edit: I was able to fix my work schedule, I'm going :). Not the biggest Astonishing fan, but maybe it will convince me seeing it live.

RipperOwens

I have two great Loge tickets for sale for the 23th, sadly we can't make it :(
Loge Right, Row 1, seats 3 & 4.  €120 for the pair, but even that is negotiable.

Train of Naught

I've been really interested in this tour and this makes it even more interesting, but while I really like the album, I don't think it's worth it at this point. Already just booked my vacations and don't have enough money to spend it on something I'm not completely sold on   :-\

Really, really looking forward to seeing this, this evening! :azn:

Train of Naught

I already knew I wasn't going, but I can't do a meetup either, I'm not back in town until like 10-11 PM. I think by that time the concert is already over anyways.

Thierry

The new album is way heavier live fortunately. Intermission now. Sound is killer. Hope to have this one up at dime tomorrow at the latest.  :yarr

Oh...never mind.   :lol   He put a photo of the theater on Facebook a little while ago.

Why does it look in this picture like if you are sitting up top on the left you won't see anything? Illusion?

Fisheye lens messing with the angle?

Architeuthis

That venue looks terrible for anyone sitting to the far left or right. Maybe it's just an illusion.

After having heard TA I decided I wasn't going to see them in Carre. However, someone I know had a spare ticket that otherwise would become unused. Regardless of how I feel about TA, I went to the show hyped.

Man, that was boring and rigid. There a few cool pieces of music in there, but this was a complete overkill on similar-sounding musical and Disney stuff. LaBrie performed well and JP's A New Beginning solo was stunning.

The rest of the audience seemed to love it though.

So, having not liked the album you didn't like the show where the album was played in full?

Hold the phone...

ResultsMayVary

I didn't want to sound like a jerk Pixel, but that seems like it was the most likely outcome for you.

I know guys! And to be fair, the band played well so it wasn't a bad show by any means.

Still, I do disagree a bit, because in the past I've been to similar events where I didn't like the studio version, only to be 'proven wrong' by the live performance. Not this time, but that's okay. I can't say I didn't put enough effort into liking TA. Just not my thing, or so it seems.

Yeah fair play, and good that you had the chance to give it a chance, as it were.

I was just playing. Should've used the green text.  :lol

Now in the train back to Groningen, it was just amazing! I'll elaborate tomorrow.

Great gig tonight. Enjoyed it very much.

Was the mix/sound good from the beginning of the show?

Did they serve ice cream at intermission?  The London crowd were talking of ice cream at intermission.

Thierry

Listening to my recording now. Sound is excellent although it's very audible that James is really having a hard time singing these songs. His voice cracks now and then and he is all over the place during some songs.

bokkie

I found the mix to be horrible in the beginning. Totally ruined the first half hour, after which it became a little better. I heard a lot of people complaining at the break. Really liked the petrucci solo around the hour mark as did the whole audience and the song at the end about the new order. (didn't listen to the album in advance on purpose so can't be more specific). Not as great as the last time in the HMH but an ok show by DT standards.

Thierry

My recording is up on dime.

After the concert, on my way home, I listened to the concert in the car. James had a really bad night yesterday, he missed quite a few notes and was off key for a fair bit of the evening. I couldn't hear that inside the venue because the sound was quite loud.

It was nice to see this concert though, definately not up to par with my other Dream Theater experiences. I still have a ticket to the Bochum concert (front row), that I will sell for face value. I just can't justify going one more time, I don't like the new album enough to see it twice.

Billzo

The ice cream thing is gonna be different venue to venue. It's the venue that sells it for every show they have. DT are not touring ice cream retailers :lol

Agreed. Maybe give him a few more nights to acquaint himself better with the songs.

I really, really loved the show probably my favourite live show, tied with Muse.

Mangini was absolutely amazing, the album recording doesn't do him justice. His playing is very energetic and quite dymamic and he seemed to really enjoy himself. He was probably the most entertaining to watch. He was wearing this odd safety glasses?  ??? Is he scared of hitting his eyes with his drum sticks or something :p

Jordan en Petrucci played absolutely perfect and James did a really good job too, a few small mistakes but that's understandable and didn't take away from the experience. It is a shame he didn'd do the laugh and scream live  :lol Myung was very static and I didn's see him looking at the crowd once, he did play his part perfectly as far as I could hear.

The mix was quite balanced I think, I would have liked Myung a little louder at times perhaps. Also the visuals were quite nice and complemented the muic without being too distracting. The lights were annoyingly bright with the Nomac tracks, but that could have been on purpose. to make the contrast with the actual music bigger perhaps?

Dream Theater it was Astonishing.

I noticed the glasses too. From a distance they look like something you'd wear in a chemistry lab at school. But I reckon they are actual prescription glasses - you can see him in youtube videos wearing ordinary glasses, so perhaps he needs them to see what he's playing. Maybe these ones are just better at staying on for the duration of a live show..

DarkLord_Lalinc

I just checked out a couple of videos from youtube.

JLB sounds super subpar. I mean, he gave one of the best performances of his life on this album but in these three shows they've done so far he's not even close to getting somewhere close to the album versions. I hope that changes soon.

I hate to be an idiot but does anyone have any links ?  I looked but I must not be good at searching youtube because I didn't find any from this show.
