Your failure to mention the keyboard solo at the end of Medicate as a key-part in the song rubs me the wrong way.
Intervals is the best part of Octavarium no doubt. I don't care much for Medicate(except for the solo).

I'm hoping for a controversial number one. You Not Me?  ;D

before number one, I have to say something...

New song to enter in the top 50.. Beneath The Surface (from A Dramatic Turn Of Events, 2011)
Never cared for this song, until one day...

i started caring.  :D

Luna Park really made me love this song. It's not officialy on THIS list, but it will be from now on, probably in the top 30.
DAT keyboard solo
DAT guitar arpeggio
DEM lyrics
DAT labrie

Also shouldn't your name be Mike Mantoy, mikemangioy?

why not mike portgini?

Ben_Jamin

I see you grouped the SFAM songs as Scenes, That's how I grouped mine as well.

Great list so far.

mikemangioy

anyways, i can tell you that my number one isn't pretty obvious.

The Stray Seed

mikemangioy

and none of you guessed right, except for viking...
yes
my favorite DT song is indeed...

YOUR MOM (Falling Into Pregnancy, 1999)

nah, I'm kidding

my favorite DT song is..

In The Name Of God (Train Of Thought, 2004)
This song is like 12 genres all in one. Think about it, we have everything here:

-the ballady stuff
-the epic stuff
-the heavy stuff
-techno stuff
-creepy stuff
-samba stuff
-lastnoteplayedbyjordanrudessnose stuff

gaah, ITNOG is just that good.
The song is packed with epic moments, like the chorus and the second verse, but the best part has to be from the breakdown onward.
When James gets angry in that part, you can hear him scream at the top of his lungs like he never did before  :o

Don't even get me started on the samba unison  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I love the way the song transitions back into the heavy riff:
DUN DUN DUN
DUDUDUN DUDUDUN
DUN DUN DUN
DUNDUN *eeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
BOOM  :metal

The finale gives me goosebumps all over the place.
Also, great lyrics.

So that's it! It was really fun writing for this, and I'll miss it very much. What do you think?

Evermind

I thought you said it would be unexpected.  :)

But actually, ITNOG is great.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Well, your list, your choice, but I really don't like this song.

Honestly, it's the only DT song I don't like.

usually I don't see ITNOG way high like this, that's why I said it.

After all the choices in your top 10 I didn't agree with this has really surprised me. Completely agree, if I did a top 50 this would definitely be in my top 3. ITNOG was the first DT song I ever fell in love with.

Great number one. I also love the screaming of JLB. I enjoy tge groove of the song.

Interesting list, Mike...
Not that I agree on everything (eg Peruvian Skies... well not even in the top 150... IMO), but most of it is a good starting point for further discussion....
makes me want to try to get my top 50, but being new here I don't know if I can dare... I would also need some time to think about it.
and anyway you were very good in giving your ground on each one - not that you convinced me 100%  but you went close hehehe :tup

mikemangioy

wow, you sure hate peruvian skies  :o well, whatever you think  ;)
thanks much!

There aren't even 150 songs  :rollin

Viking of the Sagas

Oh wow he's right.

I don't think there even are a hundred songs. More like 80.

jakepriest

I have the entire discography on my MP3 and it's about 110 songs if I remember right. Without the live releases.

Octavarious

Well, include some live instrumental, covers, and any other possible recording such as JLB singing under the shower, and get until 150. PS comes after! :rollin
No, that's too much, maybe the shower singing is slightly poorer! :omg:
You will know me, I love kidding... :hat
Anyway, Mike, all other 49 are absolutely fine, as I said very good starting point for my own list...

Actually yeah. With SDOIT counted in as 8 it's something like 110, without something like 100.

He was probably including songs like "John Thinks He's Yngwie Song" and "Mike Thinks He's Dee Dee Ramone Introducing A Song Song".

According to DoC's post in DT the league 2014 thread, there's somewhat like 110ish with SDOIT as one song.

By what I counted from their discography, it's around 100.
