For example, mine would be: Dream Theater is the LeBron James of progressive metal. Both are in their career prime, popularity wise. LeBron has won two championships in recent years and DT has been nominated for two Grammys. Both faced some adversity a few years earlier - LeBron for "The Decision" and DT with the Portnoy situation.

Dream Theater is to music as John Cazale (or perhaps Bruno Kirby) are to acting.  Unbelievably talented, probably not as well-known as they might be, but always making quality work that for better or worse flies just slightly under the radar.

I would liken DT with Kelly Slater ...although Kelly retired and came back he is 11 time world champion....for the last few years he has been at number two in the rankings and still manages some impressive heats with perfect 10 scores....he does not look to be slowing down and appears to just get better with age.


I think DT are the same  25+ years, great releases and great concerts they too do not appear to be slowing down.
