I find it to be very average. It's nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. The outro guitar bit is cool, but the rest reminds me of a '90s telemovie. :dunno:

but like the morning star, which is thy emblem,
bright and musical, breathing purity,
telling of heaven and infusing peace."

I'd walk on shards of broken glass to come to the imaginary venue where DT would play Eve again (and SDV for the first time).

03 – Eve – The Silent Man (single)
If there was ever a Dream Theater song that could be called "beautiful", this is it, without doubt. I once played this to my music teacher and he compared it with works of Alban Berg, where every note is exactly where it should be, and any change would only make the song worse. I don't really know Alban Berg's music that well, but I agree with this assessment on Eve one hundred percent.

Or, at least, did until I heard the '93 live version, which introduced samples to the song. I hadn't actually thought that that was possible, but it was even better. The samples still send shivers down my spine whenever I hear them, giving the whole song a new atmosphere against which the original one pales in my opinion.

If anyone has not yet heard this song, do it now. I don't know anyone who has done so and doesn't like the song. And for good reason, because it really is one of DT's best.

"In the dark night,
across the bleak wilderness,
guide us on to our lord Jesus,
guide us home."

Wow...a surprise, but a pleasant surprise!

I would go to that concert even though the only other song on the 25-pieces setlist were Constant Motion.

Me too. The only question is, would we cry of pain or joy? :lol

Surprising choice! I don't think it's nearly that good, but it's pretty decent in my book. :tup

02 – A Change of Seasons – A Change of Seasons
If I had written this list four months ago, this would have sat at number one pretty comfortably. And while it has since been dethroned, that is no way a knock on the quality of this song. From start to finish, all twenty-three minutes of this song are an emotional journey that doesn't let up. It contains Portnoy's best lyrics, hands down, and some great performances by every member of the band. Special props go to the Another World section, which is probably one of the best four minutes that Dream Theater have ever written and the epic, epic outro that is The Crimson Sunset. Moving, emotional and all-around awesome.

Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite

Eve and A Change of Seasons are awesome!

?

3 of the 7 people who have commented on ACOS think it's overrated? :\

Prog Snob

It's not overrated. As a matter of fact, they need to start interspersing it in the set list again I think.   :D

01 – Trial of Tears – Falling Into Infinity
Honestly, what else was it gonna be? This is Dream Theater at their peak. Every member shines here, be it Myung's creative basslines, Petrucci's subdued playing that gives way to the absolute craziness of the guitar solo, Derek's layering of keys and his best keyboard solo he ever played with the band, Portnoy's song-oriented and tasteful drumming or LaBrie's vocals that are delivered with such emotion, there isn't a weak spot to be found anywhere on this song. Also, it features what are probably John Myung's best lyrics that he has ever written. Perfect song.

Nekov

Wasn't expecting that in the top spot. It is a really good song but not number one if you ask me.

Can you post a recap of your list?

If you don't care whether a song wouldn't make someone's top 50, then why would you care about anyone's lists and what does make their top 50? Do you just want everyone to agree on everything and move on? ???
