Yesterday, I just had this idea of making a playlist out of the current AFTR tour set list. Wow, what a good collection of songs. The balance between short and long tracks is just right. And it sounds contemporary also. The sequencing is also good.

I think I would use this play list to introduce a young newbie to DT. It would be a primer, and if he likes it, I would then give Images and Words. :p

What set list in other DT tours would make a good play list?

I did this one day after concert I attended to play it to my girlfriend after I explained to her how awesome the show was and how much I enjoyed it

I even cut out the Illumination Theory outro and put it at the end of the setlist and I cut out the ending samples in Finally Free and faded out the ending.

What I also did few weeks later was that I reconstructed full live setlists of the two shows I attended on ADTOE tour since all the live version from that exact tour are available. The setlist from first show was more interesting to listen to because the setlist from second show contained majority of songs from LALP so I could rarther listen to full LALP instead.

Nice! For me, I am doing this because DT will never come to my country. So attending a DT concert would really be just in my imagination.  :(

I've actually done this MANY times over during the first year of so I got into DT. I would go to Mike Portnoys touragraphy and make playlists of random show setlists I liked. I've even made studio versions of DTs live albums. The only bad part about making THOSE playlists is the song flow. I've also made a playlist of the current set but have only listened to it once so I dont get tired of the songs.

As awesome as the current set is, i wish they had AT LEAST a B setlist like last tour to change it up a tad. Question for erwinrafael, which country do u live in?

I live in the Philippines. They had a stop last time in Indonesia, Singapore and I think even in Thailand. But no DT in the Philippines. I guess the fanbase here is not that large.

Have they toured the Phillippines before? I wouldn't underestimate the DT fanbase if I were you. We are everywhere!

They have not had a concert here. I've been waiting since the late 90s.

:( And I used to complain about living in Argentina... I still have to travel 1000km for a concert though.

I used to make pretend setlists out of studio songs, but I can't find any of them right now, I made a Falling Into Infinity era which I thought was pretty good to introduce a new fan, if I find them I'll post it. Sometimes I even made out some experiments like The Mirror - Honor Thy Father - Lie(starting right after "Don't cross the crooked step") which I believe never was done live. Others were Beyond This Life - Misunderstood(the acoustic outro with the intro fits nicely), Scarred -> Lines in the Sand, Eve -> Trial of Tears. Oh, and I found out that 6:00 fits very well as a second/third song whatever the opener is :P.

I once made a playlist out of the 60 different songs the band performed in the TOT tour, using the various bootleg as a source. I am still proud of it and still listen to bits of it from time to time.

I did this immediately after the opening night of the tour. I listen to it occassionally. Yeah, it means that the upcoming show will have no surprises, but it is a very cohesive listen.

I have done this with a few other bands. On the topic, The Clash's "Hit Back" CD has its tracklist based on this exact concept. The first group of songs uses a setlist from a specific show in the exact order, and then fills in disc two with some additional hits. I thought it was an interesting way to sell a "Greatest Hits" package...

Try One Last Time -> Anna Lee -> The Spirit Carries On.
