LIVEtime = C# and so on and so forth. But personally it's interesting there exists a pattern with the releases. Another interesting thing to mention. A is the first note on a piano and I&W marks the official start for Dream Theater.

seasonsinthesky

You have to skip ACOS to make it work. I dunno.

Pax

Can you please explain? I feel stupid for not understanding what the point is lol

No point really it's just an interesting nugget I found one day and it seems like no one has mentioned it yet. As for the explanation I have a visual representation I drew out, which I'll be uploading on the feed for everyone.

Donmac1989

Here is the image as promised.

Kotowboy

Basically starting on A - all the studio albums from I&M onwards are the white keys and all the live albums are the black keys. ( not the band - they suck balls ) .. . .

Train of Naught

So they will release 4 more records after The Astonishing, good work son.

Kotowboy

Now choose your favourite 3 albums and post the triad that results!!!

Scenes + Octavarium + Six Degrees = D,E,G  = Dsus4add9

Or maybe it is an inversion of the Emin7 chord  :lol :biggrin

Shadow2222

Okay, now I get it.

So the studio albums are the white keys and the live albums are the black keys.

I'm going to call it coincidence, of course, but still interesting. However, if we talk actual release order, it would be inaccurate since Luna Park came out after DT12.

No that's album 1 of the Astonishing and the adjacent key is the 2nd album of the Astonishing.

Except... The Astonishing is being released as ONE album, not TWO (like, say, Pain Of Salvation's Road Salt albums, or Ayreon's Universal Migrator albums).

Just because it is limited by the physical medium of being on two CDs doesn't mean it's two albums. Same goes for SDOIT. It took two discs to fill, but if you use that rule for The Astonishing, then you must apply it to SDOIT as well, which screws up the pattern. If you make a rule for one album, you must apply it for all if you want your theory to have any credit.

As I said above, the pattern will likely end here with The Astonishing.

I thought about that too :D second / third inversion ?

Either way it's a tone cluster almost... yadda yadda.

Ahh I get ya. But it still depends on if it gets a live release following up after. For that we'll have to see. But yea I get ya on the double disc thing, I just bought an album from Steam Powered Giraffe called the Vice Quadrant  that also ironically is a rock opera and it was a double disc concept album.

There's a ton of them in prog rock, and I'm not just referring to most of Ayreon's catalog! :lol

As for an eventual live release of The Astonishing, you can bet the band will release one from the upcoming tour. Any chance to release a full live version of a concept album won't get missed. They did it with SFAM on LSFNY, so I'm sure they'll do it with TA this time around. Heck, even in the fan clubs, they released live versions of IAW and 8VM, so releasing full performances of an album live isn't something strange for Dream Theater.

D, E, G -- first thing I think of is Em7

Oops, someone said that already

Kotowboy

Yes or a G major with the V in the bass and the octave on top or something

Byt then - Em7 and G major7 are the exact same thing so
