I don't know if I'm the only idiot, but I just figured out that in the end of IT, the line is: "Know that you're alive" and not "Know the joy in life".

Cause, man, it sounds like the 2nd one.
Anyone else heard the 2nd one?

I always thought it sounded like "that you're alive." Never heard "joy in life" until I saw it on some lyrics site and went "..What?"

Luckily looking at the album booklet I was relieved to find that it was "you're alive."

Imo it is the better lyric of the two.

So true! I love James, but that clearly isn't one of his strenghts. On an off topic, on The Looking Glass I thought he said "You're diggin up a coma" and went WAT? The I saw the lyrics and "Ohhhh, that makes more sense".

By not being a native english speaker with some hearing problems I guess . I always have trouble with lyrics anyway, for any band, years of english studying haven't changed that.

This reminds me of something Ozzy Osbourne said about an interview, where the interviewer was making a point about the negative influence of the music, with the lyric of "I tell you to end your life". Being puzzled by the lyric, Ozzy thought it through and realized he was referring to the line in the song Paranoid that is actually "I tell you to ENJOY life". Bit of a different meaning.

Ah yeah, I never thought about the phrasing, but that does make it fit better with the incorrect lyric better. I've never noticed it until you pointed it out, but it is slightly awkward phrasing. It's not WDADU bad though.

I don't know if anyone else thinks this, but The verse where that line is from  isn't very good.. Don't like the lyrics and vocal  melodies (If there even is any melody in them)

First of all, he says "to really feel the joy in life" in the beggining of this movement. So it's not that hard to believe that this phrase would be repeated at the end of the section.
And also it does sounds similiar. "KNOW THATYOUR (=Know the joy) ALIVE (=in life)". Especially when JLB prenounces the "Alive" somewhat like "Ilive".
