Who composed the intro to Learning to Live?

Just like all of you I'm getting absolutely psyched for DT'13! I think this one will be special.

As for my question, do any of you know who wrote the keyboard intro to Learning to Live? Now, I know it's played by Kevin Moore. But it is also recapitulated later on guitar by JP. And since it's essentially the main LtL motif, and also an arpeggiation of chords that JP plays throughout , I'm curious if JP didn't "write the notes" to the very beginning of Learning to Live, even though the line is played by KM.

Well, he wrote DT'13, so maybe he can be excused, he said the truth, after all ;)

As for the subject, I wish I knew! I feel there is some KM there in the creative phase as well as in the actual performance.

I would like to know the same about the outro. It's a great enigma for me.

This is all conjecture - but if DT wrote the body of the song first, then used a motif from that for the intro, then JP  probably wrote it.

The intro to this song is the only blemish on its magnificence. It's just so....bland. Everything from the verse onwards is pure bliss, and this may very well have been my favourite DT song if the intro was better.

Really? I absolutely love the intro; that riff is one of my favorite parts of the song. It's just so cool-sounding and such a great use of odd meter.

I would be more interested in who the hell wrote THAT OUTRO, since this part wasn't originally in I&W Demos.  :hefdaddy

As I said earlier this year, that would be my first question to JP or JM should I ever meet them.

Which part of the outro? Is it the guitar lead or the "choir"?

Estiui

Almost everything that sounds in there, it's all awesome. But specially the lead guitar, which is as simple as amazing.

It sounds like something that's more likely to be composed on a keyboard, but that's just a complete guess. It also seems an unusual way to write a riff on guitar but that doesn't really mean much considering Petrucci's writing prowess.

I wrote it in my mother's uterus.

But seriously? Probably KM or JP.

I bet the intro is Kevin's... The melody just sounds like something a keyboardist would come up with.

I'm not sure. The original ending motif had a very strong KM vibe (10:00 in the Instrumental Learning To Live demo - not the James one), but the ensuing guitar solo, that is still played in live outros, feels JP instead. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual studio ending was a collaboration between the two of them, rather than a solitary effort.
