Favorite part of SDOIT?

I: Overture
II: About To Crash
III: War Inside My Head
IV: The Test That Stumped Them All
V: Goodknight Kiss
VI: Solitary Shell
VII: About To Crash (Reprise)
VIII: Losing Time/Grand Finale

Another poll! But something I am also genuinely curious about; what's everyone's favorite part from Six Degrees? Or favorite song, however you look at the second disc. I know it's hard for me to just pick one, so if you really had to choose...

Tough decision between About To Crash, Goodnight Kiss, and Solitary Shell. All of those parts are very beautiful. The solos on each are fantastic, but the beautiful soloing in Solitary Shell stands out. About To Crash has great progressions and melodies, and Goodnight Kiss is overall very pretty yet haunting  ;D

But if I had to decide, I would go with About To Crash. What's everyone else think?

It's hard for me to choose, because I've only ever listened to it as a whole song, so it all has its place.

For the sake of the poll, I went with Solitary Shell, because it's such a beautiful, catchy ballad, with standout guitar and piano solos. I could just have easily gone with almost any other part though. :tup

Raise the Drum

I just love ATC and its reprise. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy all the song (or album) and most of the time i listen the whole thing instead of doing it track by track.
But if i'm short of time and i have to choose one track, i prefer listen to about to crash (reprise). I really like the way they merge all the album themes in one section, they manage to build one of the greatest DT's climax. Its simply awesome.

About To Crash, but I almost went for Solitary Shell.

My sentiments exactly.  In addition, it feels like the SS part of the song was written about me.

About To Crash
Losing Time / Grand Finale
About To Crash Reprise
The Test That Stumped Them All
Solitary Shell
War Inside My Head
Overture
Goodnight Kiss

Overture used to be my least favourite by far, but it has grown on me quite a but, as has Losing Time / Grand Finale. About To Crash is my #1, no doubt. It's absolutely beautiful.

About to Crash (Reprise).
Definitely this. Love JR's keyboard work in the 2nd half of the song.

Agree, JR makes this one of my most chill inducing DT moments.  Still blows me away after hundreds of listens.  To say SDOIT has aged well is a huge understatement.

The run from that second half of "Goodnight Kiss" to the beginning of "Losing Time".

If I had to pick a single track, I'd take "About to crash (Reprise)".

jakepriest

Losing Time, but About To Crash is a close second.

ThatOneGuy2112

I would have gone with Solitary Shell, but the instrumental section for ATC (Reprise) is just too phenomenal, so the latter gets my vote.

Lucidity

Solitary Shell, with Overture and Goodnight Kiss very close behind.

The Holy Tune

Difficult choice. War Inside My Head is so short, yet the power it has is very intriguing. About to Crash (Reprise) is also a great piece. But I think I'll go against the tide and pick WIMH

Now I'm remembering how great ATC(reprise) is  :-X the instrumental section is so good in that part!

DarkLord_Lalinc

About to Crash (Reprise). So rocking. Much energy. Power.

Whoever voted for Overture is my new best friend.

mikeyd23

SS... Tough call though, I usually listen to it as one continuous piece.

Podaar

I had to go with Solitary Shell for the simple awesomeness that is JLB's delivery of "...but in every other way he was fine!" :heart  :hefdaddy

OK, I guess I'll have to go with About To Crash (Reprise) because that riff.

I picked "Solitary Shell" but sometimes "About to Crash (Reprise)" sounds like the best track...I don't know, man, it depends on my mood too.  I really love the whole "War Inside My Head / Test That Stumped The All" section too

The Letter M

"Solitary Shell" was, is, and always will be my favorite movement of "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence". Both "About To Crash" parts would come next, followed by "Goodnight Kiss". The remaining four movements all tie at the bottom for last, but they're all good in their own way.

Didn't even consider Overture because it's more part of the greater whole and serves as an intro rather than a stand alone piece. But now I see it's vastly underrepresented, or at least underappreciated relative to the rest of the piece. That Overture blew my mind hearing rock instruments playing something reminiscent of classical orchestral music. It's got some amazing progressions in there aswell. A true testament and representation of JRs early genius in DT.
