Scenes from a memory or Awake on this tour?

Well, idk if someone posted this already, but 15 years ago, scenes from a memory makes his debut. Also "awake" makes his debut but 20 years ago. Both of them are very important records for Dream Theater and for the community, so, what album should be played in this tour? if they decide to put an anniversary concert on the tour of course...

Zydar

Awake, I guess. I prefer SFAM as an album but we have LSFNY for that.

?

Awake, because it's my favorite album and hasn't been played in full yet.

puppyonacid

Do a mash up! It's the only option. Awake from a Memory.

They could do something like that though with highlights from both albums.

KevShmev

Neither.

Granted, I love both album to pieces, but celebrating anniversaries like this is a silly idea, since nearly every tour is gonna be the anniversary of something.

On one hand, they've already recorded the ultimate performance of SFAM with LSFNY/Metropolis 2000, but on the other hand I don't want to hear Awake in its entirety. Tough call.  Objectively, I guess Awake just because they haven't done it, but it pains me to even say that. :lol

I'd prefer Scenes, but they have played that in full quite a few times.

And a 20th anniversary is a bigger one than 15 years, I'd say - so if they were going to do one, I'd say Awake would make the most sense.

As SFAM is my favourite DT album, I would love to see them play it in full. But I still prefer a balanced setlist that covers their entire catalogue with some classic songs that are underplayed.

I also hope they will do some special stuff (acoustic versions, material from other projects like instrumedley, guest musicians etc.) but I don't expect that to happen. But as I think the new album is great, I can already expect some awesome live debuts this tour :)

Never saw an evening with show in person tough, so I am really looking forward to the concert!

If the tour extends through October (which I don't think it will), I can see the band performing one or two extra songs from both albums on those nights closest to the anniversary. But there is absolutely no way they are going to trash their standard set to make room for a full album unless it's on a second night or something. That's not their MO these days.

Of course I would love to see Awake performed in full, I'm just trying to be realistic.

I agree. Simar to how they treated I&W in Austin.

JiM-Xtreme

Neither. Just give me a balanced couple of setlists with plenty of variety and I'll be happy.

Shadow2222

I don't think Scenes from a Memory will pop up (in full) again unless they decide to do a throwback tour featuring the full album every night, and even though we are 15 years from release, I still think it will be another 5 to 10 years before we see that ever happen (if it even does), as they are still releasing albums on a consistent schedule.

jakepriest

I think I've read in an interview that they don't plan to play SFAM from start to finish again.

hefdaddy42

As an every-night thing?  Neither.

As a one-time event, or here and there occasionally throughout the tour?  Awake.

When Dream And Day Unite, 25 years is a big deal.

Syzzle

They're playing a lot of songs from both albums so I guess we have our answer.

Rodni Demental

I think it's great they're celebrating the anniversaries!  :metal

I also think it's a great way for them to focus on different material every once in a while and go back to certain things. Hope to see more of it in the future.  ;D
