Thought my jaw was about to hit the floor when I saw this tiny, yet massive, bit of news.  :omg:

And that week can't get any better now. Full album stream on Monday and GTA V on Wednesday, including some great stuff later on too..  :hefdaddy

GTA V and the new consoles are coming out next week?!!?!? OMG I thought they weren't coming out until Christmas. Or wait...GTA V IS for PS4 and XBox One isn't it??

Nope, GTA V is only coming for PS3/Xbox 360 currently. There might be a version of it for PS4 and Xbox One, but that one won't be out until next year. And the new consoles arrives in November.  ;)

RMGadelha

And then PC gamers like me will wait 6 months or more for the PC version :S

Speaking about chips... I was planning on eat some chips today, but I'll save them for monday along with a good soda or juice to have a little DT listening ritual :lol

I'm going to wait until the album comes out. Then turn off the lights, put on the headphones, pour myself a glass of red wine and enjoy every second of it :)

Change the drink to a lovely aged tequila, and I'll be doing much the same.. :-)

wolfking

I'll pass and wait until the cd is in my hands.

Zook

I was waiting for this to happen. Seems to be the norm these days.

I wonder if this hurts first week sales though.

Usually I like to listen to what Im gonna buy first.

If the album is good/great/awesome/worth having I'll usually go and buy it

I think it likely increases them. The loyal fan base (like those of us here at DTF) will buy it regardless, and those who would just download a leak or other illegal copy don't really matter (since they wouldn't have bought the album regardless), and I imagine only the ones that already don't care for Dream Theater that much will make the decision not to buy based off of the stream.

What the stream does provide is a way for the non-fan to legally listen to music they otherwise would t have wasted time on, and may produce new fans and purchasers of the album.

jonnybaxy

I don't like this, I don't want to listen but I don't want to be missing out. Most people will just illegally download it.. It can't help sales, anyone who wants it, already pre-ordered. DT fans are OCD about anything they can get their hands on and don't have many part time fans so I don't see the point... I'd prefer snippets to keep the teasing up till release date.

When ADTOE was streaming on the Roadrunner site, I wasn't able to listen because the traffic made it impossible.  If the full album streams on a site with more resources, though (as was the case with TEI and AFTR), like Rolling Stone or something, then we won't have to worry about that.

So people with jobs are screwed..?

Unless I missed something and the stream is only up for a few hours, I don't think your shift on Monday could possibly be long enough that you miss the entire streaming period.

blackngold29

Streaming it this way at least gives the band the opportunity to "leak" it in high quality, or at least higher quality than would come from an actual leak. They are at least in full control this way.

I would guess I speak for most here when I say it won't affect my purchase of the album, because most people will go for the 'Deluxe edition' that also includes the DVD.

Tom Bombadil

So do you need a FB to listen to it, cause I might have to get one if so.

Probably not, but even if you did, making a Facebook account takes all of two minutes, so I think you'll be ok.

Seeing as how every other RR release is on Soundcloud, no.

Not in all cases. DT is my favorite band and I have not pre-oreder the album, I'll go to my closest music store and buy it on the 24th ;) But you certainly have a point in the beginning. I don't know whether I should listen to it or not because it is not the final product, if you will, but a lower quality (not incomplete, though) version of it.

Why do you all moan about the sound quality? All I ever see on this forum about the album is complaints about that! What really matters is the music. The sound is good enough. It's not like you get crackles or you can't hear the overall picture.

The sound is "good enough" for YOU. Obviously, the reason people are moaning about the sound quality is because people honestly find it to be poor, and NOT "good enough" as it is for you.

ProAlbino

I just got off the phone with Jordan. I asked him if it was going to stream on soundcloud or iTunes. He told me he didn't know the specifics, but he's heard Rolling Stone was going to stream it.

I'm going to get it at a record store because that's how I like buying discs (while I can get other albums I have my eye on too). Why generalize like that?

Well I'll be damned! I had no idea they were releasing it for 360 and PS3. Thx for the info. I don't know if I've ever seen a sicker looking game based on the previews. It looks absolutely limitless!

FourthHorseman

Why are so many new bands (or their record companies) streaming their album before it comes out? Is it a marketing strategy, or do they just think that it would leak anyway?

Marketing strategy I guess, but I'm not a specialist at all. Agree with some of the guys here that it won't affect sales. Btw, deciding you won't buy a DT album because you didn't like it on the first 3 or 4 listens would be strange. When I first listened to FII, I thought to bring it back ; now, after so many listens, it's top 5 for me. Who would have guessed?
I'm working late on Monday, but I guess I will listen to the stream, at least once. And then wait for the release (which, by the way, should come on Saturday 21st in my local store! Yeepee!!!).

Look forward to listening Monday night after work.

I'm so lucky I will have the opportunity to listen to it at work and really can't wait further. This is probably the highest peak of hype I'm getting since Octavarium and I cried when I heard the title-track. I will probably be fooled for this ;D

How do you figure? I could potentially leak it in lossless format if I was a bastard, which is 100% equal to what is on the cd. I could even leak the DVD-Audio format, which is 96khz at 24bit in 5.1 channels. The stream is not going to be close to that high quality :P

matte.braso

please send me the 5.1 mix! I swear I'll buy when it comes out :P

I'm joking obviously ;)

I guess it will be a soundcloud stream with quality like the two songs they released, which makes me think if i'll hear it.
The quality was really bad, but i'm not sure i can keep myself from listening to it.
