..That would probably make more sense to me if I actually knew the lyrics to UAGM. :lol

Interesting topic. What's the leading theory nowadays? The giant impact event?
Yes, but there are some counterarguments still. Some studies show that the planetary body responsible for impact had to be the size of Mars or even three times that, which is of course ridiculous as the largest asteroid known to man is about 1000 km I believe. Furthermore, there is some debate on the actual chemical composition of the Moon; almost every paper/article states a different percentage of terrestrial material in the Moon. Still gotta do some research though, but it only has to be 4 pages or longer and we've got until Wednesday. Still plan to finish it tomorrow or Sunday though.

Interesting fact: the most interesting theory IMO (but probably not the most plausible) refers back to Darwin's theory on the Moon, which is that it parted from Earth during a fission when the Earth was still molten. However, this would require a far greater orbital velocity of the Earth than we now have and it probably doesn't explain the lack of iron in the Moon (its iron core is only about 3% of its mass I believe). The interesting theory I was talking about was only published recently and argues that a huge nuclear explosion in the Earth could've caused this fission, instead of the rapidly spinning Earth.

A glass moon? :neverusethis:
No, a cheese one.

wasteland

Forgive me if I am a bit skeptical about the gian nuclear explosion :D

As for Darwin's theory, the lack of iron probably means that the detatchement happened once the Earth had already at least partially solidified and the iron sunk into the core, there to remain virtually untouched by a superficel ejection of material, however conspicuous. But under these circumstances I can't see the Moon detatching (by the time Earth should have become a rigid body already).

Onno

I am sceptical too, don't worry  :lol I still have to read the whole article on that one though.
Darwin's theory has had some following up till the '80s, as it was pretty much the only theory until then. In 1984 the giant impact theory became the mainstream one, I believe.

Your argument about the detachment is true, but the Moon detaching is a bit strange and not very likely. I still don't really know which theory I find the most likely, I still need some more info on the composition of the Moon and the theories themselves.

This. I can't for the life of me remember them.

wasteland

Learn them. They are among the most beautiful ones. They feel especially special when you are walking at night under a very thin but abundant rain.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

Eh, I've read them before. They don't really do much for me.

wasteland

Anyway, late night working and Mullmuzzlin'  ;)

Onno

Anyway, late night researching the lunar formation and Ghostin'... Peeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaceeee to youuuu

So, apparently the forum has a 20,000 character limit for posts.

?

Take that, Twitter!

How did you find out about that limit?

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I've been typing up my top 50 list, and I've been doing it with all the code already in there (like [b ] etc.), and I was using the preview function to make sure all of the coding was correct. (it wasn't, by the way. There were more than a few mistakes).

Anyway, it showed me the preview, but it said I couldn't post it because it surpassed the forum's limit. So, I learned something today. :D

?

I hadn't heard about the limit before, but then again I've never had to type 20,000-character posts :lol

?

Got a new MP3 player... The model I had wasn't available any longer, but I bought a new player and the price was reduced thanks to the guarantee for the old one.

Nice, I always use my phone for listening to music. A 32 GB SD card is enough for me.

Early bird on Saturday, Hef! How come?  :o
Just woke up.  Never fails, on a Saturday, which is the one day a week I can normally sleep as late as I want, I invariably wake up really early.

It works out, everyone else sleeps late so I get the place to myself for a few hours.  :metal

If I listened to music on my phone I'd have to recharge it all the time :P

Because of that I have to recharge mine about two times a day :lol

Proof-reading the first chapter of my thesis. Isn't there an emoticon that's supposed to show someone drowning in sheets of paper?  :lol

I don't know, but good luck with that  :lol I'll probably be starting my bachelor thesis in April.

But you are still a little more than a toddler!!  :omg: \jk

:lol In a month I'll be twenty, and I'll be one of the few who actually finish their bachelor in 3 years.

wasteland

Assuming your bachelor is the equivalent to our First Level Degree, do you start your bachelor at age 17 in the Eversinking Lands? :o

*a Chroma Key reference you wouldn't get* :lol

I tested the MP3 player and it's working well. The music sounds different on the new headphones, but I'll probably get used to that. The player also supports FLAC, so maybe even Steven Wilson could approve of it :D

@wasteland:
I could use such an emoticon, too... About to finish my bachelor thesis.

@Onno:
Good luck, I thought so as well. Now 2 ECTS credit points are missing for the bachelor's degree...  :|
But I can start the master course anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

I probably wouldn't get it, no. I need to listen to CK some more still.

Only 2... That's too bad. All my courses are 7.5 ECTS each, but I only have two courses per quarter.

Hey guys, watching the Score concert.  This show is kicking butt, very nicely.

I'm currently at the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence part of the show.  My goodness, how on Earth do they prepare themselves for tackling this task of playing this track live?

Yes, I did. I was still 17 when I started my bachelor in September 2011 but I turned 18 in October. It's not really usual though, but I'm just young. Most people start at 18 and turn 19 in their first bachelor year.

Well, it's 42 minutes of music.  It's no different than learning 42 minutes worth of any other music they would learn, it just all runs together.

Honestly, preparing for something like that is probably old hat for them.

I'm looking for that french wiki listing all DT releases, including very rare stuff such as the test pressing of the '86 demo tape... I thought I bookmarked it, but apparently I didn't.
Anyone?
