Well, I figured I may give the solo itself a shot at a thread?

Anyone think this solo is ace? I generally do not have one fav JP solo, but I find it hard to recognize a more tasteful solo than this one of his. And without the solo, I would honestly not care about the song; it's that good to me.

Dublagent66

Oh yeah!  Dat solo.  Best part of the song.   :tup

ytserush

I love the whole song.

It's top 3 on this album along with Prophets of War and Constant Motion.

DebraKadabra

Underrated solo from a HIGHLY underrated song. :metal

The solo is downright tasty. The song would be fantastic too, if it were cut down a bit. It doesn't have enough variety to warrant being over 10 minutes. I have to check the song length every time I mention that, because it just doesn't not feel like it could possibly be stretched out that long.

But back to the thread, the solo is amazing. I love JP's slower solos. He's got such style.

mellotron_scratch

I feel it's one of JP's most tasteful solos. It's the best part of the song imo, apart from the samples of Mike's friends talking.

JRuivo

One of my favourite JP solos of all time (along with LITS and Razor's Edge - interestingly enough, also slow and emotional). I love the way he builds the melodies over those unorthodox chord progressions, and aw gawd dat tone.

JPX

Sorry but it's an Opeth clone solo in a terrible, terrible DT song.

And he has a bunch of "tasteful" solo's that are 100x better.

:\  It's amazing that some people still don't get what an APPRECIATION thread is. :tdwn :tdwn

Perpetual Change

I certainly appreciate the solo, but I can't help but add it's also too little, too late.

This.  Yeah, JPX, you've gotten several recent warnings and just do not seem to care.  There are many on this forum whose example you could look to about how to (1) voice criticisms constructively, and/or (2) when you have a criticism, bite your tongue and not troll an appreciation thread.  Since you have disregarded prior warnings, you'll have to take your act somewhere else.  Goodbye.  :bosk1:

Great solo. Almost as powerful as the Razor's Edge solo, Under A Glass Moon solo, or The Best of Times solo. After the solo, the song drags on a little, but I've never really complained about Repentence's length.

It's up there with The Lines In The Sand Solo, Razor's Edge, The Best Of Times & As I Am for all time JP solos.

Scorpion

Yeah, definitely one of his best solos. Which reminds me... has anyone ever done a list of his/her favourite DT solos? I mean, not all can be taken seperately from the song for full enjoyment, but still. It would be an interesting thread.

Please name the Opeth solos... I have no idea? I have Opeth's whole catalog and never noticed a minute long solo with JP's phrasing.

Well... that's just, like, your opinion, man. :(
