This is especially interesting:

"Dream Theater's worldwide tour is set to start in early 2014. How are plans coming along? Have you built the setlists yet?

We have already been working on the tour for about a month now and there are all sorts of preparations in terms of design of the stage, video that will be using, and of course the setlist, which we've pretty much blocked out already. Given the reaction to the new album, we want to feature as much music from it as we can but we have so much material, at the same time, that we want to be careful not to leave some important things out. We want to pay tribute to some of our music that is coming up on an anniversary and we also want to play some things that we've never played before onstage. I think that if you're a longtime fan you will leave the show feeling really satisfied. But if you're new to the band, you'll also be drawn in by the variety of music you'll be hearing. This tour is unique for us because we'll be the only ones up there, it's simply an evening with Dream Theater. So our goal is to show people a really good time and give them the full-on Dream Theater experience".

Space Dye Vest falls under both those categories.   ;)

Implode

20th anniversary of awake & 15th Anniversary of Scenes ?

Mladen

He's talking about playing stuff they've never played before - is it possible he's just thinking of the songs from the new album?  ;D

Anyway, I have a feeling this will be a very special tour, whatever they play. It's still too far away for me to make plans, though...

emtee

I would be SO stoked if they gave Awake a big nod on this tour.

jdprsaga

fuuuuuuuuuuuu... it could only mean space-dye vest i think..  :omg:   :hefdaddy

I thought THIS was the 10th for TOT.  Not next year, when they will be touring.

Besides, it seems like they've played that to death, minus a couple of songs.

Yes, yes it does!

I would love to hear lots of Awake on the next tour. Nothing would make me happier.

Just after I post such an awesome response in the Concerts and Setlists thread I see that there's a livelier discussion here..  :P

Or maybe A Mind Beside Itself in its entirety.   :tup

Personally, I would be bored to death if they took up such a big portion of the set with those three songs.

Those tracks have been pretty much covered over the last couple of tours.

Yeah, although not together. That being said, if they were to choose 3 songs from Awake to pay tribute, I would pick:

The Mirror
Space-Dye Vest (if not, Lie continued from TM)
Scarred

I hear you, it's always the way that people don't bother looking at the C&S forum, so I thought I'd post it here too.

TheAtliator

Ok I'll admit I didn't use to check the other forums... But then I got sucked in to those too and I'm glad of it  :D haha

fadetoblackdude7

Maybe I'll finally get my chance to hear Lifting Shadows Off A Dream. It's been on my must-hear list for quite some time now.

If they're doing the Awake anniversary, I don't see a way for them to not include Scarred. It's the epic of that album and JLB regularly lists it among his favorite DT songs.

And I really hope that never played before actually is Space-Dye Vest. Though I think the reactions would be hilarious if it turned out to be You Or Me. Or Raw Dog. Except I'd actually like them to play You Or Me.

I *believe* Disappear has been officially retired because it's too emotional for JLB. Which is not a retirement that can be credited to MP's thing about not playing songs associated with former band members.

Tom Bombadil

I love Space-Dye Vest, its my 2nd favorite DT song ever, but I'm not sure it would work so well as a live song. I listened to that one live recording of it and it didn't do anything for me. I think I'd prefer other Awake songs to be in the tour- like the Mirror, Voices, and Scarred.

I thought they have actually played You Or Me? They did play You Not Me a couple times, but I seem to recall YOM being played as well.

It doesn't come up in MP's tourography. Mike did say in the liner notes to the FII Demos that it would appear in future setlists, but at least according to his archives, it never did.

It was Portnoy's idea to have a song they only played once. Why? Who knows. They played it twice, but that was it.

The lyrics are fictional.

I believe wanted to create a fan favourite that never gets played. I wouldn't do that in a band myself because that feels like a forced image.

Also didn't they already have a fan favorite that wasn't played in Space-Dye Vest? Like it wasn't like they hadn't had that happen to them as a band, they already had a song that pretty much exactly fit that type.

Zook

Yeah but it was never a "ok this it the song we're only playing once, or never" thing. They felt it was Moore's song and didn't want to play it. Plus Portnoy didn't like it. There was never a plan or agenda.

TheAtliator

I know of two Disappear performances, but I didn't know those were the only two.. Interesting. Hope they play it live again at some point.. But I'm not sure why I would hope that considering I'd be depressed at a Dream Theater concert..

And why the hell would you purposely want to make a fan favorite that doesn't get played live??  Although making a song that only get's performed ONCE is kind of a cool idea.. in theory at least, but I don't know if it's a great thing to actually do.

SPACE DYE VEST YEAHGHHHHH!!!!!

I GOTTA SEE THEM LIVE IF THEY PLAY THAT.

Daso

I feel like John is stressing on that "anniversary material" being SFaM because cyberdrummer asked him about having something special done for the album's 15th anniversary. I hope he thought "hell, lets take a look at when we released albums to commemorate their anniversaries" so that Awake also gets the nod on the next tour.

1neeto

Hell's Kitchen, PLEASE!

They should play DT12 in its entirety. Maybe some Awake sogs like CIAW because I wanna hear Mangini hit on a cowbell LOL!
