It's a great concert outro, true! Too bad the Budokan solo was so underwhelming comparing to the others played that tour...

ZKX-2099

Finally Free from Live Scenes.

The Presence of Frenemies

The best ending is the version of Pull Me Under that doesn't suddenly cut off.

-Scarred keyboards
-Learning to live bass dominated outro
-The Count of Tuscany ("could this be the end..?")
-A Change of Seasons: the crimson sunset
-Trial of Tears "the Wasteland"
-In the Name of God ("religious beliefs, fanatic obsessions")
-Octavarium's "Razor's Edge"
-The Glass Prison ("way off in the distance I saw a door")
All of these all over my brain. Razor's Edge is the weak one here though.
Same.

EDIT: I forgot Breaking All Illusions

...and i would add Breaking All Illusions

I'll second that, as the song concludes I get the feeling you get when the roller coaster ride is over and you are pulling back into the loading area.

And there is nothing not epic about the end of the Razor's Edge solo off Octavarium...nothing.

KevShmev

Scarred.  That outro is a big reason why Scarred is their best song ever. :hat

I disagree. One of the most boring and overrated DT solos I can imagine.

I cannot agree with that; it is a very nice solo.  Not even close to one of JP's best, but still very nice.

Scorpion

Maybe that's a bit harsh - it is pleasant enough to listen to, I'll give you that - but it doesn't go anywhere. And no, I can enjoy solos that aren't all out shredding (LITS, for instance), but Razor's Edge is just so samey throughout with nearly nothing changing with each repetition of that main melody.

chwik

SDOIT - Losing time Grand Finale. Fantastic "song" and a majestic ending.

Marion Crane

Tuscany.  No question.

Not his fastest, not his most technical, but maybe the most "chill inducing".  Wraps up an epic masterpiece in the way it should be done.  Soaring and grand and leaves you feeling you just experienced some amazing event.  Emotional with a note of completeness and finality that says (pardon the plagiarism) "It is finished".

nicmos

Don't understand how more people aren't mentioning Finally Free.

Octavarium gets my vote too.

And actually sort of shocked that a couple people mentioned This Dying Soul unironically.

Ruba

The heartfelt dark keyboard driven Scarred.

Rocking Innocence Faded.

Crushing The Mirror and the great second guitar solo of Lie.

Too beautiful Space-Dye Vest.

Metropolis pt.1: The Miracle and the Sleeper. Period.

The lengthy, yet beautiful Repentance.

Experimental Misunderstood.

And the best way to close this post is Learning to Live, in order it might be the best.

King Postwhore

Razor's edge has one of JP's most emptional solo's to date.  That's what makes that moment great.  The last note emotes so much passion it makes the end chilling.  You don't have to play a billion notes to make it epic.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

jsem

Razor's Edge is severely overrated.

LTL has the best outro, followed by Trial of Tears. TCOT at third place.

Progmetty

This Dying Soul is pretty killer.

54_diplomats

Crimson Sunset - Probably my favorite outro. The whole band kicks into high gear, love the lyrics and resolution to the song and Labrie sounds fantastic. I never stop getting chills at the 21:08 mark and the "I sit down with my son..." is just breathtaking.

The Count of Tuscany - Was my favorite for a long time and still is pretty good. The guitar and vocals... top notch.

Learning to Live - Simply phenomenal and probably the best album closer DT has.

Space Dye Vest - It feels so hopeless and depressing, but I love every second of it.

SDOIT: Losing Time - Labrie seems like he's singing for dear life here, he sounds absolutely amazing and the keys here are beautiful.

Metropolis pt.1: The Miracle and the Sleeper - Not much for me to say here without sounding redundant. Extremely atmospheric, soaring vocals, etc. "There must be the third and last dance..."

RaiseTheKnife

Status Seeker remix -----  the repeat and fade of the last chord is as emblematic of 1989 as the freeze frame high five ending of buddy movies.

ReaperKK

TMOLS, the best part of the whole song

Yup.

Damn, I forgot ACOS. That outro is epic.

Top10:
- In The Name Of God
- Scarred
- Stream of Consciousness
- Endless Sacrifice
- These Walls
- ACOS
- TCOT
- Innocence Faded
- As I Am
- Forsaken

Just noticed that Train Of Thought has really good outros IMO. I think I like epic outros (and balls)..  ;)

These are a few usually lesser-appreciated ones that are quite dear to me, and I have to throw in a mention for that guitar solo in Goodnight Kiss. Sweet Jesustrucci have you no mercy.

I have always said that the ending solo of GK is by far the best moment in the second disc of SDOIT... People call me crazy  ::)

Close... the start of TTTSTA beats it.

The transitions to About To Crash (Reprise) and Solitary Shell beat both of that.

AND! Happy 3kth post, Mili :)

?

3000 posts in 9 months? It took me over 3 years to reach that limit! :lol

And if we talk about the best moments of 6D disc 2, War Inside My Head = :2metal: and the ending of LT/GF is just epic (too bad 99% of the suite isn't nearly as awesome)

I've been here longer and only have 1300+ :lol

The ending solo of GK is indeed awesome. But I like the ending solo + outro of ATC better.

My buddy Mike and I have this debate all the time. He's for Octavarium, and I think I'm for The Count of Tuscany... But my top three would be TCOT, 8VM, and BAI.
My latest concept album "IV: Timber" IS OUT NOW!
