Jason is a fantastic guitarist. He deserves much better than to be in that  :censored band "Chelsea Grin". Here's another fantastic solo of his:

Jason has left/kicked out of many bands in just a few years, I seem to think it's him rather than the bands he's in.

ehh the BOO split up was a little weird. apparently jason didn't like partying/drugs as much as the rest of the band. they felt he was too much of a dad. so i guess he was too mature

That's a very juvenile request, sorry. It's the classic argument that only world-class figure skaters can become competition judges. Which is of course bogus.
I'm with you, I passionately hate it when somebody tries to play the "if you can't do it better don't criticize" bullcrap card.

I enjoyed the guy's playing and tone, warts and all.

Oh no doubt he's a nightmare to work with. I'm just saying it would be nice to hear his work in a better band.

I think the drugs in question was pot.. So I'd feel annoyed if he railed on me if I used(I don't). Especially for such a vanilla "drug".
I'd also fall in the camp that Born of Osiris are a great band, their earlier albums just had some baaaaaad production.

His skill is very impressive, damn. But man, his attack makes me a sad panda. You know you have a problem if the "plonk" of the string is louder than the regular guitar sound.

This just shows how complex JP's playing is, insane!!!  :metal

I think this guy too nailed It (all the song) in a (really) short Time .

I agree, and I think might be holding him back in terms of flow and fluidity.

i think its only a problem in situations like this. doesn't really come through like that on records

That's the point though. I can make myself sound like a guitar god on a record and have no chance of duplicating it live. The issue isn't the presence of the attack sound; it points to a fundamentally "poor" habit, no different than a flaring pinkie finger that even JP has admitted to.

pretty solid live. should've included record and live in my original post

I'm not disputing that he's a great guitarist, only that his heavy right hand attack is limiting his potential. Were he to adopt more efficient right hand mechanics, he'd be even better. Just opining on a guitarist as a guitarist/musician myself.  :)

Amazing playing abilities all-around within this thread. Certainly better than what I could even dream to be able to do on the guitar.

If memory serves me correctly, JP taps sections of the LNF unison solo (as seen live in Atlanta on their tour).
