Overture (SDOIT)

Of course, this thread has been done before, but as far as I can tell, it's been a while.  So now that we've had ample time for DT12 to sink in, what's your favorite DT instrumental?

Feel free to post your instrumental listings, as well.  Mine is ever-changing, so currently it is:

Stream of Consciousness
Erotomania
Hell's Kitchen
Enigma Machine
Overture (SDOIT)
Overture 1928
The Dance of Eternity
Ytse Jam
False Awakening Suite
Raw Dog

I don't own Eve and therefore cannot make a fair judgment as to its placement.

So much love for Overture 1928, but really it's only "half" a piece. My vote has to go to Hell's Kitchen. It's one of FII's saving graces and one of the most beautiful pieces of music the band has produced. So grateful to Kevin Shirley for persuading the guys to separate it from BMS!

I went ahead and added SDOIT's Overture, because why not? Yes, it is only part of a song, but I'm curious to see where people place it.

TheGreatPretender

Mine will likely not change, aside from including any new instrumentals that the band releases. But here's the ranking.

The Dance of Eternity
Enigma Machine
Overture 1928
False Awakening Suite
Stream Of Consciousness

Hell's Kitchen
Six Degrees Overture
Ytsejam

Erotomania
Raw Dog

The Stray Seed

Hell's Kitchen. Second choice would be Erotomania.

Stream of Consciousness is fantastic. The LAB version is one of my favorite DT songs to listen to.

DarkLord_Lalinc

yo dawg I heard you liked raw dawg so I put raw in your dawg so you can be like "yo dawg" while you listen to raw dawg

My favorite is Stream of Consciousness. Such a strong composition.

Not too long ago it was done.  ;)

Eh, that's okay.  Almost everything, other than new song discussion right after the new songs come out, has been done before, so it's okay.

For me, answering my favorite is easy.  I think it still has to be SoC.  Just so many great moments.  But trying to rank them all is difficult.  There are a few I just don't like very much.  And there are others that I like just fine, but don't really function as complete, standalone songs, so they don't feel like they should rank very highly when considered out of context.

1. Stream Of Consciousness

2. Hell's Kitchen
3. The Dance of Eternity

4. Overture 1928
5. Overture (SDOIT)
6. Erotomania
7. Enigma Machine

8. Ytse Jam
9. Raw Dog

I don't consider FAS a song and I've heard Eve like once.

Crow

mmk good the three best instrumentals are the ones with all the votes.
I chose Hell's Kitchen but it's only just a little bit better than SoC so I can't complain.
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

Awesome:
Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928
Eve

Good:
Ytse Jam
Erotomania

Dislike:
SOC
Dance of Eternity
Enigma Machine
Overture
False Awakening Suite
Raw Dog

Still Eve.

But Hell's Kitchen and FAS are spectacular too!

son_ov_hades

The Dance Of Eternity is my favorite instrumental ever by anyone. But Ytse Jam is a close second.

1. Stream of Consciousness
2. Erotomania
3. Overture 1928
4. Overture (SDOIT)
5. The Dance of Eternity
6. Enigma Machine
7. Eve
8. Hell's Kitchen
9. False Awakening Suite
10. Ytse Jam

11. Raw Dog

That really was tough for me (aside from the obvious #11 I guess :lol)

I don't dislike any of them. HK could almost be on par with TDOE, for example.

Stream Of Consciousness is solid!   With Vacant it creates the best DT two-song-run!

Awesome:
Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928
Eve

Good:
Ytse Jam
Erotomania

Dislike:
SOC
Dance of Eternity
Enigma Machine
Overture
False Awakening Suite

My ranking is different, but the tiers are a bit similar to how I would put them:

Amazing:
Eve
Hell's Kitchen
Overture 1928

Great:
Erotomania
Ytse Jam

Alright but not remarkable:
SOC
Overture
Dance of Eternity
False Awakening Suite

Weak:
Enigma Machine
Raw Dog

Rodni Demental

I voted Eve because  :heart

But I think False Awakening Suite seems under appreciated, I think it's completely epic and explores a lot of ground very quickly. Also Overture for Six Degrees is one of my favourites, that orchestral arrangement with rock instruments really stood out to me as something special when I first heard that album.

Onno

Probably something like:

Stream of Consciousness
Hell's Kitchen
Erotomania
Eve
Overture 1928
The Dance of Eternity
Overture
Ytse Jam

Raw Dog
False Awakening Suite
Enigma Machine

nikatapi

Overture 1928 is probably my favorite, maybe because it was one of the first DT songs i learned to play on the guitar.
Hell's Kitchen is up there though, i wish DT made something as experimental as this.

Worst is probably Enigma Machine, even worse than Raw Dog in my opinion.

wolfking

Overture 1928.

I seriously can't beleive SOC is winning.

mikeyd23

Guess I'm in the minority here but I have to go with The Dance of Eternity.  That wasn't an easy choice though!

This. I like the song and it flows excellently coming right after Vacant, but it's boring. Love the riff, some great solos, but overall it's way too long.

My rankings:

The Dance of Eternity
Overture 1928
Hell's Kitchen
Overture SDOIT
Enigma Machine
Ytsejam
Eve
Erotomania
False Awakening Suite
Stream of Consciousness
Raw Dog (but I'm one of the few that actually like the song. It's a fun listen.)

It was tough to choose between DOE and SOC.
