Her vacant eyes.... Black holes.....Am I Lucy Liu?
This is the best.  Too bad it's the wrong album.

I didn't even realise that we were just doing that album, as most people weren't, but I see how it is, just because I won, you have to change the rules  :rollin

How do we know the incorrect trig of the hanging balls wasn't done on purpose to stir the fanbase, or perhaps Hugh Syme views flaws as the true meaning of creativity rather than perfection?

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

I would be less surprised to find out that it was originally correct, but that he was then told to move it in so it looked 'right'.

More like someone doesn't get it... Last time I checked, "liu" and "dream" do not rhyme...

What a Liuser :neverusethis:

Liu doesn't rhyme with Fatal either?

Big Hath

what if we're all wrong and the ball was pulled back at an angle away from us to compensate for the shorter length?  Maybe it's all an optical illusion.

Orbert

(then it would have a smaller perceived diameter, which it does not)

Big Hath

unless the ball on the right is bigger

:neverusethis:

Lucien

Or maybe Hugh just meant it to be that way.

Dear God in heaven, not this again.

Seriously, guys. Lighten up. If your enjoyment of this album is impacted at all by whatever the blue hell you think is wrong with the cover, SEEK HELP.  :lol

Who gives a fuck.

^ This. I understand where people are coming from complaining about it and pointing it out. I really do. And yes they are correct I suppose. But in reality, way to be a cliche prog fans. Way to be.
I always took pride in the DT community finding all sorts of hidden stuff everywhere. Nitpicking the heck out of album covers is still way better than being ordinary and boring.

Nick

Syme has been lazily ruining art for DT and Rush for too long now, I really wish both bands would drop him.

And let me just say that he *used* to be an absolutely stunning choice for album art, just not so much in the last decade.

Agreed 50 percent. I really don't think he was ever that good. He's had a couple of hits obviously but only the biggest of Rush nuts are anything other than unsettled by a man's bare ass on the cover of the album they're buying.

I'm more concerned that the two hands on the inside of the booklet for Train of Thought is the same stock photo used in the beginning of that old show The Outer Limits. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dzxGlcErUo
at 23 seconds and if i recall there are other hands holding a heart at 16 seconds in the booklet as well.

Wow. Eyes, hands, tunnels of stock photos, clocks... are you sure Syme didn't create that intro?

GasparXR

Hugh Syme didn't do the art for Train of Thought. It was Jerry Uelsmann.

lyfeternl

I know it isn't Hugh's work when I enjoy the cover art.... :neverusethis:

El JoNNo

huh whadda'ya know
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Uelsmann
QuoteHis photographs can be seen in the opening credits of the television series The Outer Limits (1995), and the illustrated edition of Stephen King's Salem's Lot. In addition, his artwork is featured in the progressive metal band Dream Theater's seventh studio album Train of Thought (2003).

robwebster

Yeah, Jerry's a... photographer, I think? He creates his own art, he's got a very different style to Hugh Syme's digital collages.
