How much would a Berklee teaching salary compare to a DT drummer salary?

The same way as if you are self-employed in any other profession.

Oh. I figured as much. Just wasn't sure if they were maybe employed by the redord label and got benefits through them.

I would suspect that band members (that have been in it for a long time) probably make the equivalent of close to six figures per year with JP probably taking more money wearing the producers hat and someone like James probably making the least when you figure he probably gets the least from publishing royalties.

Mike Mangini probably makes less but once he starts getting more royalties it'll start to even out.

If that link was to be believed about the 42k a year (it is hard for me to fathom, especially with the cost of living in Boston), then MM definitely makes more now that he is in the band.

Well, a publication for Berkley cites full-time, tenure track professors of music as getting around 42k per year. Ouch! Can you even make rent on that? Source: https://www.berklee.edu/sites/default/files/2010_Music-Salary_Guide.pdf

That said, not sure what Mangini's status was. If he were in that category, then I'd imagine being in DT could be a sizeable payraise. If he were tenured, though, I could see the number cited above doubling. So who knows?

While Berklee will probably be at the top end of teacher salaries (since it's also at the top end of tuitions), but yeah, even considering that you better love your job, because you won't have a lot of dispensable income. A friend of mine is a vocal teacher at Berklee, and she has a wedding band on the side to bring in more money.

Wow, that is lower than I would have thought for Berklee considering their endowment, student body size, location and etc. Then again, my view of salary structure is based on non-exclusive universities and departments that may draw more outside money in. I would hope if it is at that number the facilities and programs are top notch, because something is not adding up.

I want to say MM was at least tenure track, if not tenured. I recall an interview he did when joining DT indicating that Berklee had a formula to determine tenured professors when they didn't have a doctorate, but professional experience only.
