I would ask that you only vote if you are familiar with all of the LTE material.

I am only including instrumentals where the whole band played.

I am going with one DT and four LTE songs:

Erotomania
When the Water Breaks
Kindred Spirits
Freedom of Speech
Biaxident

Mosh

Hells Kitchen
Overture 1928
The Dance
Stream of Consciousness
When the Water Breaks

I enjoy both LTE albums a lot, they're really fun to listen to. But there aren't really any songs on there that I'll go out of my way to listen to outside of the albums.

BlobVanDam

Of the ones listed, I'd probably go with (in no particular order)-

Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928
Stream of Consciousness
Paradigm Shift
Universal Mind

But my favourite DT instrumental track of all would be SDOIT Overture. These days I generally prefer the more structured and composed approach of DT over the jammy LTE style.

wasteland

Where is Eve?  :blush

Anyways, in order of preference:

When The Water Breaks (LTE's best song and one of my favourite songs ever)
Hell's Kitchen
Paradigm Shift
Universal Mind
Stream Of Consciousness

Well there's your problem, it's already the 6th here. Otherwise we would have 100% agreed!

Gotta admit that this was harder for me to choose than I thought. I too went with 1 DT song and 4 LTE songs. Swap out Universal Mind for Kindred Spirits, and Another Dimension for Biaxident and you've got my 5 choices!   :)  Personally, I'm not super big on the instrumentals on the LTE albums that are pretty much just improvised jams - I prefer the tracks that they actually composed.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Those two just barely missed the cut for me, along with Hell's Kitchen.

BRGM

There's alot of great music in this poll but my top 5 would be somewhat like

1. When the Water Breaks (Probably the greatest instrumental song I've ever heard.)
2. Stream of consciousness
3. Hell's Kitchen
4. Universal Mind
5. The Dance of Eternity

But the last 3 could easily change overnight.

Scorpion

Erotomania, Kindred Spirits, Biaxident, When the Water Breaks. My fifth vote would go to Eve, were it present.

Zook

I chose the first 5 DT songs because I never got into LTE.

Tom Bombadil

In this order:
Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928
Erotomania
Kindred Spirits
Ytse Jam

Eve would be on here if it was an option.
Kindred Spirits is probably the only LTE song I like. A few others are entertaining but mostly it just sounds like a bunch if noodling.

Zyzzyva17

1. When the Water Breaks
2. Stream of Consciousness
3. The Dance of Eternity
4. Biaxident
5. Kindred Spirits

Ytse Jam and Another Dimension were close contenders.

ReaPsTA

Voted Ytsejam, Erotomania, Hell's Kitchen, Dance of Eternity, and Stream of Consciousness.  Eve might have made it if I could have voted for it.  I also seriously considered Another Dimension and Kindred Spirits.

The thing with LTE for me is, while I like it, each song is more a jam than a real song.  Even something as loosely structured as Erotomania or TDOE has a fast pace and sections that transition into each other strongly.  LTE has just a few more extended solo sections and riff-o-ramas than I normally like.

SuperProgBros

Ytse jam
The Dance Of Eternity
Stream Of Consciousness

Universal Mind
Three Minute Warning

No order;

Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928
The Dance of Eternity
Acid Rain

I disagree with this.  The vast majority of LTE songs sound like well-crafted and well-flowing instrumentals.

And the songs that do sound like jams are great, too.  What's wrong with a jam?  Three Minute Warning, for what it is, is pretty damn great, for example.

SuperTaco

It was tough to pick only 5. I'm a huge LTE fan.

Hell's Kitchen
Stream Of Consciousness
Paradigm Shift
Universal Mind
When The Water Breaks (my #1 choice)

Three Minute Warning is fantastic.  But I haven't listened to it in at least a year.

Mebert78

"Eve" would be one of my top picks.  Can that be added as an option?

Eve would be here but for the poll Erotomania

JLa

When the Water Breaks
This introduced me to LTE, then DT and prog in general. I absolutely love this song, if I was stranded on a lonely island and could listen to only one song for the rest of my life, this would be it.  :heart

Erotomania
And this was the first DT song that truly "clicked" with me. Great song.

Biaxident
Back to LTE2. I listened to WTWB first because a friend told me to. I remember sitting there thinking ohmygodohmygodthisstuffisgreat, and when the song finally ended I randomly skipped to this track. Yet another ohmygodohmygodohmygod moment. I knew I HAD to get this cd.

Acid Rain
See above. I listened to this after Biaxident.

Kindred Spirits
The first LTE has its moments too.

Jamesman42

Hell's Kitchen

#32
Paradigm Shift
Universal Mind
Biaxident
Kindred Spirits
Acid Rain

LTE stuff is definitely my favourites, they never seem to get old. (A flaw some DT stuff suffers from, possibly due to my personal overconsumption of them :P)

Dublagent66

My list is in the order they appear in the poll.  It's not an indication of how I rank the 5 choices amongst themselves.

Erotomania
The Dance of Eternity
Kindred Spirits
Acid Rain
When The Water Breaks

Meatrose

I voted for (in no particular order):

Kindred Spirits
Freedom of Speech
Universal Mind
Overture 1928
Erotomania
