And then right after, the most disturbing section in any Dream Theater song piece of music ever.

You sir, are a genius.

On topic: it's an amazing solo but I wouldn't call it my favourite section on SDOIT.

TAC

"So I'm moving on
I'll never forget
As you lay there and watch me
Accepting the end
I knew you were scared
You were strong I was trying
I gave you my hand
I said it's okay letting go time to leave here
And I'll carry on
The best that I can without you here beside me
Let him come take you home"
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Dudes, the outro! The section with the creepy heartbeat thing, and the maniacal laughter of those bastard baby-murdering doctors!

Oh yes, now THAT certainly comes close to being the best section on SDOIT.

Oh! Well I count that as part of the GK solo. The solo ends when GK ends.

I love the ending of The Glass Prison. Losing Time is also great.

wolfking

The 'still life pushes on' section of Blind Faith.

There are so many!
Glass Prison arps
Blind Faith unison
Disappear last verse
Goodnight Kiss solo

But my favorite is JR's Solitary Shell piano solo. It has such a great vibe.

Definitely a strong contender. :hefdaddy I also like how the backing vocals are ahead of main vocals here.

That solo is beautiful and perfect.  I rewind it at least three or four times before moving on to the next song.

"Playing a lion being led to a cage
I turn from a thief to a beggar
From god to God save me

How can I feel abandoned even when the world surrounds me?
How can I bite the hand that feeds the strangers all around me?
How can I know so many never really knowing anyone?
If I seem superhuman I have been misunderstood"

I seriously thought I would be alone with my opinion.  Good to see.   That's always been one of my fav DT sections in general.  It's incredible.

While writing my reply I realized I have too many sections I love of SDOIT... Just watching the whole thing on Score is extremely satisfying to me

Meatrose

That's an easy one for me - the instrumental section of Blind Faith.

mikeyd23

Way to many good sections on SDOIT to name them all! A few jump out off the top of my head:

1. The instrumental section of Blind Faith

2. Vocal section of Disappear at 4:28 (mentioned already several times)

3. Intro of About to Crash (piano then the band entering)

4. Guitar solo of Goodnight Kiss

5. Solitary Shell instrumental section (especially that piano solo)

6. Intro of About to Crash (Reprise) (great riff, one of my favorite JP guitar tones EVER)

That. And MP's solo section later on in that one.

For me it's definitely Losing Time. Always brings a tear to my eye when I hear the chorus. Too bad the ending of the "double" song is pretty meh.
