The Trooper

:metal just finished listening, on my 2nd now.

DT_Aus

Very Beneath The Surface (JR solo mostly). I like it but it's not as powerful and soaring as it probably could be

nikatapi

cyberdrummer

I reckon it'll be pretty damn good live.

Filipe_metalhead

Oh My God! This is awesome in one way terrible in another...

Awesome that is having a huge sucess already and it's only singles. Terrible that the server went down... There must billions of people listening to it now!

illusionist

James shines on this one.Very melodic too.Wooohooooooo.YES!!!!

Bolsters

dat intro. Love it. The distorted guitar when it comes in detracts though IMO, it's too upfront and aggressive for this kind of song. I think the parts without that are much stronger.

Not a bad little song, I like it, and I immediately like it more than The Enemy Within. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad disappointed at the same time. :|

DAT MYUNG!!!!!! :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

Yeah, nice! Sounds like nod to Squire-style prog bass. Even using a pick, maybe?

DT_Aus

What the heck is that arpegiated intro reminiscent of? I just can't put my finger on it!

EDIT: Prelude To Disaster by Shadow's Fall

atmyne

wow... legitimate I&W vibes in there.... very nice track.

RoeDent

You can really hear the bass during the keyboard solo. Lovely song! As it's the last-but-one track, it's a nice relatively soft track ahead of the epic.

BlobVanDam

I didn't like it much. Reminded me a bit of BTS too.

aXygnus

That bass under the moog solo. HNNNNNNNNNNNNNG.

The only grip I have with it is that the chorus is somewhat cheesy.

N4Player

You definitely hear the BTS references at least from Jordan, but nothing about this tune really stands out. Kind of bland after 2 listens. TEI had me hitting repeat but this one doesn't. Maybe in the context of the whole album it will work better. Grateful for the extra tune nonetheless.

Filipe_metalhead

It reminds Surrounded at one point...

DarkLord_Lalinc

Super nice track, I liked it lots. I still can't swallow the mix/mastering though, way too loud for the song. This one could have benefitted from having some more dynamics, but nevertheless this is a great one.

Beneath the Surface?

mocool13

Pretty cool, but first listens aren't indicative of how good I find a song to be.

Some BTS vibe, also I&W vibe before the distorted guitars come in

borzo

better than the first single... no doubt about that.

Lolzeez

I made myself a sandwich and got some soda to enjoy this. This rules.

emtee

Love the intro. Very heartfelt. Love the new key solo sound. Very fresh. Does harken to an I&W feel. Drums seem a little
busy for this type of song but oh well. Solid song. Not great but solid.

PixelDream

Song's alright. Sounds very commercial - REALLY not my thing, but I can understand.

Is it just me or does the snare sound laughably bad in this track?

jdprsaga

I gotta say it's very reminiscent of old dream theater and the part with the parts with the second voice on the verse/bridge sounds kinda coheed and cambria.. but it's still not making it for me, But it might grow on me as surrounded did.

Myung, specially the base line in the keyboard solo sounds awesome. very old DT.

T-ski

please tell me the drums aren't triggered on every frickin' song.

kind of a boring song.

ronrule

That last chorus with the backing vocal soloing in the right channel!

RoeDent

I'd say it's more like This is the Life than Beneath the Surface. I know the keyboard sound puts one in mind of the latter, but the heavier guitar (compared to BtS) puts me more in mind of TITL.

mikeyd23

I liked it upon first listen, I'll give it a few more spins and see how it sits with me.  First impressions are that JLB, JR, and JMX all sound fantastic on the track!

eviljust

That BTS solo patch haven't still clicked on me but the verses are great. The chorus not that memorable, but pretty neat though.
So glad to hear some JMX and JR together in here! :)

Marion Crane

Absolutely love it.  Especially Geddy Lee bass tone under the lead section.  Best "ballad" they've done in years

Ad134

I really like how... I don't know... "young" the song sounds. It's so uplifting and focused. The first half of the song also gives me vibes of Different Strings by Rush, which I know DT has covered live before.

Also, dat bass during the moog solo.

DP_Gumby

Third listen now, September 24 is Christmas for me in 2013.
