I think it's best not to get hung up on that sort of thing, or you'd end up never leaving the house!  :lol

Exactly this. I'm never going to let what those nutters do affect my life or stop me from seeing this masterpiece in it's entirety live in a beautiful theatre.

You just can't let them get to you. The more you do the more they win.

Very excited about this now.. Only 3 days of work and a 6:15 flight on Thursday morning to get through..

However, I think I'm failing in my attempt at learning all the lyrics in time. I'd say I've got maybe about 70% or so. How sad would it be to print them out, or have them on the phone during the concert?

LOL the printout would be preeeety sad and if you had them on your phone people would just think you were texting/uninterested haha!

Just push for that last 30%.

To be honest, I'm only at like 40% probably. Maybe less. But I know all lyrics to my favourite sections and songs so that will do me. Might learn some more at work over the next few days :) I booked Thursday and Friday off work so I can get prepared Thursday and lay in bed in awe on Friday  :lol

OK, OK. Good advice there.. but what if I hid the lyrics sheet in the inside pocket of my anorak, along with the hamster and the dodgy postcards? No one would ever know..  :lol

:lol I'll leave it down to you dude.

You gonna come for a drink in the Argyll Arms beforehand? I guess a few of us will be there from late afternoon.

Logain Ablar

Yeah, I will hopefully make it there, although I'm not sure what time at. I'll be travelling over with the wife and kids - we're making a long weekend of it and doing the typical London touristy stuff - so I'll have to see what time I can get away.

You'd almost think I planned this weekend around the DT gig..

Dunno if I'm missing something, but why would you need 100% of the lyrics memorised?

You definitely don't need to, and I won't be able to - I just want to be able to follow the story, and even sing along to my favourite parts if the mood takes me..  I could also be my OCD kicking in. :)

Two weeks is a pretty short time to pick up all the lyrics to an album of this length, that's for sure!

ariich

I'm rather hoping people near me don't sing along too much as it detracts a lot from the performance and at a seated gig I can't move elsewhere. :P

If I'm anywhere near you, feel free to tell me to shut up. You'll be doing a public service!  :lol

That's an interesting point actually - what do you think the "etiquette" will be? As it's seated, do you think folks will treat it more like a normal theatre performance, or do you think people will be standing up, "grooving" and singing along?

ariich

I honestly don't know. The last show was seated (and possibly the one before) but at Wembley Stadium, so definitely a gig atmosphere and lots of people stood. As this is a theatre, it might feel a bit weird to be stood throughout.

Logain Ablar

It will be cool to see what kind of vibe it is. I'm happy to stand or just stay seated and absorb everything. I wonder what the band would prefer to see, in terms of audience feedback?

I suspect the sitting/standing thing will be determined by whatever the guy in front does!  :lol

Gh101

Has anybody been emailed the Meet and Greet information yet?

"You only have three days, HAHAHAHAHA"

I'm in Row D, and I'll be standing throughout - even if I'm the only one!

Looks like somebody in Row E will be standing then as well!  :P

I'm Row G, seat 39, which seems to be on the JM side. Hopefully not too near the side of the stage.

Billzo

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that when the lights go down a lot of people are going to stand which will result in the whole stalls standing.

I'm in row G and I just don't think I could sit throughout an entire DT show. Even in a venue like this.

genome

When I saw them in Wolverhampton, there was a split down the middle of the hall to break up each row... when the band started the right side of the hall stood up and the left side stayed sat down  :rollin

Probably because some inconsiderate person near the front of the right side stood, so everyone else had no choice but to do the same. :P

So genome, were you on the right side or the left, that's the question!

genome

The right side! The left side slowly stood up by the end of The Enemy Inside, it must've looked weird to the band for a couple of minutes.

God I'm way back in Row T, luckily it's raked though.

It's 50/50 for me. Personally I wouldn't mind sitting and concentrating with the video and music, plus my mind starts to wander after just standing there for so long (wouldn't mind if we were jumping and being crazy but... just standing there?!!)

On the other hand, it's a bloody rock (opera) concert and sitting just isn't he done thing  ;D

Logain Ablar

I honestly don't mind either way. On one hand I'm thinking that I've paid good money for a good seat in a lovely venue, so it would be nice to actually plant my arse on it. On the other, I'm thinking a bit of standing, hand waving, dad-dancing (ok, maybe not ) may be a good way to show some audience feedback to the band.

Of course what this will boil down to is going full "sheep mode", and doing exactly what everyone else around me does. :lol

I guess we'll see, yes, we shall see..  :P

I'm row T as well I think (on the 19th), I don't think it's toooo far back.

For seated concerts, I do generally prefer people staying seated because otherwise it's unfair on those who are not really able to stand for 2-3 hours but have no choice over where to base themselves. At the last Wembley gig my parents were supposed to be sat with us, but couldn't see anything. In the end they asked a steward for help and he found them a spot up at the side, but they shouldn't have to be in that position.

With these theatre shows in particular, I think it would be a bit weird to stand. Nobody stands when watching a musical, for example.

ariich are you in the bar before the show? I don't know if you remember but I met you briefly before the 2014 show at Wembley - with a few others including a girl with a Dream Theater tattoo*. And a chap who was apparently Haken's old keyboardist?

*a lesser known Steig Larsson novel

ariich

I do indeed remember, and yes Faye (aka nightmare_cinema) and I might pop in for a drink beforehand.

And yeah that was my brother who is the original Haken keyboardist (and indeed currently working on a project with Rich Henshall and also Dan Briggs from BTBAM) - good memory! Sadly he can't make it this time though.

Ah yes, I had a good chat with him! I didn't realise he was your brother - nice one.

I'm going on my own on the 19th so would be good to meet up with some DTFers. I tried to find the old Wembley 2014 thread to see if anyone else who went then is going this time, but it looks like it's disappeared.  ???

I'll try not to spoil the setlist for you
