Now that Space-Dye Vest and The Shattered Fortress have vanished from the list of "never been played" to join the ranks of "been played plenty," what song do you really want for the next tour?

For me, this is easy: Disappear. Six Degrees hasn't gotten a whole lot of love in the Mangini live era, with only the been-played-plenty-of-times-in-the-past-decade The Great Debate and War Inside My Head/Test That Stumped Them All played during the first tour, and no tracks on the current tour. Disappear, on the other hand, has only been played twice in their whole history and IIRC (correct me if I'm wrong) it was specifically decided by Mike Portnoy to be "that song they never played live" (baffling given they already had that with Space-Dye). Now that SDV's seen its time in the sun, I'd love for this equally haunting ballad, possibly my favorite ballad of DT, show up on the setlist. I know a lot of people are clamoring for The Glass Prison, and trust me I wouldn't complain at all if that showed up, but I'd love to hear Disappear live. Hell, given the most recent tour's tendency to do "chunks" of albums, I would love it if a portion of the set was devoted to doing Disc 1 of Six Degrees in order! (Maybe for 2017, Six Degrees' 15th anniversary.)

For a runner up, I'd be pleased as punch if any of the more recent DT12 songs not on the current tour showed up (The Bigger Picture, Behind the Veil, Surrender to Reason). They might show up on the later part of this tour, as This Is the Life/Lost Not Forgotten did, but I dunno, I was kinda disappointed that they did all of ADoTE during that album's tour. Save some goodies for next time! And given that TBP and StR are my two favorite songs on the album, I'd mark out seeing them pop up next time.

But that's just me. What are your choices?

mike099

I would love to see Blind Faith in concert followed by Behind the Veil as a first or second set opener.  Of course since I have not yet seen DT in concert anything would be great except Anna Lee. ;D

TGP is number one for me. I'm astounded they didn't finally do it this tour. Disappear and Misunderstood would also be great.

Just play the first three songs from 6DOIT back-to-back-to-back.  I think this forum would collectively gush if that were to happen. :lol :lol

I get why they went with The Shattered Fortress. It was repentance (heh) for no Black Clouds on the Dramatic Tour (same with FII and Trial of Tears), it was another song that was never played live, and since it's the only song from 6DoIT-BC&SL on the tour, it makes up for that by having themes, melodies or homages to songs from all of the albums of that period.

That said, I would love a return of The Glass Prison and indeed, more songs from that time period (if DT13 has no 20 minute epic and yet is another Evening With, can we please have Octavarium?).

QuoteDisappear and Misunderstood would also be great.

Yeah, Misunderstood's another favorite (love that outro). As I said, we may have to wait til 2017 for justification to do it (or just do it next tour for the helluva it  ), but a set of Disc 1 of 6DoIT would be astounding, even if it would be 50 minutes of a set list.

Hell, each of the replies (so far) have all chosen at least one track from Disc 1 of it so I definitely think if they were to do that, there'd be enough variety in those five songs to justify it.

Oh man, dream come true.  TGP and BF must both be in my top 10.

Something from Majesty demos......or, just to be more realistic: TGP

lonestar

I've seen most of the tunes mentioned, though another dose of TGP is always welcome, as is BF. What I would love to see would be The Bigger Picture. And they can play BAI in every tour from now on, such a great live song.

They actually surprised me with quite a few songs on the last three concerts I saw, particularly with Peruvian skies, The Great debate, 6:00, Lifting shadows off a dream, Scarred and Space-dye vest. There are still many rarely played songs that I'd really love to see, though. But if I have to pick only one, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say The Ministry of lost souls. Easily.

My biggest hope is that they play either ACOS, ITNOG, or 8vm as an encore. After this tour's 30 minute encore, the length wouldn't be an issue. In terms of main set songs that I really want to see, Lines in the Sand, Blind Faith, and Take the Time. (Note that my first DT show was in the ADTOE tour, so there's a lot I haven't heard live.)

Don't Look Past Me.
Oh yes...

I'd love to see ACOS, but JP said the +20-minute songs are too long to be played so I doubt it'll happen. Disappear would be nice, because that song has grown a lot on me recently and to be brutally honest I think MP's attitude towards that song ("we need to have a song that has been played only once") was absolutely stupid. It could take SDV's place in the set as a little breather before the closer and the encore.

Hasn't Disappear been played twice?

?

Yes, but MP's plan was to play it just at the show where they had Eugene Friesen playing cello on a few songs. Then they decided to film a DVD at the Budokan and MP wanted Disappear to appear on it.

Yep, agreeing with Don't Look Past Me. They've never played it before cos of all the backing vocals, would need one hell of a backing vocalist. Since they're playing to a click and adding tracks, now they can! And must. It's utterly brilliant, and it's a travesty it never reached an album.

This is pretty much my wish.

I'd also like to see TGD, Disappear, or some of the DT12 songs that weren't played this time around. I've only seen them once (in KC this year) so there are a lot of things I want to see in concert.

Dream Team

TheAtliator

Octavarium.

Then Blind Faith, The Killing Hand, Light Fuse and Get Away, TOWHTSTS, Outcry, This Dying Soul, In The Presence of Enemies, Another Won.

I was INCREDIBLY satisfied by getting a LOT of my hopes already with TSF, tM/L, LSOAD, Sc, SDV, and FF.

DebraKadabra

THE GLASS PRISON

I've never seen it live.  Same with Octavarium, but I highly doubt that will make a setlist any time in the future.  Though I dearly love Octavarium, TGP is more realistic.

My favorites that I've never seen live are Learning To Live and The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun, so those. But also fucking Lines In The Sand!

TheAtliator

they can play 30 minutes of SFAM and 40 of Awake... They can play a 24 minute song.

DebraKadabra

... in an Evening With format.

There's nothing that has been said that they plan to continue that in the future.

I'd love to hear Through Her Eyes....has that even been played since the Metropolis 2000 tour??

Octavarium and A Change Of Seasons would be fantastic as well.

I think that applied to the ADTOE tour where he probably didn't want to spend 20 minutes on a single "old" song when they were only playing for a little over two hours.  But with the three hour shows back, they can do it.  If there is a 20-minute plus song on the next album, it will obviously get played, but if not, they could bring one of the older ones back.  My bet would be on The Count of Tuscany, since that hasn't been on a live DVD yet, and needs to be.

As much as I want to see In The Name Of God, Octavarium, A Change of Seasons, hell even In the Presence of Enemies would be pretty sweet to see in it's entirety. But If they're gonna take time to play a long piece, just make it The Count of Tuscany and be done with it. Even if it was the 'epic' they played in my country last time, I'd be happy to see it in a setlist again just to get official footage (and of the video variety preferably).

Other than that, I trust DT knows what they're doing and that next tour they'll come up with something that has it's own spice of variety and be somewhat contrasting to the songs they chose recently. There's old stuff I bet they're dying to play too, but it can be hard to tell who likes which songs in the band. Either way, I would certainly encourage playing more obscure songs like unplayed B sides, or lesser played tracks over the years. I did enjoy how MP tried to fit in the wide range of music that DT has and let almost everything have a chance to be played, but I didn't so much like singling out particular songs to not be allowed on the setlists (although there was obviously always a reason for it, and they're the ones playing the songs so that's fair enough).

+1 and The Killing Hand & LFAGA.

Yes! Possibly the 2 best parts of WDADU.

TheGreatPretender

I'm gonna say Metropolis. Last year I saw Fatal Tragedy and Forsaken, this year I saw Lie and The Dance of Eternity. There are a few others I really want to see in person in my livetime, but Metropolis is #1 on that list. I just have to see it once and absorb it in person, and then they never have to play it again for all I care.

ITPOE1 is a close second.
