So, the options turned out to be more than I envisioned, so you are allowed to cast three votes, which you will be able to change whenever you can.

Have fun :)

My pics:

- Eve Sample: just beautiful, insanely beautifun and fitting the music insanely well. #1
- Ivory Box Scene. Do I have to add anything?
- I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE HONOR OF GOD MARY JANE. Iconic, anthemic. I heard 5000 men yelling their lungs out to it in Milan.

Very honorable mentions to: Don't Look Past Me, Take The Time, This Is Not Reality.

robwebster

I went for Glory Glory, Great Debate, and I don't like samples. Which sounds like I'm taking the piss, but it's true - the number of samples I quite like are very few, the vast majority I find kind of annoying.

The other song where it really works, for me, is Honor Thy Father. A song like Don't Look Past Me, the samples are the only thing keeping it from being perfect.

I went with Glory, Glory and I don't like samples. :lol There are a couple others I kind of like, but I mostly would prefer they not be there.

TheAtliator

I love all of them like a part of the song, they are one piece of the music. I do have a couple standouts though. I chose "6:00 on a christmas morning" and "This is not reality" since I think they blend so well with the rest of the song and are so essential. And I was gonna say you're forgetting Honor Thy Father

Scorpion

Eve, ITNOG and ACOS were my choices, all pretty easy decisions for me. Honourable mention to the SDV ones.

Word! In the Name of God choir is part of the music, and the Great Debate sets the scene, really fits the song, helps the buildup, but so many of the samples - particularly in the old days - just sound chucked in.

I can't imagine 6:00 without the samples, they've become almost iconic, but rapping grandma is nonetheless really, properly annoying.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I voted for the one in Take The Time (I think). Most samples just kind of bug me.

RuRoRul

No option for any from Honor Thy Father? (Possibly the song with the most samples). That would probably be one of my top picks if it was there. "When your own flesh and blood renounces you, you have no choice but to renounce them."

Not a big fan of them in general though. I hate the ones in 6:00.

Sycsa

"I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE HONOR OF GOD MARY JANE" - for above mentioned reasons.
"Gather-ye rosebods while ye may" - for quite some time I thought this was JP's voice, even though I saw the movie multiple times.

TheGreatPretender

I don't ever recall hearing any samples in Eve.. Am I on crack?

Just a tad uninformed. They played the song once with the samples, in New York City, 1993 March 4th. The performance is quite famous and available on an official Ytse Jam bootleg.  :tup

theseoafs

Is the ITNOG outro technically a sample?

Cool Chris

Well, looking at this list shows me that Kevin's samples sure collectively blow.

Am I not seeing the ones rom HTF? I guess I would go for those. Most of them I would rather didn't exist.  I never thought DT handled them very well.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

What about THE GODDAMN REGRETS?

If you had put that one I would have chosen it, easily among my favorite samples, really turns that part from boring to amazing.

But now that it's not there I chose Ivory Box (Really fills the atmosphere of SDV), So he came himself in weakness (Why did they even leave this out of the studio version?), and Glory Glory (For some reason this specific part of the song pops up in my mind whenever I'm playing Bioshock Infinite these days, really fits into the song)

Ivory box is my all time fav. Followed by Rosebuds and Houson

Oh. Yeah, I just listen to the studio version from Cleaning Out The Closet. No samples for me, thanks.

namgalsipsclar

I went for Ivory Box.
I think I may have made a severe oversight, because I swear I don't remember samples in ITNOG......

ColdFireYYZ

Ivory Box.

I really like the use of samples in music, as long as it's done well. DT's are generally very well placed, IMO.

DebraKadabra

The Great Debate (just because the samples, beginning and end, weave perfectly into the content)

Glory Glory (I've actually never really noticed that one, but godly song is GODLY)

THIS IS NOT REALITY (2nd favorite, after Honor Thy Father - REALLY powerful part of the song, and more often than not makes me cry just because it's so damn powerful)
Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

Elite

1. SIX O'CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING
2. Great Debate intro
3. Gather ye rosebuds

1.Take The Time
2.Ivory Box
3.The Great Debate

BlobVanDam

I went with-
ITNOG - It's godly, if you'll excuse the pun.
Take The Time - although I prefer the intro samples to the Cinema Paradiso one.
The Mirror - a great combination of the creepy music and the samples

I would have voted for HTF too, but it's not in there for some reason. I like the Goodnight Kiss stuff too. My vote for worst use of samples ever would be the entire intro to 6:00. Nails on a chalkboard.

adastra

Ivory box is the best!
I remember watching "A Room With A View" for the first time.. I had goosebumps when Julian said those lines :3

SomeoneLikeHim

Ivory box
Gather ye rosebuds
THIS IS NOT REALITY

Ruba

Either "Gather ye rosebuds" or "This is not reality", but went with latter. Sooo beautiful moment.

Wasn't it read in the studio by some rapper who was recording there at the same time?

?

1. Ivory box (the best use of samples in any song by anyone)
2. Rosebuds (fits the song perfectly)
3. This is not reality (same)

I already did it. :lol

Oh, so you did! :lol You even mentioned HTF too. I guess great minds think alike.

"Gather-ye rosebods while ye may" from Dead Poet Society (ACOS)
The Great Debate Intro (and outro, duh!)
"In Houston They Say That?" Sequence (SDV) (assuming that's Conan O'Brien's voice)

+a bunch! Seriously, a big oversight! Is it because this song is a black sheep? The samples really aid the section they are in, and really gets the emotions MP went for across like a hammer in the face.

Out of what was available, ACOS.

ariich

Ivory Box, Rosebuds, and Great Debate.

I mostly like DT's use of samples, but those are the three that I find most impactful in terms of content and placement.

I didn't include anything from HTF because in all honesty I havn't listen to the song in almost two year, and I would have had some difficulty to know which were "notable" and worth a place there. I guess I should put "GODDAMN REGRET" in the list. Any other options I should add?
