What is your favorite  song from their debut album?

A Fortune in Lies
Afterlife
The Killing Hand
Light Fuse and Get Away
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun
Only a Matter of Time
Status Seeker
YtseJam

This seems to be the fairest way to determine what everybody's favorite song is:
Vote on ALL of the songs from each album-and some "out-take" songs as well-and the have a "run-off" that MIGHT decide what the most popular song is!
So vote for your FAVORITE!!!

Light Fuse and Get Away favorite.

Popular #3 song-TYJ :police:

TheGreatPretender

Ytsejam, this time I voted for one that's actually the most popular, lol.
But my favorite is The Killing Hand.

chaossystem

You should always vote from your heart, not to go with the "majority."

TheGreatPretender

In my heart I know that Ytsejam is the most popular, haha.

chaossystem

I don't want to say which song I voted for, because I don't want to influence anybody, but I will say that I don't care if I'm the only one who voted for it!

bosk1

Since the poll question asked for which song I subjectively consider "best," that is how I voted, despite the confusing and potential contradiction with the thread title asking for the "most popular" instead of "best."

chaossystem

I changed it, so hopefully now the question is specific enough.

I was hoping that everyone would know, without having to be told, to select their own personal favorite.

Why does this have to be so difficult and complicated?

Because you were not clear in what you were looking for and used two different questions.  Is it really that hard to simply copy/paste the thread title into the poll so that you have the same question in both places instead of two different questions?  Why is that complicated?

Shouldn't all of this be in the polls/survivor section?

wolfking

Afterlife.

You really think that posting what you voted for would influence other people?

I think the poll is to determine the most popular, rather than asking what the most popular is. I think we're overanalyzing a basic poll though. I'm just voting for my favourite.

I went with Afterlife. AFIL and Ytse Jam aren't too far behind. The Killing Hand would be a contender if I was including the Marquee version, but I'm sticking to judging the studio tracks here.

What did you change?  The poll asks for "favorite" but the thread is titled "Most popular".

Also, this kind of thing is normally done in the Polls/Survivors section of the forum.

Also, there are already plans afoot for DT song contests/survivors/leagues to determine most popular song.  So I'm not sure what purpose this has.

"Most popular" and "Favourite" are completely separate concepts. Also, what's with all of these threads starting?

JiM-Xtreme

OAMOT for me. Fantastic lyrics, melodies and chord progressions throughout.

Surprised so many people like Afterlife that much, to be honest...

krands85

This is one of the 2 DT albums where I don't have a clear favourite. It tends to vary between The Killing Hand, Afterlife and A Fortune in Lies. My favourite version of any of the tracks is The Killing Hand from LATM so I'll just vote for that.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

I meant that it could be either a positive or a negative:

anyone who doesn't like me might vote against me out of spite-or-

...anyone who doesn't want to decide for themselves might agree with me just because it's easier.

But I WILL reveal my choices at a later time.

The "change" is that I told everyone to vote for their favorite.

These polls are ONLY about Dream Theater, and I put them on HERE so anyone who wants to participate will have an easier time finding them.

Are you serious?

Status Seeker. I don't understand the hate for it. I like album version but there is live version on YouTube with JLB and it made me love it.

GOOD idea.

I HAD considered doing this sort of thing but never got around to IT. I think to make it fairer in isolating the ALL time most favourite DT track, you'd HAVE had to give everyone TWO votes from each album. It would have sMOOthed things out.

7 people might all vote for a DIFFERENT song from I&W for instance, but they could all rank Metropolis as their second favourite. In THAT scenario Metropolis would be the most loved song from that ALBUM.

In the final poll I will include the top two or three songs from each album, IF they are within FIVE percentage points of each other. This has already happened a few times.
Obviously, if one track from an album is way out front as the favorite, like if "Metropolis" had twenty per cent of the I & W vote, and "Pull Me Under" had fifteen or less, (just using that as a fictitious example) then "Metropolis" should probably be the only song from I & W in the final poll. But if it's any closer than that, I'll include as many songs as I need to from each disc.

Dublagent66

My favorite is The Killing Hand, therefore it should be the most popular.  Or, is it the other way around?  :p

JayOctavarium

Killing Hand.

I am surprised for all the love for OAMOT

chaossystem

I'm surprised "A Fortune in Lies" didn't get more votes!

AngelBack

Afterlife.

And why do all the posts started by chaossystem make me feel tired after reading thru....?

puppyonacid

Because some of the posts contained in threads that this particular user starts or posts in are written in a very passive aggressive manner?

Could be that. Might not be that. But could be that.

It really feels like an album closer. The music builds up towards an epic finish, and by the time it's over, it feels complete. They took that sound and did everything they could with it.

I do cringe slightly at the vocals in this song, but the music saves it.
